How is M.Tech in CSE from NIT Jamshedpur?
NIT Jamshedpur, for any student, can be a good choice. However, it can be a good choice only if there is no further option left. In all the options that you have, the first try you should ever have is to enroll in IITs. On the other hand, if not IITs, then your second try should at least be for absolutely any tier-I NITs, such as the ones in the South.
Although, when you run out of your choices between institutions like IITs and tier-I NITs, then choosing NIT Jamshedpur as your last option is not considered overall a very bad choice.
NIT Jamshedpur is an institute that comes with brand value, which mainly is its USP. It is fundamentally well renowned across everyone for the CSE department, which has rather earned its name for being the most sought branch in the whole institution.

There are several companies, such as INTEL, and DELL that recently have approached the institution with propositions to provide students internship opportunities. It is rather good news for NIT Jamshedpur.

Core branches like Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy and Civil receive decent placements. L&T, St.Gobain, Bridge and Roof Corp, Vedanta and ECC offer decent packages to B.Tech Civil students. Most analytics firms allow Civil students to sit for placements, and offer decent packages as well. Capgemini is among the IT firms which allow Civil students, and offer decent packages. BPCL offers comparatively high packages, but allows only top 5 students to apply. JUSCO visits every 2-3 years and offers high packages.
Last year, 97.29% students were successfully placed from B.Tech Civil during NIT Jamshedpur placements. The highest package for the branch was 20 LPA, and the average package was 9.57 LPA.
Instead of just looking at the placement stats, you should also consider your interests and the future prospects of a branch before stepping into it.

You should choose NIT Jamshedpur for Mechanical Engineering. It has an impeccable Mechanical faculty. The professors have years of experience in the field. The placements are more competitive at NITs. NIT Jamshedpur placement highlights for 2021 show around 96% of Mechanical students got placed with an average CTC of INR 7.3 LPA. Vedanta Ltd, Tata Steel, Royal Enfield, etc. are some of the major recruiters for the branch.
What are the best branches at NIT Jamshedpur?
In terms of placement opportunities, CSE is the best branch at NIT Jamshedpur. CSE students bags the highest number of placements. Honestly, I don’t know if there is any bias between the students of IIIT Ranchi and NIT Jamshedpur. However, I can point out some common differences between these institutes that might help you get the answer yourself
- Infrastructure: NIT Jamshedpur has very poor infrastructure and the campus has 1960s buildings with poorly equipped classrooms. IIIT Ranchi on the other hand has air-conditioning and hygienic learning conditions.
- Curriculum: IIIT Ranchi has a CS-tailored curriculum whereas NIT has diverse branches so the curriculum is quite different.
- Campus life: Both the institutes have an active campus life with NIT Jamshedpur having a slight advantage in terms of the students-run clubs like RAYS, DAKSH, REVANTA, DRIFT, etc .
- Crowd: IIIT Ranchi has no Home State Quota so the crowd is much more diverse and talented than NIT Jamshedpur.
- Hostel: The hostel and mess facilities of both institutes are similar.

How are the food facilities at NIT Jamshedpur?
The details about the food facilities in NIT Jamshedpur are as mentioned below.
Mess Food Facilities
- The quality of the mess food is average and is not the best. However, the provision of good food increases as you become a senior in the department.
- The mess provides non-vegetarian food items five times a week. At the same time, vegetarian food items are not quite as good as non-vegetarian items.
- The best meal, however, in the mess is its breakfast.
- The current mess rate is Rs.15000 per semester.
- The students who are residing in the Mega hostel have their meals in other hostels' mess. It is because the Mega mess is not functional at present, which mainly is a problematic scenario.
Canteen Food Facilities
- The food of the canteen area provides a wide range of items as it is a newly developed area. It can be anything from espresso coffee to special “thali”.
- If you possibly can, then have a brief glimpse at their menu card when you visit the canteen.
Private owners
- There are several private restaurant owners as well. The one among many, as also acclaimed by numerous students, is a hotel named Pradeep Restaurant on the campus which provides decent food items.
- Gupta hotel is another place where you can possibly obtain non-vegetarian food items at comparatively low prices.

Among these, NIT Jamshedpur is better. Being a centrally funded institute it offers better facilities. It has better brand recognition and industry presence. NIT Jamshedpur placements are excellent. The 2022 batch received an average CTC of around INR 13.2 LPA. Goldman Sachs, TATA Group, Amazon, etc. were some of the major recruiters to take part in the campus recruitment.
Compared to BIT Sindri, NIT Jamshedpur will offer you better academics, facilities, and placements.
What are the best placement stories of NIT, Jamshedpur?
This is an inspiring placement story of one of my seniors from B.Tech CSE at NIT Jamshedpur. He is a dedicated, talented, and hardworking person.
In 2015, Amazon visited the campus to recruit interns. This senior of mine applied for the internship, along with others in the department. He cleared the written round and the 1st technical interview. But he failed to clear the 2nd technical interview. So he was not among the 5 students who secured the intern position.
A year later, Amazon visited again with a full-time software development engineer position. This time the guy was determined to crack the test. He was one of the only 2 students who cleared the written round and 4 technical interviews. So this time, he secured the position at Amazon.
Amazon offers one of the highest packages at NIT Jamshedpur. This guy cleared its difficult test against all odds. He cleared the test in 2016, and joined the company precisely one year later, after completing his B.Tech.
This guy enrolled at NIT Jamshedpur in 2013. His roll number contained the number 13, and so did his hostel room number. It feels like 13 is his lucky number after all!
How is metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur?
Every year this dilemma strikes most of the students whether to opt for a good NIT but not the branch of choice or branch of choice at any NIT. What you should know is apart from the top five NITs, all the other NITs are equivalent. Therefore, go for the branch of your choice.
Now, answering that question that has been asked:
- Academics: The faculty of the metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur is good. They provide a good amount of and appropriate content for the courses. There is not much pressure on large assignments. You can take out time for other interests that you have apart from engineering.
- Placement: NIT Jamshedpur provides ample opportunities. Companies like Tata Steel and Vedanta Steel are the leading recruiting companies from the metallurgy department. You will also get a lot of opportunities in the non-core sector. Groffers, ZS Associates, Future First also recruit.
Looking at the placements, the Metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur has been better when compared to other NITs.
You can go for metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur but, I will also suggest you give more preference to the branch of your choice.
How is the placement in NIT Jamshedpur for mechanical?
NIT Jamshedpur offers a good placement for B.Tech Mechanical. The students receive placement offers both from IT and core companies, for good enough packages.
Some of the companies that recruit Mechanical students from NIT Jamshedpur are- TATA, John Deere and JK Tyres, among others. BPCL recruits the department students at high packages, and so, it has a special place in this list.
During 2023, B.Tech Mechanical recorded 100% placements at the college. The highest package was 21 LPA, and the average package was 10.25 LPA for B.Tech Mechanical, for that placement season.
Thus, NIT Jamshedpur offers good placements for its Mechanical branch.
