TJ
Tanya Jain Posted On : September 15th, 2020
M.Tech VLSI Design, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior

The MTech in VLSI program at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior is a two-year program with specializations in Advanced Networks, Digital Communication, and Information Security. The annual median salary across students is noted to be 5.8 LPA in 2019.

  • The faculty at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior for the MTech VLSI program are professionals in the field who come from a background of academic expertise and are well-versed with VLSI methods and processes.
  • They are known to educate and train students to be acute professionals and use their knowledge to create practical solutions in the corporate world.
  • Students that participate in the college’s placement drive will have the opportunity to interact with VLSI specialized companies like AMD and Altera. A
  • Although it is important to note that the majority of companies that appear during the recruitment season are usually from the software sector and therefore there is a higher chance of not getting an opportunity to work at a core VLSI based firm.
  • Some recruiting companies at IIITM, Gwalior for VLSI are Snapdeal, Samsung, TCS, Amazon, Adobe, Myntra, Practo, Reliance, Cisco, Alcatel, and Google.

The stipend paid varies according to the company but as per the MHRD norms it amounts to Rs 8000. Some students have also received a stipend of Rs 12,400 as per AICTE norms. So it would be ideal to conclude that the stipend ranges from anywhere between Rs 8000 to Rs 12,400.

Students are required to perform intensive research about the type of companies that they are looking to work with, considering IIITM, Gwalior offers limited placements to students from the VLSI sector. The total fees for the course amount to 4.23 lacs whereas students are required to clear the GATE exams in order to be eligible for admissions.

AP
Akshara Patel Posted On : September 13th, 2021
M.Tech Microelectronics and VLSI Design,Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (2019)

According to my friend at IIT Ropar, the first batch of Microelectronics and VLSI Design was from 2019-2020, where there were only 10 and 7 students for the M.Tech and Ph.D. course respectively.

  • The faculties of IIT Ropar are young and energetic.
  • It’s quite early to predict placements and hence should wait for some time.
  • Being an IIT, the college is well developed, the infrastructure is decent, and the academics are great.
  • The faculty of IIT Ropar for Microelectronics and VLSI Design branch of 1st semester includes 1 professor from IIT Delhi and 5 professors from IIT Bombay and Guwahati.
  • The courses for the 1st semester for the Microelectronics and VLSI Design includes a total of 5 courses, 1 lab, and 1 seminar session.
  • These include Digital IC Design, RF Engineering, CMOS Analog IC Design, Semiconductor Device Physics and Modeling, CAD for VLSI Design, Circuit Simulation Lab, and Seminar Session.
Categories Microelectronics and VLSI Design at IIT Ropar
Course Fee INR 72,940
Average CTC 14.6 LPA
Recruiting Companies DRDO, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, HCL, etc.

Some industries visit IIT Ropar in the first semester and the selected students have to choose to work with them. The 2nd year project can be completed in any company also if a student wishes to. The department helps the student to find the company if the student wants and if not then he/she can do the project on the campus itself.

The MTech ESD is a newly launched program at IIIT Bangalore. Here are a few pros and cons that might help you understand the credibility of the program

Pros

  • IIIT Bangalore is located in the IT hub so there won’t be a dearth of opportunities related to hackathons, design conferences, and the stuff.
  • The professors have tried to make good connections with the industry. Some of the best professors are Prof. Subhajit Sen and Prof. Subir Roy
  • The course structure is extremely flexible allowing you to take up any course of your choice.
  • The students of Embedded Systems are assisted by their senior batch, from team Q-Alpha, regarding all aspects.

Cons

  • The branch is new and not well-established.
  • Embedded Systems lack some of the courses like RTOS and Linux drivers courses.

So choose wisely after weighing the pros and cons of the stream.

What about NIT Raipur for an M.Tech in VLSI? Is it worth doing an M.Tech from NIT Raipur?

