Is biotechnology in UIET Chandigarh any good?

Biotechnology is a tough choice as there are not many opportunities available to its students in India. If you are expecting good placement opportunities after finishing this course from UIET, then you will be disappointed.
But, if you want to go for research work after this then it is no doubt the perfect choice for you. Since not many go for this subject, you would have an upper hand. You will find students opting for this stream just because they didn’t their desired branch.

Which one is better IT in IIIT Allahabad or Biotech in IIT Roorkee?
- College wise - IIT Roorkee > IIIT Allahabad
- Branch wise - IT > Biotech
However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences.
First, you should make up your mind regarding the domain you want to continue with.

- Older IITs like Roorkee boast a longer legacy and are highly esteemed for imparting quality Engineering education.

- IIT Roorkee has better infrastructure and a bigger campus of 358.5 acres compared to the 100 acres of IIIT Allahabad.

How is Amity University, Gwalior for a B.Tech in biotechnology?
B.Tech in Biotechnology from Amity University is really good as it is a NAAC Grade ‘A’ University and approved by AICTE and UGC. Amity University is a fair option if you want to pursue your B.Tech in Biotechnology and the two main reasons are – Course and Faculty.
If you do not get into IITs or NITs then Amity can be considered as a good option. Almost all the colleges have the same curriculum and course, the difference lies in the type of placements and opportunities offered by the University.

Campus Life:
- A strict No Ragging policy is followed by the College. The College has a huge library.
- The University maintains a healthy gender ratio where the number of girls outweighs the number of boys.
- Various debates and quizzes are organized the whole year round for students to participate in. The famous annual fest – Amicroma is also organized by Amity.
Placements:
- Various internships are offered by the University but they are not paid internships. A student only gets a Recommendation letter.
- The highest package is around 15 lakhs per annum while the average package falls around 3 lakhs to 4 lakhs per annum.
- The placement rate for Amity is 97%.
Course Curriculum:
- The faculty is highly knowledgeable as everybody has completed their Ph.D. in the specialized subject.
- Various course-related activities are also conducted by the University.
Scholarship:
- The Scholarship Policy of Amity is very convenient. If you score between 75% to 88% in class 12, you can get a Scholarship of 25%.
- If you score between 89% to 94% in class 12, you can get a Scholarship of 50%.

Therefore, there were enough reasons to state that Amity is a good choice for B. Tech and the type of personality development offered by it, is very unique too.
Should I take a biotech PCT at DTU or a CSE at Assam University or any other private college? I have a keen interest in computer science but I want a good peer group and a good college life as well.
Choose the course you are interested in, as it will give you a comfort zone, once chosen the institute does not matter much.
- It is good to go for the brand value of universities, as they provide various opportunities later on.
- But you should not choose a branch only for the Institute.
- If you have an area of interest, you can go to any college.
- But it is better to opt for a course in a college which has a bit of a good reputation.
- When you sit for internships or placements, being from a related branch is preferred.
- You should keep all these in mind when you opt for any course anywhere.
If you are able to secure a seat in DTU, it should not be hard to get admission in a better college. So, you should try exploring other colleges preferably in the metros for the ease of networking and employment opportunities. Isolated colleges have their own flaws.
Can a student of Amity, Gwalior get a seat at Amity, Noida for biotechnology placements?
Yes, this is possible. Amity University has a centralized placement committee, the Amity Technical Placement Center (ATPC) along placement committees at every campus.
The Noida campus of the university hosts many top companies during its placement process and students across campuses participate in the process provided they have the invitation letters. There is no fixed seat.
As far as a Biotechnology course is concerned, then it has a very limited appeal among recruiters. However, you can still apply to various IT companies that visit the campus.
Being a student at Amity University Gwalior, you can definitely get a seat at Amity University Noida for placements, especially in the initial phase of placements. But it is always better to check with the relevant authorities to get a better picture and clarity about the various processes about the same.
Which is better: to get Biotechnology at IIT Kanpur or Mechanical Engineering at IIT Dhanbad?
First of all, IIT Kanpur does not offer Biotechnology, rather it offers Biological Sciences and Bioengineering. This is a good choice for those who don’t have any specific interests and are ready to study biology. In IIT Kanpur your CPI values much more than your branch. So don’t waste too much time deciding on one and just go for any of it.
Placements: IIT Kanpur has both core and noncore jobs in abundance. Core jobs are a bit lesser than non-core jobs with only a handful of core companies. However, the majority of recruiters offer non-core jobs for which the only requirement is a good CPI. Here, your branch does not matter and the role offered is nothing related to your branch. To a certain extent, non-core packages offered are better than core packages so most students prefer this.
Curriculum: The ocean of electives available to choose from at IIT Kanpur, makes it possible for students to explore much more than their branch. You are also eligible to do a major or minor in any other branch provided you fulfill its minimum CPI criteria. IIT Kanpur also has a branch change faculty at the end of the first year. All this flexibility makes IIT Kanpur’s curriculum a much coveted one.
Lastly, I would like to comment that your choice of Institute is also crucial. The opportunities and exposure offered matter a lot and IIT Kanpur offers it all!
Will it be wise to join a B.Tech program in biotechnology at Karunya University?
As one of my friends studied B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Karunya University, I might not be able to tell you much about biotechnology, but can provide a general overview of the institute.
- The university is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is surrounded by a lush green environment.
- The university gives an option of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which is a very good system to bring out individual talents.
- Also, you will get lots of free time which you can use for pursuing your interests and hobbies.
- The infrastructure is also quite good and there are a few good professors who are highly experienced.
- Placements are also good. CSE students received good job roles. But the Biotechnology placements may differ.
- If you choose to become a residential student, you will get even more time.

Which is better, ECE in Pondicherry Engineering College or Biotech in Sastra?
It depends on where you want to live and study. If you are comfortable staying in Pondicherry and are interested in ECE, go with PEC, which is one of India's oldest institutes.
On the other hand, SASTRA University is a more recent private prestigious university and it has great infrastructure facilities and placement record. BioTech in Sastra has IT placements with a lot of companies whereas ECE in PEC has good placement but is not that great.

How is biotechnology department of Heritage Institution of Technology in terms of facilities quality management and placements compared to the other branches like CSE and ECE?
The faculty and the labs are excellent at Biotechnology Department. Placements are also good. You will find many students in this department who are really very serious and good in studies ie. better than many students of ECE and CSE.
Most probably the all-department topper in our first semester was from the Biotech department. You may take it if you are interested in this subject.

In Heritage, placement means getting placed in the IT sector doesn't matter of any branch. Other branches can't be compared with others, as every branch has its own requirements.
How is the B.Tech biotechnology branch at Manipal University main campus?
Biotechnology is a budding branch that is good enough to get you working in the industry instead of the research field. The curriculum deals with industrial purposes like bioprocess engineering, design of industrial equipment,bio-reaction engineering, etc.
Despite the decent subject and scope, pursuing B.Tech biotechnology from Manipal University's main campus is not a wise thing to do. Here’s why
- My cousin has just completed his B.Tech in Biotechnology from Manipal University's main campus.
- According to his experience, the academics are great, the faculty is helpful, and the facilities are up to the mark.
- But the major downfall is that the placement scenario is not good.
- You have to accept the fact that you won’t get campus placement if you opt for this branch in Manipal University's main campus.
- However, the branch has numerous opportunities once you step out of the campus, and you can grab various outside campus placement opportunities.
All in all, Manipal University's main campus provides good academics and learning experiences for the biotechnology branch. If you are interested in research, you can do a minor specialization in genetic engineering and pharmacy.
