Both Data Science Engineering and Electrical Engineering at IIT Mandi are excellent programs with their own strengths and unique opportunities. The nature and job opportunities of both programs are poles apart.

Data Science Engineering focuses on the application of statistical and computational methods to extract insights from data. It covers topics like probability, visualization, numbers, algorithms, and such.

Electrical Engineering on the other hand is related to the design and development of electrical systems, such as power generation and distribution, control systems, and communications.

It’s better to research the curriculum and course offerings of both programs, as well as speak with current students or faculty to gain a better understanding of which program aligns best with your interests and goals.

In choosing among two streams, a candidate should go with his/her own interest first. If at some point he/she is in doubt, the stream with maximum opportunity and facilities must have opted. Among the above two departments, data science and engineering can be considered as the better option. The points below state some reasons supporting the cause of choice.

Even being a newer branch, Data science and engineering at IIT Mandi is a stream worth studying, and most students like its curriculum.
The curriculum of Data science and engineering is quite similar to that of computer science and engineering. So, if the student loses interest in data science in the future, he/she can opt for anything else in computer science easily at any point in time.
Even students from electrical engineering can change their matter of interest while studying in IIT Mandi but, from data science, it is easier.

Thus, data science and engineering is the preferred option, looking into the facts of curriculum and opportunities. Even the cut-off rank for Data science and engineering is lesser than electrical engineering in IIT Mandi.
