Which is better, EE at DTU or ICE at NSIT?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 4th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

There is no better branch between EE at DTU and ICE at NSIT. It's all about preferences and inclinations. To help you make an informed decision let's talk about both the branches individually

EE at DTU

  • EE at DTU is core electrical engineering wherein you are taught concepts related to power, grids, electrical machines, etc.
  •  For placements, core companies like BHEL and companies in the energy field visit the campus.

ICE at NSIT

  • This branch has Control Engineering concepts along with electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.ICE has very light coursework and it's easy to maintain a good CGPA.
  • You also get enough time for your passions and extracurriculars.
  • IT giants like Facebook, Google, etc. Don't allow ICE students to sit for placements.
  • Core companies that recruit students of this branch include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and others.
  • Non-tech companies like BCG, Bain, and JPMC allow all students to sit for placements.
  • NSIT has a larger batch size and thus the competition here is less than DTU for placements but it still it cannot match the brand value of DTU.

In all, both DTU and NSIT have similar opportunities and placements so with the right mindset you can do well at both colleges.

Is it better to take metallurgy in NIT Rourkela or electrical in NIT Silchar?

RH
Rituparna Hazra Posted On : July 5th, 2021
B.Tech in E.C.E from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

You need to compare the two universities to make a decision between the two. Having friends studying in both the institutes, I might be able to help you with the question.

Metallurgy at NIT Rourkela:

  • Campus-wise, the college has a very large campus.
  • But, if you are planning to pursue metallurgy, let me tell you that you will have lesser job opportunities in both the public and private sectors in India.
  • You might have to shift to another country to get a well-paying job and earn decently in your field of study.

Electrical at NIT Silchar:

  • There are also some really good facilities here including the largest digital library in South Asia.
  • The campus is really good too.
  • The placement records are amazing. Moreover, electrical is an evergreen branch with decent scope in the public sector. This would surely make a good alternative.

Which is better, data science engineering or electrical engineering at IIT Mandi?

SG
Sonam Gupta Posted On : May 26th, 2023
Studied B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (2021)

Both Data Science Engineering and Electrical Engineering at IIT Mandi are excellent programs with their own strengths and unique opportunities. The nature and job opportunities of both programs are poles apart.

Data Science Engineering focuses on the application of statistical and computational methods to extract insights from data. It covers topics like probability, visualization, numbers, algorithms, and such.

Electrical Engineering on the other hand is related to the design and development of electrical systems, such as power generation and distribution, control systems, and communications.

It’s better to research the curriculum and course offerings of both programs, as well as speak with current students or faculty to gain a better understanding of which program aligns best with your interests and goals.

How is Electrical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar?

AG
Ayantika Ghosh Posted On : March 26th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2019)

Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, or as we would call it often - IIIT GN is pretty decent. The research activities revolve around Electrical and Electronics teaching. Even today in 2021, the department still happens to offer a degree in B.Tech, M.Tech, and even Ph.D.

Categories

Electrical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar

Course Fee

8.71 lakh

Average CTC

9 LPA

Recruiting Companies

L&T, Torrent Power and Barclays.

Whatever you grasp via the course should be authentic and is ensured by the department. You are required to focus upon laboratory components, projects, and internships. Not just experienced, but the department also comprises a team of young faculty too who are equally dedicated and dynamic.

Keeping research and teaching aside, faculties would also be seen engaging themselves in organizing various events which are camps, workshops, and constant campus visits so that the environment carries on a conducive environment that helps the students learn better.

Which is better: Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay or Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 18th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

It would be suggested to pursue Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay rather than Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee.

