Earlier, FMS did not take past academics into consideration. But now it does. The admission at FMS Delhi is a 3-step process
The MBA and Ph.D. programs require the CAT exam as a requisite whereas the Executive MBA does not require any kind of exam.
Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% marks or Students in their Final Year of Graduation
Duration: 2 years
Selection criteria: The prerequisites apart from CAT scores are Academic Score, Statement of Purpose, and Personal Interview.
The weightage given to the above criteria is as follows
CAT: 50%
Academic Score of Class 10th: 10%
Academic Score of Class 12th: 10%
Discussion on Statement of Purpose: 10%
Extempore: 5%
Personal Interview: 15%
An additional 5 marks will be awarded to the Women Candidates who appear for the Interview.
I will recommend you stop focusing on the average packages of any Institute be it FMS, IITs, or IIMs. This is because average packages are quite misleading. Two main reasons are
Because of these reasons, I deem the average packages to be very misleading and should not be considered to determine the worth of a college.
FMS Delhi gives 50% weightage to the CAT score, which maximum weightage is given to the verbal section of the CAT. Class 10th and 12th are given 10% weightage each. If your 10th and 12th score is 60-75%, then you will receive a 5% score, and if it is more than 75%, then you will receive a 10% score.
Your 10th and 12th score is low, but you can still make up things in the CAT exam, especially in the verbal section and your interview and SOP discussion, interviews at FMS has been given a weightage of 15%. Your graduation percentage is just above the cut-off of 50%, which might create problems for you in admissions, but yes, miracles do happen.
If you score well in your CAT and interviews, there are chances. For other IIMs, the criteria remain somehow similar. All of them gives priority to CAT score and interviews.
According to the eligibility criteria, you must have completed a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks at the graduation level (SC/ST: Passing marks; OBC/PWD/CW: 45% weightage as per university rules) or equivalent CGPA.
It doesn’t mention anything about the 10th and 12th marks for being eligible for admission, but there is a weightage of
So, you will need to perform really well in the SOP, Extempore, and PI along with the CAT exam to stand a chance for admission.
Not at all. IIFT Delhi is not equal to FMS. Despite sharing a geographical location, both institutes have established very different standards and are leaders in their respective fields.
FMS is known for its ROI because the total course fee is only INR 1.92 lakhs and the average placement is INR 26.20 lakhs per year. You won't have to worry about EMIs and will have more financial freedom after completing your MBA.
On the contrary, if you want to specialize in international business, IIFT is the place to be. FMS will give you a general management degree, and your electives will determine what you specialize in, whereas the entire IIFT program is geared toward International Business. FMS lacks infrastructure, which is shared by all DU colleges. IIFT, on the other hand, has a superior infrastructure.
During the IIFT Delhi MBA IB placements 2022, the average package offered was INR 25.16 LPA. Previously, the average packages offered during the 2020 and 2021 IIFT Delhi MBA IB placements were INR 20.48 LPA and INR 21.08 LPA, respectively. As previously stated, FMS, Delhi has an average package of INR 26.20 LPA.
Finally, it comes down to your personal preferences and the institute(s) to which you were admitted. If given the opportunity, there is no reason not to attend either of these two institutions.
I will narrate to you the experience of my sister who thought she could never make it into FMS. But she tried anyway and as luck would have it she made it!
In 2016 my sister did not fill FMS application form as she thought she wouldn’t be accepted. With a percentile of 96.54, she got into MDI. Soon after she got interested in consulting, she rejected MDI and with little hope fill the application form for FMS the next year. With a CAT percentile of 99.21, she received an interview call. Almost all the other candidates had a better percentile than her. Yet she did not give up and went into the interview room with full confidence and a positive attitude. Amazingly she ranked 3rd out of 1010 candidates for GD/PI/Extempore Rounds. After a waitlist, she finally made it into FMS Delhi.
Once admitted she never took this opportunity for granted and made the best out of her MBA years. So never give up even before trying!
FMS Delhi maintains a stable placement record over years. Students receive lucrative salary packages every year. The institute has released the final report of the 2022 placement drive.

Let’s consider the effect of graduation scores in summer and final placements separately.
Summer Placements:
During these placements, the recruiters don’t have your MBA profile to judge you. So they have to take your graduation score, past academics, and other criteria into consideration. The summer placements are largely based on what the candidate has achieved till the time he joined his/her MBA program. This is exactly why placement committees request that students utilize the time before joining the institute to improve their resumes. You can upscale yourself with work experience, your education, your extra-curricular activities, etc.
Final Placements:
During these placements, the students are almost about to complete their MBA. This means their profile has improved through various on and off-campus opportunities. These opportunities include research projects, work on industry projects, and summer internships. So now your CGPA in your MBA program and performance in these activities carry more importance than your undergraduate CGPA.
So we can say graduation scores matter in summer placements but not much in final placements.
Getting into FMS Delhi is not easy as it is one of the best B Schools in India with limited seats and excessive competition due to its great ROI. The extremely low fee MBA program of 2 years is coveted by many so you have to earn your seat.
Also, this institute is the best choice for those who have below-average past academic records. This is because past academics carry less weight in the selection process of FMS.
