Karuna Verma Posted On : April 29th, 2021
B.Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2016)

NIT Jamshedpur is a tier- 3 Indian Engineering College and it fairs well compared to some other NITs like Raipur, Durgapur, Jaipur in terms of placements of Metallurgical branch students.

  • More than 100 companies pay a visit to NIT Jamshedpur each year to continue the recruitment. This number keeps on increasing every year.
  • Non-core companies are known to offer 6-8 LPA whereas core companies offer 7-8 LPA.
  • A number of companies such as TATA Steel, TATA Tinplate, Vedanta group, JSW, JSL, etc regularly take a part in the NIT Jamshedpur’s recruitment.
  • TATA is known to recruit a maximum of its employees from NIT Jamshedpur.
  • For the 2021 batch, the department witnessed 75% placements offers. The average package offered was 12 LPA.

Jamshedpur in itself is fortunate to have a number of steel companies and therefore the metallurgy students here have that to their advantage. The exposure, the competitive environment ensure that students obtain a number of opportunities for training and internships.

Moreover, this branch has a lot of scopes not just in our country but abroad too. Also, metallurgy is the oldest branch in NIT Jamshedpur.

Will dropping two years for the JEE and getting in NIT Jamshedpur (CSE) affect my placements?

AK
Aakash Kapur Posted On : April 29th, 2021
Studied B.Tech Civil Engineering at NIT Warangal

The majority of the companies will not pay attention to your gap years; instead, they will look at your abilities, strengths, and potential. Placements are more about what and how you fare in the four years of your engineering rather than what you did before that.

  • Some of the primary things that most of the top companies lookout for are communication, skills, potential, knowledge of your subject, technical know-how, and your approach towards the work. You should start paying attention and working towards all these factors.
  • You should try to focus and work on the things which are in your control rather than worrying about things that are not in your control.
  • If you have exceptional skills, prove your potential and passion to the recruiter, have the capacity to stay focused under all types of situations.
  • If you feel you are lacking in any particular area, you will have ample time to work on that prior to your recruitment process.

Make the best of this time available to you, take help and guidance from your mentors, speak to your seniors and learn from their experience and there should be no stopping you.

NIT Jamshedpur is among the top NITs of our country and is one of the oldest engineering institutes of our country. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider joining NIT Jamshedpur.

Academics:

  • The study curriculum of this college is very impressive and there is no load or pressure of studies or projects. There is no requirement of maintaining minimum attendance of 75%.
  • This makes the students remain free from their academic lifestyle and focus on developing other important skills.

  • The alumni base of NIT Jamshedpur is very huge especially in the core sector and the placements here are amazing too for almost every branch.
  • As this college has industrial and academic tie-ups especially with Tata, this really improves the placement scenario. This attracts a lot of companies and corporates to visit during placements.

  • The hostels are really good and are one of the best among NITs and IITs and all of them are renovated too.
  • Ragging is strictly prohibited in this college and it is almost nonexistent too.

The best way to determine the right choice between CSE at BIT Mesra or NIT Jamshedpur is to go through a comparative analysis of both colleges. Consider the following parameters

  1. Campus : BIT is a private engineering college so it obviously has better infrastructure and a well-maintained campus. Its location also is quite favorable in contrast to Jamshedpur. NIT Jamshedpur campus is also decent although not at or with BIT Mesra.
  2. Infrastructure : Both the institutes have well-equipped computer Labs and other facilities.
  3. Degree : BIT Mesra offers a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) whereas NIT Jamshedpur offers a degree of B.Tech (Hons)
  4. Placement : Most companies that visit BIT also come to NIT. BIT Mesra's average package last year stood at INR 13.01 LPA while NIT Jamshedpur's average package was recorded at INR 14.72 LPA last year.
  5. Ragging : NIT Jamshedpur has a ragging-free campus while there are rumors of ragging incidents at BIT Mesra.
  6. Fees: NIT Jamshedpur fees are much less in comparison to NIT Jamshedpur. The first-year fees at NIT Jamshedpur are 1.88 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) while that at BIT Mesra is INR 3,03,500/Y

Both the colleges offer similar opportunities with minor differences. So if you want the NIT tag, Hons degree, and lower fee then go to NIT, else BIT Mesra is the one for you.

How is NIT Jamshedpur for an MTech?

TM
Tanushree Mandal Posted On : April 20th, 2021
M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2019)

Here are some of the facts given by one of my friends who studied MTech at NIT Jamshedpur.

  • Academics are not very good and thus the pressure is also less in MTech. You should utilize your time and make the best use of it. You can study by yourself. Scoring good marks is not very tough.
  • You should try for IITs. If you don’t have any better option than NIT Jamshedpur then you should go for it.
  • NIT Jamshedpur is definitely better than some of the NITs. But there are some issues faced by students.
  1. There are still some accommodation-related issues.
  2. There is a lack of instruments in the department.
  3. Machines that are available need maintenance.
  • MTech is only best for the Computer science stream. The other branches are not up to the mark.
  • The students get to sit in most of the well-reputed companies in the placements. Internships are also provided to students. Other branches are sometimes allowed to sit with CSE in some companies.

The environment of students is good. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are present. The batch size is small. In a nutshell, it can be stated that NIT Jamshedpur is average for MTech.

Which among IIIT jabalpur CSE, NIT Jamshedpur ECE, Kurukshetra ECE, NIT Raipur CSE, NIT Hamirpur ECE, NIT Jalandhar CSE colleges is best ?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 4th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The choice of the branch is more important than choosing the institute because it determines and shapes your career. If you are interested in working in a PSU or have an interest in Electronics, choose ECE but if you have no such inclinations choose CS, the most diverse field. There are two main differences between IIITs and NITs

  • IIITs are relatively new and may not have a very extensive alumni network while NITs are aged old and have an elaborate network.
  • NITs provide diverse specialization in various fields while IIITs only focus on Computer Science education.

Based on the placement scenario and the academics, here is the preference order I would suggest you follow while making your choice

NIT Jalandhar CSE>IIIT Jabalpur CSE>NIT Raipur CSE>NIT Kurukshetra ECE>NIT Hamirpur ECE> NIT Jamshedpur ECE

It's important to note that this preference order is not based on any official data and is based on my own opinion only.