When it comes to studying physics at IITB, there are some key differences between JEE physics and college-level physics. Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • In JEE physics, you study formula derivations after brief explanations of concepts and practice a lot of problems in that topic. College-level physics courses are typically more rigorous in theoretical and mathematical content, and problems are solved to help you understand the concepts more deeply.
  • While EE does not have any pure physics courses after the first year, it focuses on making you an electrical engineer. Core courses include analog and digital electronics, signals and systems, network theory, electronic devices, microprocessors, power electronics, and some relevant math courses.
  • EP, on the other hand, has core courses like quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, statistics, relativity, classical mechanics, waves and optics, nuclear physics, etc. There are also important math courses up to your second year.
  • EP trains you in core physics concepts and prepares you for experimental physics and electronics, giving you many options for your career path. You can work in theoretical or experimental physics, electronics, statistics and stochastics, CS-related research, or pursue higher studies in physics.
  • When choosing between IITB and IIT Roorkee, consider factors like the quality of professors, campus culture, and location. IITB has excellent professors, a beautiful campus, and great cultural and sports scenes, and is close to TIFR, which provides opportunities for collaboration.
  • When it comes to placements, most EP students go for higher studies because they are passionate about physics. For EE, core and non-core jobs are similar to those for other courses in terms of job security and salary packages.

Finally, the "brand" of IITs, especially IIT Bombay, provides a sense of job security that can be reassuring for graduates.

Which is a better choice among industrial systems engineering at IIT Kharagpur and electrical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar?

A
Admin Posted On : June 18th, 2024

It is tough to choose one institute over the other as all institutes have a different approach to teaching, subject curriculum, etc.

I can say with my personal experience that Industrial Systems Engineering at IIT Kharagpur is better than Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest and best engineering colleges in India.

For the Industrial Systems Engineering branch, top recruiters like American Express, Capillary Technologies, Bosch, Tata Motors, etc. offer an average package between 13 LPA to 15 LPA, and the average placement rate for this course is over 75%.

Even though the statistics for Electrical Engineering placements at IIT Bhubaneswar are better, IIT KGP offers a much stronger alumni network and a richer legacy. To add to this, the flexible curriculum of IIT KGP makes sure that its students can easily fit into any sector.

After considering all the factors, I would suggest you choose Industrial Systems Engineering at IIT KGP over Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar. But I would also point out that you must ultimately choose the branch which interests you the most.

Which branch should I choose: B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Roorkee or Dual Degree (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Kharaghpur?

A
Admin Posted On : July 3rd, 2024

According to me, B.Tech (Electrical engineering) from IIT Roorkee is a better option due to the following reasons:

  • B.Tech electrical engineering is a 4 year program while dual degree (electrical engineering) is a five year program. This means that choosing IIT Roorkee will help you enter the workforce earlier.
  • The B.Tech curriculum focuses equally on theoretical and practical learning. This will prepare you for industry roles.

On the other hand, the dual degree curriculum gives more importance to research and specialisation in electrical engineering.

  • Here are the 2023 placement figures for IIT Roorkee and IIT KGP:
Parameters IIT KGP (Phase-I) IIT Roorkee
Highest Package INR 2.6 CPA INR 1.3 CPA
(Highest International- INR 1.06 CPA)
Top Recruiters (2024) OLA, OneByZero, SecPod, SIRION LABS, TCS Research, and others. American Express, Barclays, Chegg Inc, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Myntra, and more.

Unfortunately, the branch-wise placements are not available for either of these IITs.

I would recommend you choose B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee over Dual Degree in Electrical at IIT KGP due to the above reasons.

KD
Koyel Dey Posted On : April 16th, 2021
Studied at IIIT Allahabad (2019)

One of my friends is a student at IIIT Allahabad pursuing a dual degree in IT. My older brother is a student at IIT Mandi, where he is studying electrical engineering. Regarding the whole situation, let me be absolutely honest with you.

  • If you are interested in electrical engineering, you should first apply to IIT Mandi.
  • Even if you are interested in CSE, you can choose IIT Mandi if you are confident in your ability to score well as branch change rules are less stringent there.
  • The campus and surrounding scenery are both stunning at IIT Mandi.
  • Since there are fewer students, there are more opportunities in every sector.
  • There are better sports facilities, as well as the IIT designation. IIT Mandi is the place to go if you want to be more involved on campus.
