I gave an interview for my MBBS admission at CMC Vellore back in 2015. The interview pattern at CMC has been mostly unchanged for a long time. The process lasts for 3 days.
Here is the complete breakdown of the entire MBBS interview process at CMC Vellore:
The final step is the PI. The G.O.s ask similar questions in different ways. It is important to answer with confidence and firmness. One of the most frequently asked questions is- “Why did you choose medicine?”
Though a 2-year bond may seem undesirable for an MBBS student at CMC Vellore, it is quite fair. AFMC has in place a 7-year bond period. In addition to this, several state medical colleges have a bond period as well.
I completed a 2 year bond period after my MBBS from CMC Vellore in 2017. The bond period is a great time for learning. It transformed a fresh MBBS graduate like me into a clinician/surgeon. It is the perfect time to decide on MD specialization.
During my bond period, I worked for 2 years in a secondary hospital where the patient profiles were very diverse. The hospital I worked at receives patients with MIs, DKA, Strokes, PUOs, CKD, RTAs with polytrauma and head injuries, etc.
By the end of my bond period, I had received so much exposure that I knew which PG specialization I wanted to opt for. It is much better than sitting at home and mugging books. Practical knowledge is essential in the field of medicine.
My experience has helped shape me as a clinician. Thus, I would suggest you do not regret choosing CMC Vellore because of the 2-year bond period.
CMC Vellore enjoys a good reputation abroad and you are highly regarded wherever you go. However, you might be considered highly by the Indians staying abroad and not the locals because they hardly know about CMC. People might not be familiar with your college if you are working with a multinational set of colleagues.
Coming to the second part of your question, yes, you do get paid during the bond period of 2 years but the salary depends on your sponsoring body. Some sponsoring bodies have more funds than others so you might not receive a salary equal to your friends. The primary goal is to serve the community so your focus should be social service and not monetary gains. Moreover, the hands-on experience and exposure you get are unmatched and improve your skills a lot and also improve your job opportunities. So, keep money on the back pedestal and work hard to serve society!

The girls' hostel at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India is well-regarded for its cleanliness and safety. Girls have their own governing body and a very friendly and secure atmosphere. The girls are free to do whatever they want and minimal restrictions are imposed upon them, unlike other medical colleges across the country. Usually, they are expected to return to the hostel by 12.
The hostel facilities are top notch including a gym, library, study room, common rooms, beautiful gardens, chapel, and many more. The first-year students are allotted 3–4 seater rooms so that they don't feel lonely or homesick initially. Once they adapt well to the environment, the girls are provided single rooms from the second year.
Overall, the girls' hostel facility at CMC Vellore is great with minimal restrictions and great experiences.
CMC Vellore's college life is rigorous and challenging, with a strong emphasis on academics. However, there are also a variety of extracurricular activities and events that take place throughout the year, such as cultural and sports fests, as well as clubs and societies that students can join. These can provide a fun and engaging way to get involved in the campus community and connect with other students. You will witness an amazing family-like bond between seniors and juniors.
Here are some major events that add to the vibrancy of campus life
You will be amazed by the lush green campus surrounded by hills. The picturesque view is worth spending time here. One unique aspect of the college is that the hostels are run by the students themselves. There is a special governing body comprising hostelers that conducts meetings to discuss important agendas like weekly menus and address the complaints lodged by the students.
Overall, CMC Vellore has a very dynamic campus life!
Honestly, there is no specific strategy to prepare for the CMC Vellore UG entrance exam. It’s more than enough if you are preparing properly for the AIPMT. Also, I will suggest you follow just one reference book thoroughly. Arrange as many mocks as you can before the exams and also time yourself. Usually, very basic questions are asked and focus is given to speed rather than complexity. I have many friends living near Vellore who took coaching at a college called Voorhees in Vellore to prepare for CMC.
In addition to academic preparation, students should also focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, to ensure they are in good physical and mental health for the exam.
Hope this helps you!
CMC Vellore offers an exciting campus life to undergraduates. It is counted among the best places in the country to study medicine. It is consistently ranked among the 5 medical colleges in the country.
The seniors and faculties are helpful. You can approach them regarding any academic issues. Students are assigned mentors and foster from the first year itself. The mentors and fosters help students with their curriculums and academics. Being a tertiary care center, CMC Vellore offers decent clinical exposure to the students. You will get to explore many complicated and rare cases. The research opportunities are ample.
Without any second thoughts, choose AFMC over CMC because it ranks higher than most other medical colleges in the country. AFMC provides excellent exposure and opportunities to its students both in terms of academics as well as research. The most appealing aspect of the institute is that it’s a government college so the tuition is almost free of cost. CMC on the other hand is a private medical college that charges a high fee.
Although there isn’t a guarantee of a PG seat in any medical college, I can say that if you have done MBBS in AFMC then your chances of getting a PG seat are very high.
Overall, the top-notch academic ambiance and the highly qualified faculty pool make it an excellent choice and therefore should certainly be considered over CMC Vellore.
There is no fixed pattern for the interview conducted by CMC Vellore in the last stage of the admission process. Usually, the shortlisted candidates are categorized into groups of 5 or 6, Boys and Girls, separately. There are 2 group observers for each group, called G.O. Students have to go through a number of individual tasks, group tasks, group discussions, and multiple interviews with their group observers.
Hope you make it to CMC Vellore, one of the best medical colleges in India.
