Which is better NIT Jamshedpur CSE or IIIT Allahabad ECE?

DD
Daisy Dhara Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2021)

If you are concerned about the brand then definitely go for IIIT Allahabad. But, if you are clear with your choice of stream you can choose either of them. If you choose NIT Jamshedpur CSE it’s good and so is the same with IIIT Allahabad.

I can share one of my cousin’s experiences, who passed out from NIT Jamshedpur.

  • When he cracked the JEE with decent marks and got a chance to opt between these two colleges; he chose NIT Jamshedpur CSE over IIIT Allahabad comparing few factors like placements, exposure and money plays a vital role here.
  • It is all up to you whether you want a tough competitive exposure or a light and cooperative environment.

Let me make it more clearly for you by categorizing engineering colleges:

Tier - 1

IIT B,K,KGP,D,M,R, BHU, HYD,BITS Pilani-Pilani campus,IIIT HYD, IIIT Allahabad, NIT K,W,T, DTU, NSIT, ISM(Dhanbad)

Tier - 2

New IITs like Mandi, Gandhinagar, Patna, DAIICT, BITS HYD, BITS GOA, BIT Mesra, IIIT Bangalore, IIITM Gwalior, NITs - Calicut, Nagpur, Rourkela, Kurukshetra, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jaipur, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Jadavpur University, IIIT Delhi, LNMIIT, Thapar university.

Tier - 3

Rest of the NITs

Tier - 4

Lower Level State Government Colleges.

Tier - 5

Amity, LPU, ITM, Manipal, SRM Main, GLA-Mathura, Galgotia, BML, SRMS, VIT, JNTU , BMS Bangalore , RV Bangalore and other private engineering colleges and other IIITs Like Vadodara etc and other top state government colleges.

This categorization might help you to decide. Also, skills do not depend on the branding of the building. It is something you learn eventually. Moreover, choose a college which has easy access to transport, shops, etc.

Also, if you see around there is infinite demand for highly skilled electronics engineers with impressive TopCOder and GitHub profiles. So, choosing either of the colleges won’t be a loss. But, if you have a specific interest in a particular stream like ECE in IIIT Allahabad or NIT Jamshedpur will prove a good choice too.

Should I take CSE at B.P. Poddar or go for CSE at Heritage Institute of Technology through the management quota?

RS

Heritage would be far better for your career than B.P.Poddar, in terms of educational facilities and campus infrastructure. The environment is good and the members of the faculty are helpful and nice.

I have visited both of these colleges and am familiar with them. If you want to have a fantastic college experience, Heritage would prove to be the best choice for you.

It could be a bit pricey if you use Management Quota. However, HIT offers good placement for CSE. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered at the institute was 4 LPA and the highest was 16 LPA.

What should I choose, VJTI for Computer Science or BITS Goa for Chemical?

A
Admin Posted On : May 13th, 2024

My friend also faced the dilemma of choosing between VJTI and BITS Goa. He ended up choosing VJTI because of the following reasons.

  • VJTI offers a renowned CS curriculum with a strong focus on practical learning.
  • BITS Goa may have a higher average salary during placement, but placements for CS at VJTI are also pretty solid. A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now in 2024. The highest package was secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA with the average package being INR 20 LPA.
  • VJTI has strong industry connections and easily offers students research and internship opportunities in top firms.
  • BITS Goa also offer most of such programs in dual degree format which may be uncomfortable for some students.
  • Mumbai being a tech hub can also be beneficial as VJTI CS students are to an ecosystem of networking opportunities and jobs.

How is the life of a computer science and engineering student at NIT Warangal?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 19th, 2023

You will have to work hard and get a good rank in JEE Mains to get admission into the CSE branch at NIT Warangal.

This is how life is at the CSE department of NIT Warangal-

First and Second Semesters-

  • As a CSE student, you will have to be good at programming. You will study PSCP which is C++.
  • If your CR is good at it, they can get you free lectures and this will buy you lots of free time.
  • You’ll get a lot of freedom at NITW. However, there is a hostel curfew of 9 p.m. for first-year students.
  • The first years have a common curriculum for all the branches.
  • You can learn online coding on platforms like Codechef, Hackerrank, etc.

Third Semester-

  • During your third semester, you will get plenty of coding assignments.
  • Dr. K Ramesh is a beloved teacher of CSE students. He has a teaching style of his own.
  • Initially, you will find Dr. K Ramesh to be strict. This is because he doesn’t tolerate it if you don’t execute the program within the stipulated time. But as time goes by, you will find him to be the best teacher at the CSE department of NIT Warangal.

Fourth Semester-

  • The fourth semester gives you lots of free time with most of the classes getting canceled.
  • You’ll find 4th-semester students at the movies, restaurants, cafeterias, and every other hangout spot.
  • You'll be told that the fourth semester is easy. However, it is not.
  • The fourth semester is filled with theory subjects.

