Is ISB Hyderabad a better option for candidates with work experience than the top list IIMs?

RS
Rahul Srivastav Posted On : August 10th, 2022

ISB Hyderabad is better for candidates with more than 3 years of experience. It is better than IIM executive MBA and PGPX programs. Most students at ISB, have few years of industry experience. So, the peer learning opportunities are plenty. The placement opportunities offered are great. ISB placements in 2022 ended with an average CTC of INR 34.07 LPA.

If you have less than 3 years of experience, IIM A, B, and C will offer better career outcomes.

Is ISB better than IIM Ahmedabad for someone wanting a career in product management in India?

RS
Rachit Sengupta Posted On : April 12th, 2023
studied at Indian School of Business

If you're considering pursuing a career in product management, it's important to choose the right business school that offers the best program and opportunities for this field. While both ISB and IIMs are well-known institutions for management education in India, there are some key differences to consider when it comes to their product management programs.

Here are some factors to keep in mind:

  • Product management is not a top preference at IIMs: Unlike some other business schools, product management is not a major focus at the IIMs. As a result, there are relatively fewer opportunities for students to learn about and pursue careers in this field. While some IIMs do offer product management courses, these are often not as comprehensive or specialized as the programs offered by other schools.
  • Limited recruitment for product management roles at IIMs: Due to the relatively lower focus on product management, not many companies that recruit from IIMs offer roles in this field. This means that even if you do take up a product management course at an IIM, you may find it difficult to secure a relevant job after graduation.
  • ISB offers a better program for product management: On the other hand, it has a well-regarded program for product management. The school offers a specialization in product management as part of its PGPM which covers a range of topics such as product strategy, marketing, and innovation.
  • More opportunities for product management roles at ISB: Because of its strong program for product management, ISB attracts a lot of recruiters from companies looking to hire for roles in this field. This means that you are more likely to find relevant job opportunities after completing your degree at ISB, compared to IIMs.
  • IIMs are better for finance roles: While ISB may be the better choice for product management if you're interested in pursuing finance roles across private equity (PE), venture capital (VC), investment banks, or hedge funds, then IIMs are still the way to go. These schools have a strong reputation for finance education, and many top companies in these fields recruit heavily from IIMs.

If you're set on pursuing a career in product management, and you have a choice between ISB and IIMs, then ISB may be the better option. However, if you're open to other fields such as finance, then IIMs still have a lot to offer.

MBA Strategy & Finance, Indian School of Business

According to ISB Hyderabad cutoff trends, a GMAT score of 710 is a safe score. You should get a shortlist for an interview with your rank. Make sure you have a good profile as well. ISB looks for well-rounded candidate profiles. So, try to make your essays and LOR perfect. Rather than just the cutoff score, ISB focuses more on the overall student profile.

GP
Gauri Pandey Posted On : March 8th, 2021
Studies PGP from Indian School of Business (2023)

Before commenting on the admission fee, let me tell you the difference between the admission fee and the total expense of pursuing an MBA from ISB Hyderabad. Admission fee refers to the minimum expenses within 15 days of getting the admit offer.

Particulars

Fee (Rs)

Admission Fee

2.50 Lakhs

Tuition Fee

24.54 Lakhs

The above is not inclusive of Electricity charges, Laundry charges, and eating/ recreation expenses. All of this includes accommodation, food, and all course-related material. Travel costs from your home location to both the ISB Campuses and International location are not included.

Some of the other expenses are as follows:

  1. Security deposit: A refundable security deposit of INR 20,000 has to be paid. These are refunded after deduction of any dues payable to the school.
  2. Alumni Fund: Alumni membership fee of INR 25,000 is to be paid. It’s paid at the beginning of the program.
  3. Recreation Centre: A deposit of INR 15,000 has to be paid for the lifetime use of the Recreation Centre. This is applicable for participants of all degree equivalent programs at ISB.
  4. Added benefits: A senior member from the students’ family can attend a 3-day executive education program “Family Business: Managing Growth and Transformation (MGT)” free of cost. This is valid only for the MGT program offered in the year 2021-22.

The tuition fee is payable in 4 equal installments over 12 months. These expenses may change over the course of the degree because of the program fee being revised by the ISB. Also, keep in mind that you might need to purchase laptops and other electronic aids recommended by the program office.

Does ISB Hyderabad offer summer internships ?

