How good is MAKAUT for its students?

SB
Sushmita Banerjee Posted On : June 22nd, 2023
B.Tech from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University Of Technology

MAKAUT is an average university, especially for those who are extremely talented and want to get placed in core companies. All their talents will be left unharnessed here. It is bearable only for those who prefer mugging up the concepts o somehow make it into big IT shots like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, and Amazon.

Here are a few reasons why I will never recommend anyone to ever join MAKAUT

  • Neither of MAKAUT colleges is visited by Core companies except for KGEC and IEM. A few companies that visit are below average and offer poor roles and packages. The good companies that visit don't find any suitable candidates due to lack of proper education and thus leave without any offers.
  • The core streams are no good either considering the deteriorating infrastructure of most MAKAUT colleges. The colleges have two lathes out of which one might be not working for the Mechanical dept. and the electrical departments have broken motors and Circuit boards.
  • The core branches have underqualified faculty and are least interested in teaching.
  • The faculty dont encourage students to involve in project work and all the expenses related to projects are borne by the students alone.
  • The syllabus is vast yet very lacking and even if you study everything you will not be qualified to crack any government exam or interviews. The syllabus lacks the basic concepts of engineering and thus even toppers of MAKAUT find it difficult to crack GATE, ESE, and other interviews.

However, there are a few exceptional MAKAUT colleges like KGEC and IEM. At KGEC, the faculty and facilities of the mechanical and electrical departments are way better than other colleges. Also, here you get Government funds if you work on projects under HODs and some teachers.

Ultimately, MAKAUT is an affordable choice for Engineering in IT, Comp. Science, ECE, and related streams.

Can a lower-middle-class student afford to study in BITS Pilani or Goa?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 19th, 2023

Yes, a middle-class student can afford to study in BITS Pilani or Goa.

Though the course fees are a bit high for BITS Pilani or Goa there are scholarship opportunities for students based on their merit. Every student may enroll in a degree from an Indian prime institution thanks to several loan and scholarship options.

  •  For students who obtain the chance to study at prestigious institutions like BITS, banks provide educational loans to students even at low-interest rates. You may use a bank's credit to study, and then once you graduate, you can pay back the bank.
  •  Additionally, BITS provides its students with merit-based scholarships. According to a student's cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of a certain semester, BITS offers many degrees of percentage tuition waivers, including 25%, 40%, and 75%.
  •  BITS Pilani provides scholarships for its graduates and from other countries. For any of them to be granted to you during your term, you must apply through the necessary application processes.
  • Scholarships for Merit in BITSAT (BITS Online Admission Test):

The first year's (2 semesters) tuition is waived for applicants who completed the BITSAT exams with outstanding scores. For the duration of the whole four-year program, a reduction in the hostel expenses is also provided.

How good is the integrated circuits and systems M.Tech programme at IIT Madras?

AS
Anamika Sinha Posted On : March 29th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you are considering pursuing an M.Tech program in India, the Integrated Circuits and Systems (ICS) group at IIT Madras is an excellent choice. This program is considered to be the best M.Tech program in India and is even better than M.Tech from IISC or any other old IITs. Here are some reasons why:

  • Tie-ups with industries like Texas Instruments: The ICS group has tie-ups with various industries, including Texas Instruments, which provides students with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects.
  • High possibility of getting placed in Texas Instruments: Due to the tie-up with Texas Instruments, the chances of getting placed in this company with a salary of at least 16+ LPA are much higher if you build your concepts to a greater depth.
  • Impressive publication record: You can refer to the ICS group's website to see the kind of papers they have published. This indicates that the faculty are actively engaged in research and are contributing to the field.
  • High-quality teaching: The ICS group has uploaded videos of their courses on their website, which you can watch to get an idea of how well they teach.
  • Excellent placement record: IIT Madras has the best placement record, especially for Analog design engineer positions. This means that if you complete the M.Tech program from ICS, you are likely to have excellent job prospects.