This is my experience with the CSE department of NIT Warangal up till now. You will enjoy your time at the CSE department of NIT Warangal and have a great faculty by your side.

What advice would you give to a first-year CSE student at Thapar University?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 4th, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Here are a few simple pieces of advice my brother in his second year at Thapar University would like to give to first-year CSE students

  • Choose your company wisely as they will be your motivators and friends for 4 years
  • It's not necessary to hit the gym daily.
  • Prepare ED 1, ED 2, CP 1, CP 2, and  Maths 1 subjects well as they are extremely scoring and will help you upscale your grades.
  • Don’t get detained in Mechanics or Electricafor l.
  • In the first year, you can easily score an 8.5+ GPA by studying a week prior to your exams. So focus on exploring everything.
  • Score the highest in sessionals so that your burden in EndSem is less.
  • Don't be demotivated if you lack coding skills, rather work on them relentlessly.
  • You can sit for most companies if you score a GPA of 8.5+

Lastly, enjoy your college life, it never comes back!

How is computer science at IIT Ropar?

BM
Bhushan Mishra Posted On : September 8th, 2021
IIT Ropar (2020)

If there is one IIT that has the best student-teacher ratio among the other IITs then it is IIT Ropar.

Your placement is determined by the skills you have and the hard work you have done in your course. Students who have completed B.Tech in CSE have been offered packages of INR 18 LPA which is the highest for the students of the department and those who have completed their M.Tech in the same have been offered a package of INR 12 LPA, their highest. The percentage of placement was 84.96% in their last placement drive. The chief recruiters were Amazon, Google, Texas Instruments, Ericsson, etc.

You will find LAN and wifi available 24x7. It is like any other IIT. There will be professors you will like and some you will not. The coding culture is very developed in IIT Ropar. It may not have the benefit of location like some of its counterparts in other states do but it is close to Chandigarh.

What is better, IT in VSSUT Burla or in CET BBSR?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : October 12th, 2023

VSSUT and CET are both autonomous universities. Here are some insights on pursuing B.Tech IT at these two-

VSSUT is much older. This makes it a bigger brand. But in terms of location, CET is a clear winner. VSSUT is located in the small town of Burla.

Burla has no direct air connectivity, and the fastest mode of transport is a 6 hour train journey from Bhubaneswar. Thus, top recruiters hesitate to visit the campus for placements. But the placement stats are good. The students miss out on competitive events and internship opportunities because of the distance from Bhubaneswar.

CET is the only government institute in Bhubaneswar other than IIIT. More recruiters visit its campus during placement season. Samsung, Dell and Toshiba are some of the top companies that visit the CET campus.

In terms of academics, VSSUT offers a flexible curriculum. This allows IT students to opt for a few advanced subjects. CET on the other hand, has a rigid course curriculum. In any case, make sure to polish your coding skills for a successful career in IT.

To conclude, pursue your B.Tech IT from the institution that best suits your personal preferences.

Is Sharda University good when it comes to placements in B.Tech CSE?

RG
Rachit Gupta Posted On : May 25th, 2021
studied at Sharda University (2019)

One of my friends studied at Sharda University. According to him, your GPA will not be the only criteria that will be looked at when it comes to your placements. But, if you are planning to appear via campus drives, the first and foremost thing that would qualify you for this would be your GPA.

  • If your score is less than 7 you will probably not be able to sit at most of the companies.
  • It is also important that you have a 60% score throughout your academics.
  • Develop your aptitude and reasoning abilities as well. Most importantly, your communication skills will matter a lot.

Bosch, Global Logic, Dabur, Genpact, etc.

Among all the companies that visit the college, IT and Management visit in the largest numbers. Some of these include Indian Navy, Think n Learn, NTT Data, etc.

About 8 to 10 of these will have a pool campus invite. Around 3 to 5 management and sales companies.

The university also has the best TnP department and works really hard in order to bring companies to the campus. But many students are not that interested in getting placed. Because of this, the placement percentage is quite low.

What is difference between CSE and csd coures at IIIT Delhi?

JS
Jai Sharma Posted On : October 5th, 2023
Studied at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (2020)

If you have the option of choosing between a CSE and CSD course at IIIT Delhi, I will suggest you go for CSE. The only difference in these branches is the additional MS component which can be taken later if you want through a branch change.

CSD is a dual degree, meaning you will be awarded two degrees, a B.Tech in CSE and an MS by Research in CSE. It’s a research-oriented course wherein you will have to write research papers and an MS thesis. Students struggle to get their research papers published so the duration of the course isn’t fixed. Some might take more than 5 years to complete this program depending

Both programs are similar in terms of the job opportunities they offer and their curriculum. From the third year, CSD students have to take up an extra project every semester 3rd year onwards.

Even a CSE student can also opt for a B.Tech (Hons.) in CSE degree once he has completed two years of his course. He will be required to complete extra projects similar to the Dual Degree student.