NB
Nikita Bose Posted On : May 27th, 2021
MBA Marketing & Operations, ISB Hyderabad

The flagship PGP course is a one-year course and thus there are no summer internships offered by ISB Hyderabad. And the students pursuing this course have an average work experience of around 5 years and a minimum work experience of around 20 months. So basically there is no need for an internship.

But there is a similar kind of program known as the Experiential Learning Program (ELP). This is a group project and they will select you if you show any interest in the project. These kinds of projects usually comprise around 4-5 people, according to the company's requirements. They make a project according to their interests and if they are selected, then they get the chance to do ELP with that company. You need to work on this project throughout your 8 terms, whenever possible, and also you have to work full time in your term breaks.

The company's manager gives feedback on your project and this remark is also included in your final year mark sheet. This is a very important project and will have a major impact in deciding your final year grade.

What is the lowest GMAT score allowed admission to ISB Hyderabad?

SD
Saunak Dasgupta Posted On : May 22nd, 2021
ISB Hyderabad

GMAT is the only criteria for selection at ISB. The admission team checks your complete profile in terms of leadership potential, teamwork, quality of experience, etc. They also look for diversity.

The chances of a person getting admission in ISB with a GMAT score of 570 is very much hypothetical. In reality, something like this stands for an exception only. On average you will need a Mean GMAT score of 710 in order to get admission at ISB.

It’s necessary that you will be able to communicate with international professors and colleagues on and off-campus. You should be able to participate and add value to the class case studies and curriculum. Additionally, they also check if you can be able to cope up with the intense one-year program. This is where GMAT and grades fit in - it’s almost a benchmark of the academic capabilities.

Your profile has to satisfy all of these criteria for your admission. It would be a worthwhile effort to interact with ISB alumni for an evaluation of your complete profile for applying to ISB. You should be well aware as to why are you choosing to pursue MBA at the current juncture in your career.

How can you compare ISB's CBA vs IIM Bangalore's BAI courses?

AS
Ankit Srivastava Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Some of my friends are studying in both the institutes and according to their firsthand experience, both the courses differ from each other. For a clearer view, you must take a look at the major pros and cons of both of them.

Pros:

ISB CBA:

  • ISB CBA has a great campus and you will be lucky to have a global faculty.
  • You will get tremendous networking opportunities with 100+ batches as you will be among brilliant talents.
  • Most of the pedagogy includes offline methods whereas online teaching is only limited to tutorials.
  • Some of the best Faculties in the institute are Prof Shailesh, Prof Sarang Deo, Prof Arun, and Prof Sudhir Voleti.
  • As the CBA course is a full-time course, you will also benefit by getting the ISB Brand Value. This might help you get recognition.

IIM Bangalore BAI:

  • You will get global faculty and excellent peers to be with.
  • No one can compete with IIM’s brand value.
  • As the course is mostly offered in online mode, it is quite ideal if you are a working person.

Cons:

  • ISB CBA: The fees are quite expensive for most middle-class students. There should be more career opportunities that justify the cost.
  • IIM Bangalore BAI: You are not allowed to stay within the campus which significantly reduces your chances to enjoy vast networking.

Both the courses come with their own pros and cons while holding a big brand value, therefore the decision lies in your hand.

Does ISB Hyderabad accept GRE scores?

RS
Raman Singhal Posted On : March 8th, 2021
Studied PGP from Indian School of Business (2017)

Earlier, they used to accept only GMAT scores. But, recently, it has been announced to accept GRE scores as well. It is a section-adaptive test which means the difficulty level of sections depends on your performance within the first sections completed by you.

The course structure and test format for both GMAT and GRE largely differ for both these exams. So, if you're preparing for admission to ISB, it's better to research every factor carefully to make sure a far better selection. They don’t have an official cutoff or minimum eligible score for GRE. However, a score of 310 and above will offer you greater chances of getting an interview call from ISB. Considering the competition nowadays, the higher the score, the better.

We can conclude, on a general basis, that the average GRE score for ISB is 324. In the year 2019, the eligible range for the GRE scores was 311-335 while the average GRE score was 326. Looking at the typical GRE score, the bar for admission is pretty high at ISB. Applicants will need some solid amount of GRE preparation to crack the typical score of 324 at ISB.

You could just research about it a bit on Google and get to know about the previous records for GRE ISB admissions.
