IIIT Bangalore provides students with a unique blend of academic excellence, personal growth, and vibrant campus experiences.

  • Hostels: IIIT Bangalore has three awesome hostels - Bhaskara, Lilavati, and Visvesvaraya. Bhaskara is where the boys reside, and it's got triple-sharing rooms for the first two years and sweet single occupancy rooms from the fourth year onwards. Lilavati is the place for the girls, offering 260 rooms with top-notch security and daily housekeeping. Additionally, there's a gym called "Calorie Bee" for staying fit. Visvesvaraya Hostel is where our first-year iMtech and MTech guys stay, with around 90 rooms across four floors.
  • Food: The common mess and canteen on the ground floor of Bhaskara serve up four meals a day - breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and dinner. They even have a non-veg (chicken) option three times a week for dinner.
  • Infrastructure: The campus boasts a massive basketball court, lawn tennis and volleyball courts, and two indoor badminton courts. There's also a gym to help you stay in shape, and they are planning to add two more badminton and three table tennis courts. The university has a modern library and a world-class auditorium for your learning and entertainment.
  • Medical Facility: The university provides on-campus doctors, and here's something unique - YourDOST. It's a platform that connects you with experts like psychologists, psychotherapists, and career coaches for online and in-person counseling. It's completely confidential and tailored to your needs.
  • Events: IIIT Bangalore hosts a bunch of events throughout the year, from TEDx talks and hackathons to cultural showcases and sports competitions. Even the alumni organize "Yamini," an annual event celebrating Indian classical and dance forms.

With well-maintained hostels, diverse culinary offerings, outstanding sports facilities, and access to medical and counseling services, students are well-supported in their pursuit of knowledge and personal development.

Which IIIT is better, IIIT B or IIIT A?

AB

Lives in Bangalore

If you are considering IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Allahabad for your undergraduate studies in computer science and information technology, there are several factors you should take into account before making a decision.

  • IIIT Bangalore offers an iMtech program combining bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science and engineering, while IIIT Allahabad offers a bachelor's program in information technology that can later be converted to a master's degree.
  • IIITA is a government institute, while IIITB is based on a public-private partnership model.
  • IIITA has a larger campus and lower fees, while IIITB has better-credentialed faculty and no reservations of any kind.
  • Both institutes have great infrastructure, excellent placement records, and coding cultures, but IIITB has a higher ratio of students qualifying for the Google Summer of Code.
  • IIITB is located in the heart of Electronic City, which houses major companies such as Siemens, HP, Infosys, and HCL, providing ample opportunities for internships and exposure.
  • The course structure at IIITB is more rigorous, and the peer group is stronger due to no reservations. The focus is primarily on academics and coding, with secondary attention given to sports and cultural activities.
  • IIIT Allahabad's course structure is less rigorous due to a mixed peer group. The student community focuses more on extracurricular activities in addition to academics and coding.
  • IIIT Allahabad has a lower cutoff for admissions and more seats, resulting in a more diverse peer group.
  • IIIT Allahabad has lower fees and is located in a city with a rich cultural heritage.

Before making a decision, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons of both institutes and determine which factors are most important to you. Consider factors such as city connect, peer group, course structure, focus on academics or extracurricular activities, and the environment that would help you thrive. With careful consideration, you can choose the institute that is the best fit for you and your goals.

My son got rank 3903 in JEE Advanced. We have secured admission in IIIT Bangalore in Imtech (CS). What are some opinions whether to opt for available branches in IIT or continue with IIIT Bangalore?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : October 10th, 2023

The choice mainly depends on your son’s interest field. But I’m assuming his interest lies in CSE.

In that case, IIIT Bangalore is a great place to nurture his ambitions and goals. He will be groomed to become the best IT/Research professional through this college. The research faculty and exposure are both top-notch for UG students at IIIT Bangalore.

The course curriculum gives great importance to practical knowledge. For this reason, he’ll get good projects under the mentorship of experienced faculty/ imminent corporate leaders.