Of course, studying at IIT Madras is not easy, and you will have to work hard to survive. However, the effort will be worth it, as your knowledge will be much higher than graduates from other IITs. It is essential to note that exceptions exist.

In conclusion, if you get the opportunity to study at IITM's ICS group, it is strongly recommended that you take it. Not taking advantage of this chance may lead to regret later on.

Which bus(es) should I take to reach Heritage Institute of Technology from Howrah station?

SD
Sriparna Dhar Posted On : September 27th, 2021
Studied at Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata

There are no direct buses running from Howrah station to Heritage Institute of Technology. You need to take a bus to Ruby then you can take a rickshaw to reach HIT.

  • Ac24 is the most practical option, to reach Ruby from Howrah. However, finding a seat on the bus is tough.
  • The cheapest option is S24. It costs 9 rupees from Howrah station to Ruby, but due to a large number of passengers, the bus is quite packed and inconvenient for college students.
  • If you prefer a more pleasant ride, take the E1 or AC1 or AC6 to Gariahat and then take another bus or vehicle to Ruby.
  • HIT provides bus services from Exide more. You may take a bus from Howrah station to Exide, where the bus will meet you and transport you to your college.
  • 107 and 107/1: These are some of the mini buses that go between Howrah station and Anandapur Ruby.

These are the ways by which you can reach HIT from Howrah.

Which would be better to take from NIT Trichy: instrumentation and control or production?

AB
Anirban Biswas Posted On : September 4th, 2021
Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (2020)

I know a little bit about ISI Kolkata since I have a few friends from the institute. Here is what you should know about the internships between semesters.

The course curriculum specifies that in the summer after completing your first year of M.Tech, you have to do an internship either in the industry or academia. You will have 3 options.

Industry:

  • Many companies that visit the Campus for placements of 2nd-year students also select interns for the same.
  • Some of such companies are Samsung Research Labs, Google, General Electric, Reliance, Flipkart, De Shaw, JP Morgan Chase, etc.
  • The average stipend offered last year was 65,000 rupees/month.
  • Some companies offer more than 1 lakh/month. One of my friends interned at Samsung Research Labs.

Academia:

  • As per ISI guidelines, you need to pursue an internship at a different academic Institute or industry.
  • A friend of mine went to NUS Singapore, while two others went to a university in Germany. You can also apply to other institutes in Japan, USA, and Europe. People also go to IITs, CMI, and other Tier-1 Institutes of India.

Within ISI:

If for some reason you could not get an internship in the above-mentioned ways, you can approach any of the 250+ faculty members across all 5 ISI‘s and can ask to work with them in their labs.

You will have internships at the end of the first year. In the second year, you will have placements, dissertation, academics. So, the only time left to do an additional internship is the winter break after the first sem. Unless you are extremely enthusiastic, I will suggest that you take a break during this period. Because after the break you will be swamped with coursework for 1.5 years.

Which B-school should I go EMPI Business School or NDIM?

NT
Nisha Thapar Posted On : June 27th, 2021
Studied Finance at New Delhi Institute of Management

EMPI Business School is the better choice, considering several factors such as curriculum, facilities, the atmosphere inside the campus, etc. The points below give a brief overview of the B-school and its advantages:

  • There is good interaction with alumni at EMPI Business School, which is very much beneficial for the students about the institute and industrial insights.
  • Most students are quite satisfied with the institute’s overall facilities and atmosphere, considering it a good place to study MBA.
  • The staff is very helpful to the students in every manner. The institute has designed its facilities quite well, taking the students’ benefits into account.
  • EMPI is a residential institute, having all the living facilities inside the campus itself. It is considered to be a very good place for studious candidates.
  • The curriculum followed by EMPI is very well framed. Apart from its normal classes, several competitions are made a part of the curriculum. These competitions are helpful for students to develop interpersonal communication skills and perform presentations in front of large crowds too.
  • There are industrial trips and excursions organized by the institute for providing industrial exposure to students. They are sent to mega plants and industries, for example- Yakult.