AS
Aditi Sukla Posted On : August 30th, 2022
B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Raipur

NIT Raipur isn’t a good option for an MTech in VLSI. It is a new branch and only a few branches have been through placements. According to NIT Raipur placement highlights, the placement rate isn’t that good for M.Tech VLSI. The majority of the students get non-core placements. Only around 4-5 students get core jobs.

It is a good option, in terms of research. Students of MTech VLSI have good research publications. The department also has decent facilities and technology to carry out research work.

I am thinking of joining KJ Somaiya, VidyaVihar for mtech electronics. Is it is a good college study wise? I am not concerned for placement.

M.E. Video Processing, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2016)

It is not just KJ Somaiya, but every college you decide to go to, find out the following, especially for post-graduate studies:

  • Qualifications of the professors in your college
  • The crowd of the college and scope for securing internships on different topics
  • If there is any research going on in the college and if so, how is the research cell? Many M. Tech students wish to do something new and collaborate with people having the same interests as well.
  • Opinions of others about the college. When you interact with the students you will come to know what places are nice and where you can hang out

A friend of mine completed her M. Tech from KJ Somaiya and her experience was average. The research cell is not great and some teachers are well versed in their subject whereas others struggle with basic knowledge.

If you are concerned about placements, those are definitely improving over the years and this college will only be a good option for you if you are not looking for placements.

Which college is better for an MTech, VLSI, NIT Surathkal or IIIT Bangalore?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : October 19th, 2023

Based on my research, here is some relevant information to assist you-

IIIT Bangalore offers much better infrastructure, research facilities, and placement opportunities as compared to NIT Surathkal. However, the fee structure at IIIT Bangalore is also on the higher side. Most of the top brands visit both these campuses for placements.

As of June 2023, the highest CTC for M.Tech ECE stood at 38 LPA, at IIIT Bangalore. The average CTC stood at 26.2 LPA, and the median CTC stood at 22.5 LPA.

Though both are top colleges, I would recommend you choose IIIT Bangalore for M.Tech ECE. Especially, if the fee is not an issue for you.

Should I choose IIT Bhubaneswar or Anna University for an M.Tech in VLSI?

NA
Nishant Arora Posted On : December 16th, 2022
Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IITBBSR)

Whether it is new or old, an IIT is still an IIT. Once you complete your degree, you will always be an IITian and be eligible for its advantages throughout your professional life. Electrical Sciences, the category under which ECE falls, is in an average position in terms of placement.

During the IIT Bhubaneswar placement in 2022, the highest salary offered to BTech students was INR 44.10 LPA. Additionally, the highest packages for BTech and MTech were INR 44.10 LPA and INR 17.13 LPA, respectively, during IIT BBS placements in 2022. 88% of applicants are placed. There are some problems with it because it is a new IIT.

B.Tech+M.Tech Civil Engineering & Structural Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2021)

After a having a look at the M-Tech placements at IIT Bhubaneswar for the batch of 2020, it was observed that the placement rate for MTech students was 68% with companies like Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, Affine Analytics, HCL, HPCL, IOCL, ISRO, Ittiam, Infosys, KIIT, Go-Jek, and Goldman Sachs coming as recruiters and PSUs like IOCL, NCCBM, ISRO also taking part in the recruitment process. The highest placements were about 40 LPA CTC with the top recruiters being Goldman Sachs, Renault Nissan, Oracle, Samsung R and D, TCS R and D, Infosys, and Adobe to name a few. IT, Core Engineering Sectors, and education sectors drew the maximum placements followed by PSU, E-commerce and Analytics. Now moving on to VLSI while this branch is not available as a full branch for MTech at IIT Bhubaneswar, another branch of ECE is available in MTech which is communication systems although it is also named as ECE in MTech. This branch has VLSI as an elective course with 3 credits and 3 contact hours, and the above M-Tech placement statistics ought to give you an idea with respect to the placements of that branch at IIT Bhubaneswar.
