What are the scholarships given at SASTRA university?
According to the information I got from the website, there are 2 types of scholarships provided by SASTRA University.
Hostel Scholarships:
Students availing this scholarship should meet a certain criteria.
- They should not have paid the fine for mess facilities.
- Hostel attendance should be perfect.
- Indiscipline action should not be done by the student in the hostel.
- They should have a minimum of 90% class attendance.
If you meet the above criteria and have and maintain a good CGPA, you will be offered a scholarship of INR 16,000. This reimburses the Mess Fee for a year.
Dean’s List Merit Scholarship for Top Scorers in University Examinations:
There are two levels in obtaining this.
- If you are in the top 2-3% in the university, you will be offered two-fifths of a semester fees.
- If you are in the top 3-10% in the university, you will be offered one-fifth of a semester fees.
Therefore, SASTRA University is known to have helped students who face financial difficulties. They will help you complete your studies in extreme cases. If you are a good student with a decent GPA and conduct you will be assured a proper graduation.

How good is CSE in SASTRA University?
SASTRA University is well-known for its computing branches, i.e. CSE, IT, ICT. These branches offer great salary packages and placement opportunities. In the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered was 58 LPA. If you are passionate about coding and programming then it is a great place for you.
The curriculum is updated every now and then and you will have good opportunities to explore the IT Software sector. You can even get into MNCs, with a little bit of effort.
How is Sastra University?
Sastra University is one of the most reputed institutes in South India, especially for engineering. In 2020, it was ranked 50 for university and 38 for B.Tech by NIRF. I have a few friends from Sastra University.
Here are some of the information regarding the institute that my friends shared.
Infrastructure:
- There are costly research facilities, i.e. ASK1 and ASK2. There are plenty of things that you can explore if you are genuinely interested.
- For branches like ECE, Mech, Civil, CSE the laboratory facilities provided are excellent.
- The classrooms have projectors.
- Sastra offers hostel accommodation for their students. The hostel facilities are decent. There is a post office and ATM near the hostels. The campus has two canteens i.e Canopy and Krishna Canteen, on-campus that offers decent food at affordable prices. There are a few eateries around the campus too.
Faculty and Curriculum:
- The faculty base of the institute is great.
- The curriculum was renewed recently. It is updated with the industry requirements.
Mark System and Scholarships:
Sastra follows a GPA system. Having a decent GPA can help you get scholarships and even a chance to sit for placement in reputed companies. If you have a GPA of around 8.5, you can sit for companies like Amazon, Cypress, etc. Although most companies allow students with a 7.5 CGPA to sit for placements.
Placement:
The placement record of the institute is great. In the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered by the university was 27 LPA.
Overall, Sastra University is great. It will offer great infrastructure, decent facilities, and placement at an affordable fee.
How good is it to study Aerospace Engineering at SASTRA University?
Aerospace Engineering is among the newly established branches at SASTRA University. It has good infrastructural facilities with well-equipped labs. Aerodynamics (low and high speed) lab, Gas dynamics lab, Structures, and Propulsion lab are some of the laboratory facilities available.
The faculty base of the Aerospace department is quite good. The faculty members have M.Tech and PhDs from reputed institutes of India. The department is growing fast in teaching as well as research and consultancy.
Students from this department got placed in organizations like Rolls Royce, Lockheed Martin, ISRO, DRDO. Many students are also pursuing higher studies in IITs and abroad.
The Aerospace department of SASTRA has also engaged in collaborative research with CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, etc. So, if you are interested in joining SASTRA University for a degree in Aerospace Engineering, you should go for it.
How is Mechanical Engineering at Sastra University?
One of my friends studied at SASTRA University. According to him, Mechanical engineering is pretty good when placements are considered.
- The overall academics and curriculum are average.
- The faculty are highly experienced but are very few in number.
- Students interested in Research are provided appropriate guidance and backup for it.
- Intra and Inter-departmental technical festivals also are conducted.
- Mechanical Engineering students have their labs dedicated to their department.
- Students take part in events conducted by SAE which make a real good addition to your resume.

Though ECE is said to be the most sought after department in SASTRA University, when placements, faculty and course curriculum is considered. But Mechanical also does not lag behind.
Which is better, the Thiagarajar College of Engineering or the SASTRA University? Why?
Thiagarajar College Of Engineering (TCE) Madurai is affiliated to Anna University and approved by AICTE. It offers 8 undergraduate programs, 15 postgraduate programs and doctoral programs in the fields of Engineering and Technology and Science and Architecture. It ranked 64th in the engineering category by NIRF 2020.
SASTRA University is ranked 48 overall and 37 for BTech by NIRF 2020. They have a highly qualified faculty. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses.
Admission Requirements
- 50% marks in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- For PG courses 50% in graduation (BTech or BE) is required.
- For admission in TCE students have to give the TNEA entrance exam.

TCE and SASTRA University are equally good in their placement records, though the salary packages offered by the participating companies might differ. It ultimately depends on the student’s preferences of location, affordability, environment and their score obtained in the entrance examinations.
Which is better for CSE, SASTRA University or PES University?
PES University, Bangalore, and SASTRA University, Thanjavur are private institutions that have been accredited by NAAC. Both universities are recognized by UGC as well. The CSE program is a popular branch of engineering studies offered by both institutions.

CSE is a decent program at these institutions and thus, it is an individual’s personal discretion as to which one will be the best choice for him or her. One must thoroughly learn about both the universities before taking the decision.
Is Sastra University better than NIT’s?
Based on various parameters like salary packages, peer group, etc. NITs are definitely better than SASTRA.
However, SASTRA is also a reputed university, especially if we talk about research facilities. It has a great research infrastructure. The faculties are also good. Many of them are IIT or NIT alumni. The faculty research outcome of SATRA is similar to that of NIT Trichy, in terms of citation.
Alumni of SASTRA are pursuing their studies in reputed universities around the world like MIT, Caltech, Harvard, etc.
What is unique at SASTRA University?
Dedicating faculties and a great placement record are the reasons why SASTRA stands out. In 2021 placement drive students at the university received 2300 job offers. The university collaborated with 70 companies for the placement drive. More than 500 students got multiple job offers.
