How do I get 9 CGPA in NIT Patna from 1st year?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 29th, 2023

Attaining a high CGPA of around 9 isn’t exactly very challenging at NIT Patna because the exams aren’t very rigorous and the competition is just average. All you need to do is attend classes regularly and maintain notes religiously.

The exam papers are usually not very tough. You just need to write the words of the professors exactly. If you ever come across a question that is out of the syllabus, then you can approach the professors and express your concern. Develop a good rapport with the professors and pay special attention to the classes.

A high CGPA of around 9 is very important for core branches because only a handful of core companies like BPCL allow very few students, preferably toppers for placements. CSE companies just need a 7 or 8+ CGPA for placements.

Is branch change possible in NIT Patna?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 29th, 2023

Yes, branch change is certainly possible in NIT Patna. To be eligible for branch change, you need to maintain a CGPA above 8.25 in the first year. When the college re-opens in July, the forms for branch change will be available and the students willing to get their branch changes can submit their applications. You will however need the following for a smooth branch change

  1. You will need original Grade cards for the first two semesters. For this, all you need to do is write an application to the academics for the same.
  2. You will have to fill out an application form, available on the website. You can list your preferences here.
  3. You will also require an application regarding the change of branch from A to B, that is signed by the HOD of the department and forwarded to the dean.

KS

Lived in Patna, Bihar, India (2017–2018)

Best is a relative term. Best in what aspect, academics or job opportunities? Here is a one-to-one analysis of each branch

Computer Science Department

  • This department is the best department in terms of placements and has the highest placement rate too.
  • The department also has an authorized international club IEEE

Mechanical Engineering

  • Placements-wise the department is average with companies like Tata, Maruti, and Havells visiting for placements.
  • A few PSUs like BPCL also provide decent job opportunities to its students.
  • The workload is less and you get a lot of free time. One can get good grades around 8-9 CGPA by just studying sincerely a few weeks prior to the exams.

ECE Department

  • This branch has many strict faculty who are very serious about attendance and academics.
  • The lab sessions aren’t very engaging although new labs are on the way.
  • Placements depend on your skills.

Electrical Engineering

  • The branch has surprisingly good offers from PSUs like BPCL.
  • The infrastructure of this branch is very old and so is the equipment.

Civil Engineering

  • NIT Patna was known for civil engineering In Fact the the main building of NIT is the civil department.
  • This department has great infrastructure and a faculty pool.
  • The placement scenario however is pathetic and most students have to resort to GATE preparation.

Information Technology

  • It isn't a separate department but just a few rooms and a hall.
  • They are usually considered to be a part of the CSE department.

Architecture

  • This department has an amazing infrastructure but the placement scenario is pathetic.

How is mess food in NIT Patna?

A
Admin Posted On : August 29th, 2023

I have a female friend at NIT Patna and from what I heard from here, the food served in the mess is satisfactory. Students are offered a variety of dishes but the food tastes decent.

Breakfast is the best meal with a different dish served every day. Some days it's Chole Batoore, while on other days it's Poha or Aaloo Paratha. Students are also given milk, a boiled egg, and an omelet for breakfast occasionally.

Lunch and dinner mainly comprise dal, roti, vegetables, salads, pickle, kheer, and Suzi ka halwa. The type of vegetable and dal vary everyday. I am also attaching a few pics of the lunch she ate during her time at NIT Patna.

In the evening students are given snacks such as tea and biscuits. Weekends bring in specialties like fish and chicken.

Is IIIT Lucknow better than NIT Patna?

SD
Saurabh Das Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Patna (2022)

If you're wondering whether IIIT Lucknow is better than NIT Patna, the answer is no. Here's why:

  • Age of the Institutions: IIIT Lucknow is a newly established institution, founded in 2015. On the other hand, NIT Patna has been in existence for over a century, with its foundations dating back to 1886.
  • Legacy and Reputation: NIT Patna has a long-standing legacy and reputation as one of the oldest engineering institutes in the country. It was formerly known as Bihar College of Engineering and was converted into a National Institute of Technology in 2004. IIIT Lucknow, on the other hand, does not have the same legacy or reputation.
  • Alumni Base: NIT Patna has a vast alumni network, which includes notable personalities such as the former Chief Justice of India, Rajendra Mal Lodha. IIIT Lucknow, being a relatively new institution, does not yet have an established alumni base.
  • Placement Records: NIT Patna has a proven track record of excellent placements, with its graduates being hired by some of the biggest companies in India and abroad. IIIT Lucknow, being a new institution, has not yet established a similar track record.