The college is located in the IT hub, and M.Tech is its flagship program. Your son will be exposed to a diverse crowd on campus. He’ll get to intern twice during the course of 5 years. Through these internships, he’ll be exposed to top industry professionals. He may also get the opportunity to work with research professionals from the best US colleges.

The seniors and faculty of IIIT Bangalore greatly encourage research attitudes among juniors. During placement season, M.Tech students receive high-paying job offers.

IIIT Bangalore is a great option if your son is interested in CSE. In this case, you should not run after the IIT tag.

The full stack web development course offered by IIIT Bangalore in partnership with Upgrad has several benefits. It is an 11-month long program, but it is worth your time and money.

Before making my decision, I had a call with an UpGrad personnel and someone from IIITB. They described to me in detail how the curriculum was divided. I am mentioning the most important topics to give you a basic idea-

  1. Foundations of JAVA, Data Structures and Algorithms
  2. Backend (MVC, Spring and RESTful API’s)
  3. Frontend ( HTML, CSS, JS and REACT.JS)

Through this course, you’ll become eligible to work as a Backend Developer, a Frontend Developer, or a Full Stack Developer. All these roles are in high demand at present.

You’ll get hands-on training and multiple assessments to enhance your understanding of the topics. Other than that, you’ll be offered good mentorship and placement services.

These are the highlights of this program which motivate me to invest my time and money into it. According to me, it is a good course and you can definitely consider it.

Is IIIT Bangalore better than NITs?

PP

Lives in Bangalore

IIIT Bangalore is a public-private co-owned college. It is supported by big corporations like Infosys on one hand, and the Karnataka Government on the other.

It is analogous to IIIT Hyderabad but less recognized in comparison. It has an exceptionally good coding culture and top-class faculty for both CSE and ECE courses.

Placement-wise, only the top 5 NITs are actually performing impressively. IIIT Bangalore M.Tech graduates are placed with good packages in top brands. iM.Techs of IIIT Bangalore secure good internships in top brands like OLA, HCL, Infosys, etc. Several of them are selected for GSoC.

IIIT Bangalore is far ahead of most NITs, except the top 3-4 of them. If you are interested in CSE/ ECE branches, this is the place for you.

What is the process of getting an admission at IIIT Bangalore for a B.Tech?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : October 10th, 2023

In order to join the iM.Tech course at IIIT Bangalore, you need to clear JEE Mains with around 8000 rank. After attaining this rank, visit the IIITB website and apply for an iM.Tech in CS/EC. You’ll receive an offer letter after which you can join this college.

The college does not follow any reservation criteria for its admissions. So with a decent rank in JEE Mains, you’ll get admission to the integrated program. The faculty is top-notch, with educators having studied at prestigious colleges like CMU, Stanford, University of Waterloo, etc. You’ll be taught an updated curriculum, and the studies will be industry relevant.

This is how you can get admission into IIIT Bangalore for your iM.Tech. The college does not offer a B.Tech degree.

Which is better, NIT Calicut for CSE or IIIT Bangalore for CSE?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : October 19th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Students from both these institutes will have a bias for their respective colleges. If you ask IIIT Bangalore students, they will recommend you choose their college. The same is the case for NIT Calicut students.

Reach out to one senior from both these colleges who belongs to the CSE department. Ask them about the infrastructure, faculty, curriculum, placements, and other important aspects of their respective department. Don’t ask an NITC student about IIITB, and vice versa. This is because they might have misconceptions about the other institute.

I would recommend IIIT Bangalore. The institute has top-notch faculty, placements, research facilities, campus quality, and hostels. Moreover, it doesn’t follow any reservation criteria for admissions, unlike NITC.

Try to approach seniors from both these colleges, and research a bit on the IIIT Bangalore CSE department. Also, IIIT Bangalore offers iM.Tech in CSE, and not B.Tech.
