IIT Bhubaneswar ECE department had 86% placement in the year 2019. Students were offered a salary package of 8-11 lakhs per annum.
IIT Dhanbad ECE department has not seen better results in placement like IIT Bhubaneswar, as there was 60% placement from ECE in 2019. IIT Dhanbad is more popular for Mining Engineering with a placement percentage of 91%. ECE is IIT Dhanbad may not be a good choice.
IIT Patna ranks 26th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. It has seen the placement in the EEE department by more than half the number of students. Among 42 students 27 were placed from the EEE department with an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum. Top recruiting companies included Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Mediatek, etc.
IIIT Bangalore is a Private institute and receives 100% placement. It offers internships as well as full-time employment. IIIT Bangalore has an MTech program and a dual degree program in CSE. The average salary package in 2018 was 17 lakhs per annum which is comparable with the older IITs.
All these institutions have their own pros and cons, so it’s difficult to determine which is the best choice.
IIT Patna takes admission for M.Tech in Civil Engineering through the GATE exam. Candidates should have aggregate marks of 60% and above in their Bachelors’s. The GATE cut-off was about 450 for Civil Engineering in 2019. The total number of seats available in the institute are only 18-19.
The placement drive gives good opportunities to the students and the highest package in 2019 was INR.38 Lakh/year offered by Microsoft , followed by INR.35 lakh/year by DE Shaw, also reputed companies like Samsung, Uber, LinkedIn, Force Motors, L&T, Capgemini, TCS, Wipro, Amazon are the top recruiters.
IIT Bhubaneswar also needs candidates to clear the GATE exam with a good score along with aggregate marks of 60% and above in Bachelors. The total intake is about 18-20 only. The course fee is about INR 2.31 Lakh approx per annum. In 2019 the highest placement offer was around INR 39 Lakh per year and the average job package offered was INR 11.44 Lakh. PSUs like ISRO, IOCL, NCCBM recruited students from IIT Bhubaneswar. There was about 68% of total placement for M.Tech 2019 batch.
Both the IIT’s are top reputed institutions known for academics and good placements.
For Mechanical, IIT Gandhinagar will be the best option among the institutes mentioned. IIT Indore is also a decent option. You shouldn’t consider the other IITs for the Mechanical branch.
Reputed companies like MRF, EY, Deloitte, Hyundai, and many renowned start-ups recruit Mechanical students from IIT Gandhinagar. According to the highlights of IIT Gandhinagar placements, Mechanical students get an average CTC of INR 6.5 LPA.
IIT BHU CSE is better than IIT Patna CSE due to many reasons. First of all, the coding culture at IIT BHU is unparalleled. Although the coding culture at IIT Patna is quite revered, it still does not match IIT BHU. The institute(IIT BHU) also conducts Tech fests(Codefest being a prominent fest). Codefest has been successful in creating a competitive milieu for coding by inviting students from all over the world. The seniors at IIT BHU are very helpful and provides guidance.
An underpinning feature of IIT BHU is the Internship opportunities that it provides for students. The overall infrastructure of IIT BHU is also better than IIT Patna. While NIRF rankings(2019) rank IIT Patna at an overall rank of 22, IIT BHU is ranked at 11. The overall placement performance and scenario of IIT BHU also better when compared to IIT Patna. In 2019 a total of 66 students were placed with average packages ranging from 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA from CSE in IIT BHU. However, the 2019 placement highlights of IIT Patna revels 50 students from CSE got a placement with an average package of 13.5 LPA.
IIT BHU also has a vast number of alumni as compared to IIT Patna. Many alumni from IIT BHU CS have secured high echelons in eminent MNCs and PSUs. While some have placed themselves in reputed companies or opted for startups, others pursued further studies in reputed universities of the world. However, considering all the factors, CS at IIT BHU is definitely a better choice as compared to CS at IIT Patna.
Despite being a new IIT, IIT Bhubaneswar stands out in terms of Placement. The average CTC of IIT Bhubaneswar was 11.5 lakh/annum in 2019. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, IBM, etc visited the IIT Bhubaneswar campus for last year’s placement drive. The highest CTC offered was around 39 lakh/annum. Almost 70% of the students got placed from all departments in 2019.
Apart from studies and placement, IIT Bhubaneswar is also very rich in its culture. A lot of cultural workshops, events are performed on the campus which encourages the students to showcase their talents. The student council arranges various extra-curricular, technical, and other activities around the year to motivate the students further to perform well not only in their activities but in their academics. They preserve great faculties on their campus in all the departments. The hostels are newly constructed with single occupancy. IIT Bhubaneswar is expanding and improving over time.
If we compare IIT Patna with the same then in terms of placement, it is not behind. According to 2019 placement highlights the average package offered was 13.5 LPA. The highest package of 2019 was 38 LPA. When the infrastructure is concerned it cannot be compared with the old IITs but they are well diversified. For all the branches the faculties are really good here. IIT Patna also maintained the culture of IITs by grooming their students for cultural activities or sports. They also conduct different sorts of workshops. Hostels are equipped with basic amenities and all the requirements are within walking distance from the campus whether foods or railway stations. A hospital is also there on the campus for medical emergencies. IIT Patna has a huge library equipped with over 10000 books and journals, and various online resources.
Both IIT Patna and IIT Bhubaneswar good IITs, so it is hard to pick one institute over the other.
All mentioned institutes were founded in the year 2008 except IIT Indore which was founded one year later in 2009. Reputed companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung, Cognizant, Amazon, Cisco offer jobs to students of these institutions.
The CSE branch at IIT Indore is comparable to the CSE branch of older IITs. Also, it is the highest recruiting branch at IIT Indore with more than 98% of students were placed in 2019. An average package of 16.06 LPA and the highest package of 43 LPA was received in the year 2019. IIT Patna recorded 100% placement for the CSE branch with an average package of 16.76 LPA. The highest package received was around 40 LPA (on-campus). Similarly, 100% placement was recorded in the CSE branch of IIT Bhubaneswar with an average package of 11.44 LPA. The highest domestic CTC offered was 39 LPA in the year 2019.
Apart from placements, CSE department of IIT Indore has 15 research laboratories such as AI (artificial intelligence), Computer Networks, Soft Computing, Database, and Information system. The coding environment of IIT Indore is very good. That is why its CSE department has ranked 4th in all over India. IIT Patna also has a Software lab, Network security lab, Advance lab, and Hardware lab. Among new IITs, IIT Indore and IIT Patna have come a long way in CSE branch. The CSE department of IIT Bhubaneswar is also equipped with research laboratories such as Systems Laboratory, Algorithms Laboratory, Computer Architecture Laboratory, Digital Signal Processing and Embedded Systems Laboratory. The department also offers specialized elective courses such as Software reliability, Artificial Intelligence.
IIT Indore has an edge over these institutions for CSE. But which IIT you should choose is entirely up to you so make the decision according to your convenience.
No particular brand is better than the other as it all depends on your own preference and inclinations. One needs to stop thinking that mechanical is the most demanded branch. In my opinion, every branch is important and has the scope to attract people who are passionate about it. Hence it is illogical to say that one branch is superior to another.
I suggest you go for a branch not because it has scope but because you are genuinely interested in that branch and are ready to pursue a career in it. For instance, my brother chose mechanical engineering not because he thought it had a higher scope than mining, but because my father himself is a mechanical engineer and he wanted to continue the legacy.
Rather than following the sheep mentality and choosing a certain branch, you can refer to the following options