In conclusion, NIT Patna is a better choice compared to IIIT Lucknow. Its age, legacy, reputation, alumni base, and placement records make it a more established and reliable institution.

What did you learn from your BTech life in NIT, Patna?

AS
Aditi Sinha Posted On : August 29th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Patna (2020)

My brother recently passed out from NIT Patna and sharing his experience he told me about the life lessons the institute taught him. A few of them have been listed below

  • Don’t fear change in life as it may be uncomfortable in the beginning but will give you excellent results in the future.
  • Don’t stop yourself from doing kind gestures occasionally. Remember what goes around comes around.
  • The food in the mess is miserable so you need to be grateful for the homemade food you took for granted before.
  • The infrastructure and facilities do affect your opportunities and academics but only to a certain extent. Rest depends on your willingness and passion to succeed.
  • You will be surrounded with both positive and negative people. So choose your friends wisely.
  • Harsh circumstances only make you stronger.
  • As long as you have your priorities straight, pointers and academics mean nothing.

He learned a lot from his time at NIT Patna that made him a better person today.

Which one is better for CSE, NIT PATNA, IIIT Kalyani & IIIT Lucknow considering the last year placements of 40 lpa at Patna?

AM
Amrita Mehra Posted On : March 20th, 2021
B.Tech Engineering & Computer Science Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Patna (2019)

Someone else's package doesn't guarantee that you'll also bag the same package. Out of mentioned options, NIT Patna is a better option not because of the 40 lakh package. The placement package had been offered by Adobe which is said to recruit 2 ladies each offering 20 lakh packages to each. But in 2018, Adobe hired a female student offering her 40 LPA package, which can be true or even wrong information. However, you should not take admission in NIT Patna just because someone bagged a 40 Lakh package. The package will depend on your dedication during the course. It will help you easily earning a 6-8 LPA package.

While there is no doubt that NIT Patna is an old institution, yet it lacks some of the basic facilities such as hostels and open spaces. The campus is quite small as compared to other engineering colleges. So, it does not feel like a proper campus to some students as they have to spend 4 years there.
In the present time, a mega hostel is being constructed but it is outside the campus. The locality surrounding the campus is very unpleasant. The good thing is that the campus is located beside Ganga, having some modern and beautiful ghats. The management and staff are strict and less creative.

What are the living conditions in NIT Patna? Do first year students get into hostels? If not, are good PGs available nearby?

MC
Mayank Chowdhury Posted On : August 29th, 2023
Bachelor of Technology Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Patna (2019)

NIT Patna earlier known as Bihar College of Engineering is located in the heart of Patna amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. The campus, although a tiny one has a peaceful and serene ambiance because of the holy Ganga located in the rear of the campus. Moreover, the central location gives you access to everything in the city from shopping to exploring.

You will adjust to campus life quite easily and will develop a unique bond with the institute. Moreover, the authorities have worked very hard to improve the living conditions of the campus. For example,

  • The infrastructure is being renovated and many new labs have been made
  • Extracurricular activities are now given a lot of focus and a separate body SAC has been made for the same.
  • First-year students are allotted hostels on the basis of the rank secured by them in JEE Mains while others get hostels on the basis of their CGPA.
  • A typical hostel room at NIT Patna has 3-4 students living together. Some new hostels are also being made to improve the accommodation facilities.
  • Students are provided with facilities like 24*7 electricity supply, cool purified drinking water supply, high-speed LAN, and decent food facilities.

There are PG facilities nearby but they charge high rent and the facilities may not be at par with campus facilities.
