Is polymer science and engineering good in CUSAT?

AS
Ananya Shankar Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

The program of Polymer Science and Engineering offered by CUSAT is one of the best in the country. The department of Polymer Science and Engineering is very old and well established. For my cousin, joining the course has been one of the best decisions that she ever made for her career.

  • The alumni of this department of CUSAT are working in many major polymer-based companies.
  • Only a few institutions in India offer this course to students who wish to pursue Polymer Science and Engineering.
  • The course is more concerned about the fields of sciences rather than engineering.
  • The faculty members of the institution are very well qualified and experienced in their respective fields.
  • The majority of the students who get enrolled in this program get recruited by companies in the Tyre industry.
  • Since the intake of students is limited, which is around 20 students each year for bachelor's, the relationship which develops between the different batches and the faculty members is very strong.
  • The placement cell of the University is extremely active and provides full support to the students during recruitment drives.
  • Some major recruiters include Reliance Industries Limited, SRF Limited, Apollo Tyres Limited, and CEAT Ltd.
Categories Polymer Science Engineering at CUSAT
Course Fee 70,560
Course Duration 4 years
Highest CTC 8-10 LPA
Average CTC 3.5-5 LPA

I think this would help you in understanding the program of Polymer Science and Engineering which is being offered by CUSAT in a better manner.

CUSAT is worth spending your 2 years of MBA. School of Management Studies, CUSAT is one of the most reputed B-schools in Southern India, therefore considered a very good place to study.

The campus is quite large and welcoming along with the quality education. The college owns an ample amount of well-qualified faculty members, thereby giving you complete knowledge regarding the particular field.

The placements earlier were organized for a particular field. But now, there is a single placement cell and a placement officer heading it. This has increased the placement offers for the students.

Numbers of offers made 300
Number of students placed 306
Highest CTC offered INR 15 LPA
Average CTC offered INR 4.7 LPA

The environment of the college gives you a chance to work for your holistic development along with the curriculum. Also, the college offers decent placement opportunities in the most prestigious companies across the country.

What can I do after doing an integrated M.Sc in photonics at CUSAT?

SJ
Shekhar Jha Posted On : July 20th, 2021
M.Sc. Photonics, University of Madras (2018)

There are two options that you can pursue after an integrated M.Sc in photonics at CUSAT.

Industry Jobs - The jobs offered by the photonics industry of India are mostly sales. Yes, there are jobs in the telecommunications industry especially in the fiber optics sector which could fetch you some very good technical roles as well.

Research - Photonics is one of the very interesting topics to research upon. The field offers some very good opportunities in India as well as abroad. However, very few educational institutions in India have a photonics department and they also prefer physics students when they hire their professors. So getting a teaching job may also become difficult.

Anyway, if you are really interested in the subject then nothing should come between your choice because opportunities will appear over time.

What is the Best & Worst of studying at CUSAT?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : February 24th, 2024

Like any other institution, CUSAT has its own pros and cons.

Here is the best and worst of studying at this university-

Best-

  1. CUSAT at one point, was to become a central university. It has a high reputation, especially in the eyes of the older generation.
  2. Studying at CUSAT is a great opportunity to be exposed to the rich culture of Kerala.
  3. The university ground is huge, and the Basketball court is fully filled in the evenings.

Wrost-

  1. The teaching lacks enthusiasm and spirit. The classroom lectures are a waste of time.
  2. The academic calendar is not properly followed.
  3. Some teachers are not student friendly at all. They have a bit of an ego problem.
  4. The attendance criteria is much hated by all students.
  5. It is a lot of work to even get an application approved. The office staff is very inefficient.
  6. The uniform makes things very dull and monotonous.

These are just some of the goods and bads of CUSAT. Overall, the time spent at this university is filled with unforgettable experiences and cherished memories.

Which branch will I get in CUSAT with a rank of 1,820?

HK
Hanumant Kumar Posted On : February 23rd, 2024

First and foremost, congratulations on achieving a good rank in CUSAT. You can get any branch in SOE, other than CS or Safety and Fire Engineering. In case you wish to go to CUCEK, you’ll get any branch at that campus.

