Yes, students of IIT Guwahati MTech Computational Mechanics get placed in both core and non-core companies with decent packages. These students are allowed to sit for almost every core company that visits the IIT Guwahati campus. In Fact, there are many companies that prefer CM students over students from other branches.

The placement percentage is around 60–70% considering placement statistics of the past few years. There are many students who embark on a career in research through Ph.D. in foreign universities. Getting recommendations from IIT Guwahati’s professors will make your OhD easier.

IIT tag will fetch you jobs off campus too, so don’t worry, you will end up with a job either way.

Which is better for mtech in mechanical engineering between nit trichy or iit guwahati?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : May 5th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

The better option depends on what your purpose and life goals are and what you want from your Master.

If you want to pursue a career in research (PhD) the best option for you is IIT Guwahati. Being one of the oldest and most highly reputed IITs, it has high credibility and will fetch you Ph.D. interviews much more easily. Additionally, IIT Guwahati also offers immense exposure through foreign exchange programs. IIT Guwahati has collaborations with various reputed universities and can be preferred over NITs.

However, if it's the jobs you are after, then NIT is a better option as it’s more accessible to employers. Still, IIT Guwahati will always be my first preference. Be it a job or higher education, IITs always give an edge to other engineering institutes.

How is the placement of an MTech in mechanical engineering from SVNIT, Surat? Does core companies offer placement to MTech candidates?

AS
Amit Sharma Posted On : January 6th, 2024
Studied at NIT Surat

The placement is not good for M.Tech courses. Pursuing an M.Tech from SVNIT is a better option if one wishes to prepare for competitive exams simultaneously. Taking out time for preparation isn’t difficult if one is focused and disciplined.

In 2022,18 students were successfully placed on campus from M.Tech Mechanical. The highest package was 9.42 LPA, the average package was 6.86 LPA, and the lowest package was 5 LPA. As for M.Tech Manufacturing, 21 students were successfully placed on campus. The highest package was 9.58 LPA, the average package was 6.29 LPA, and the lowest package was 4.80 LPA.

Some M.Tech specializations like Computer Science, Communications System, CAD/CAM and Structure receive a few core companies for placements. But that number is far from satisfactory. Moreover, very few people are selected for these jobs. Mechanical, Thermal System Design, SMFE and MSc. Physics, mainly receive teaching offers.

Thus, the placements for M.Tech Mechanical are not satisfactory at SVNIT.

How is IIT Guwahati for an MTech in mechanical?

SG
Sohini Ghose Posted On : May 5th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati

IIT Guwahati is one of the premier institutes in India for engineering and its MTech program in mechanical engineering is considered to be of high quality, with a strong faculty, good infrastructure, and a well-rounded curriculum. The program is also known for its research-oriented approach, which allows students to work on cutting-edge projects and gain hands-on experience.

MTech Mechanical has 5 specializations, namely

  • Fluid-Thermal
  • Machine Design
  • CAM
  • Aerodynamics
  • Computational mechanics

My knowledge is only limited to Fluid and Thermal although all other specializations have similar scenarios.

  • Placements: The placement scenario is decent with 60-70% placements and an average package of around INR 8 to 9 LPA in the core field.
  • Higher Education: For those interested in research or higher education an MTech from an old IIT is better. The older the IIT, the stronger connections its professors will have. Ph.D. is all about connections. IIT Guwahati is a perfect choice with extensive research going on in the CFD area.
  • Preparing for ESE/ UPSC Exams: Irrespective of the IIT you belong to, you will have very less time to prepare for entrance exams.

Overall, IT Guwahati is a great choice for those interested in pursuing an MTech in mechanical engineering.

Should I attend counselling at IIT Guwahati for an MTech in mechanical admission?

AM
Anirudh Mukharjee Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG)

MTech in Mechanical Engineering comprises various specializations. The cutoff for each specialization varies. Usually, the highest cut-off is for machine design then fluid and thermal science followed by CAM and computational mechanics. If you are attending the counseling you have to specify the preference order among these four. So depending on your rank, you might get admission to a specialization you did not want to study.

I recommend that you attend the counseling and don’t make assumptions beforehand. Sometimes the wrong train leads you to the right destination. It’s better to explore all options to determine what’s best for you.

Should I choose a mechanical degree from the BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus or a CS degree from the BITS Pilani Goa Campus?

RS
Rittika Shah Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studies CSE at Shridhar University, Pilani (2021)

Prior to mentioning anything, it depends upon what your preference is. However, if you relatively require a faster or simply an immediate placement following the course, then opting for BITS Pilani, Goa (CSE) can be a superior choice.

  • The CS branch is comparably one of the most demanded courses and is on a severe hike in India.
  • It moreover has granted students the opportunity to obtain the highest entry-level package over and across India.
  • Given the factors, the Goa campus of BITS Pilani can provide you with all the necessities.
  • In fact, one of my friends is a recent graduate from the institute and frankly shares no amount of regret following his admission.
  • The Goa campus of BITS Pilani has recorded high selections for GSoC.
Categories Mechanical at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus CS at BITS Pilani Goa Campus
Course Fee 19.19 lakh 19.19 lakh
Highest CTC 21 LPA 29 LPA
Average CTC 11 LPA 12-15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Bosch, Mercedes, nVidia, Goldman Sachs, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, etc.

He preferred pursuing CSE at BITS Pilani, Goa over EEE at BITS Pilani, main campus. Now comparing your choices, you should undeniably plan to enlist at the Goa campus.

How is the M.Tech atmosphere (workload) in SVNIT Surat in mechanical engineering?

AS
Amit Sharma Posted On : January 9th, 2024
Studied at NIT Surat

The workload for M.Tech Mechanical students is quite manageable at SVNIT.

In the first year of M.Tech, one has to complete the coursework and attend classes from 8:30 am to 5:40 pm. In the second year, one has to complete the dissertation work and Teaching Assistant Duty (which is for 8 hours per week). SVNIT offers five M.Tech specializations in the related fields. These are- Mechanical Engineering, CAD/CAM, Thermal System Design, Turbo Machines and Manufacturing Engineering. The workload varies from department to department.

One gets ample time to prepare for competitive exams as an M.Tech Mechanical student over here. Most people in M.Tech Mechanical do not attend classes regularly, and instead prepare for their entrance exams. So you need not worry on the attendance front.

How hectic is life at IIT Madras for Mtech in Thermal Engineering?

AS
Abhijeet Sukla Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (2018)

The entire first year of an MTech in Thermal Engineering student at IIT Madras revolves around tremendous coursework. Once you have completed your first year, you are expected to select your guide for the research work you will be doing the next year.

The second year is also very hectic in which the entire 3rd semester is spent on placements and the 4th semester consists of thesis work. The entire program is hectic and it’s advisable to pull your socks from the first year itself, or else you will face problems during placements.

To get a good package from a good company, make sure your CGPA does not go lower than 7.5-8. If your basics are strong, you will spend less time doing your assignments and preparing for exams thus relaxing your tight schedule a bit.