Therefore, considering the reviews from full-time EMPI students, it is definitely a good choice, providing an all round development in the management degree.

Which one is better: the K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering or the Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology?

PC
Piyali Chakraborty Posted On : May 10th, 2021
Studied at K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering

While choosing an institute the first thing you need to consider is the distance between the institute and your home. Except for this consideration, the overall rankings of these two colleges are quite close to each other But, if you don’t have any issues with traveling daily or staying in the hostel, then consider the following factors in order to choose the right institute.

Infrastructure:

  • Both of these institutes have good infrastructures.
  • You can visit the official websites of these two institutes to understand what type of infrastructural facilities are provided.

Placement:

In this case, your resume matters a lot to get placed in the on-campus recruitment process for both of these institutes. Here is the highlight of recent placement statistics for these two institutes.

Criteria

K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering

Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology

Highest CTC

24 LPA

20-23 LPA

Lowest CTC

6.5 LPA

3.7 LPA

Average CTC

3-3.5 LPA

3-3.5 LPA

Placement Statistics

75-85%

70-80%

University:

  • KJSCE is an autonomous institute, but VESIT is under Mumbai University so the former has an upper hand.
  • This autonomous identity of Kjsce helps to better design academics. Additionally, it allows the college administration to control the entire exam procedure, which is much better than Mumbai University.
  • Besides, the students also get an opportunity to do internships in the reputed MNCs, with a longer vacation. It looks good on the resume.

Sports:

There is no comparison of KJSCE with VESIT, as the previous one has an extraordinary football turf. This institute also has a good badminton court and a running track.

Campus: Except for the campus of IITB, KJSCE probably has the biggest campus in Mumbai.

Both of these are pretty good options so choose according to your convenience.

How good is SCMHRD for MBA in finance?

PM
Piyush Malawat Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
Studied at Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development

One of my relatives who used to be a student of SCMHRD feels that the course is directly proportional to the quality or effort of the students who are a part of it.

He has shed some light on the following:

  • Academics: The course curriculum can be a tad gruesome and it has more to do with finance as all the students are prepared to tough it out in finance. They will take some other specialization if not finance. So he advises the students and would-be students to prepare themselves. The course structure is similar to the standards of the industry and also on equal footing with other colleges of repute.
  • Placements: Major banks like ICICI, Citibank, AXIS, HDFC, etc come to the institute for placements. They may offer positions like relationship managers or credit analysis, etc. They can also offer positions like equity research in HSBC, verity solutions, credit analysis in JPMC, DE Shaw, etc. You will be able to choose from a wide range of domains.
  • Faculty: One of the teachers was CFA/FRM qualified. She had completed her CA, MBA, Ph.D., and was a banker.
  • Background: Most of the candidates are from an engineering background. Some are from the CA background, BBA, and also from the commerce background.

The institute also provides a good platform for appearing in various events of the institute and corporate events. It can be a good way to stand out from the crowd.

What is your review of Vasavi College of Engineering(Autonomous)?

RS
Riya Seth Posted On : August 18th, 2021
B.E Mechanical Engineering, Vasavi College of Engineering (2019)

The institute you decide to enroll in isn’t going to determine your growth. It rather depends upon what you choose to do. However, it is suggested that you join the institute based on your subject preference.

Here is a concise outlook of the institute:

  • The faculty of the institute is extremely proficient and knowledgeable.
  • Some professors hold Ph.D. degrees and are part of research in different departments.
  • It has a good library that comes with many books, journals, etc.
  • There are excellent placement opportunities for CS and IT students. However, it differs according to the market trends. The campus is visited by several core companies.
  • It also conducts sports, clubs, technical and cultural fests.
  • The labs are well equipped.

Disadvantages:

  • Security is very strict, you cannot go freely in and out of the campus.
  • The campus is small, including the sports grounds.
  • Hostel facilities are not up to the mark.
  • The interaction between juniors and seniors is very little.

Thus, make an informed decision. Go through as many reviews as possible before finalizing. As this will shape your career ahead.