However, SOE offers much more facilities and exposure in comparison to CUCEK. I would recommend you choose your branch after thorough consideration.

How is placements for naval architecture and ship plaining at DoST Cusat?

SR
Somlata Ray Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

According to one of my cousin’s personal experiences, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding is a very innovative course that a student can pursue, therefore get a chance to explore many different things.

If you are interested in pursuing DoST CUSAT, then there are ample opportunities that you can get. Not only in terms of education but the college provides an excellent placement to all the students. But at the same time, you should be aware enough to grab the opportunities and work very hard to achieve the targeted career opportunities.

There is a group of well-qualified faculty members who prepare you for all your future endeavors so that you can make the best out of yourself. Not only academics but they give you hands-on experience to the particular that is very helpful for you during your placement interviews.

The placements are quite decent in which many prestigious companies across the country as well as from many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and various other countries participate. But due to the oil crisis, the placements were a little dull during the past one to two years. If we look at the overall placements they are good.

Number of students placed 21
Highest CTC offered INR 24 LPA
Average CTC offered INR 10 LPA

Therefore, we can conclude that the placement opportunities for Naval Architecture and shipbuilding are very attractive to opt for.

Why is CUSAT so popular even if it ranked 55th among engineering colleges?

AR
Ankur Rai Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
B.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2019)

There are several reasons why CUSAT is popular even though it is ranked 55th. My friends from the institute were able to provide a few such reasons which are as follows.

  • A lot of proposals have been made by MHRD to convert CUSAT as a Central University. But unfortunately, there are too many political issues that could not let CUSAT change into a central university.
  • CUSAT has distinct departments such as Naval Architecture, Department of Photonics, Polymer and Rubber Technology, Marine Engineering, etc.
  • CUSAT is very strict in terms of its academics and research. And that discipline is carried out by CUSAT students too. It helps them in performing well even outside the campus. And helps them to grow in their career.

So, yes CUSAT is popular among engineering students. Because of its discipline, strong academics, and research culture.

Why is the syllabus of CUSAT University considered to be the most rigorous compared to other universities in Kerala?

SG
Satadru Ghosh Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Studied at Cochin University (2019)

CUSAT is one of the known Universities in Kochi and known for its culture for its strict curriculum and fests and clubs.

Now as you asked for the syllabus particularly, it is much vast and it digs deep into the topic. As per the students here, you have to study more for any topic when compared with other universities.

  • The evaluation process is very strict. You will be required to score at least 45 marks to pass out of 100.
  • Because of this rigorous process, a degree from CUSAT is regarded as more valuable than a degree from other universities.
  • CUSAT cannot be compared with the other universities as it is a scientific University and various researches are going on.

As a national University, it has to keep itself with the level of IITs and NITs. Though, the syllabus is wide in Engineering and evaluation is strict and careless, so marks are hard to come by.

Is CUSAT a good college?

AB
Ahalya Bose Posted On : March 31st, 2023
Studied at Cochin University (2019)

If you're considering CUSAT for your engineering degree, here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • CUSAT is a good college overall, but the quality of placements can vary depending on which branch you choose.
  • The CS, Safety, and Fire branches tend to have good placements, while Mech, Civil, and Electrical branches have poor placements. If you're in one of these branches and want a good placement, you may need to consider switching to an IT company.
  • If you're from North India, you may find that college life at CUSAT is particularly enjoyable compared to other colleges.
  • For most engineering degrees, it's better to get into one of the government colleges. However, if you're interested in Safety, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering, CUSAT is one of the best colleges in the country for these disciplines.
  • The syllabus and course content at CUSAT is excellent, which is a major advantage if you're interested in pursuing an engineering degree.

Overall, if you're looking for a good engineering college in India and are interested in one of the specific disciplines mentioned above, CUSAT could be a great choice for you. Just be aware of the potential differences in placements across different branches, and consider switching to an IT company if you're in a branch with poor placements.
