Which is better IPM course in IIM Indore or B.Tech CS in DTU?

SV
Shubhangini Verma Posted On : August 27th, 2021
Studied at Xavier School of Management (2019)

IIM Indore and Delhi Technical University (DTU) are both very good institutes for their respective courses. The better option among the two will be DTU if the student is not interested in either the Management course or a tech course. A close senior of mine got a choice between DTU IT course and IPM course in IIM Indore and he decided to go with It course in DTU because: -

  • Placement in DTU is much better than IIM Indore for the past few years.
  • The IPM course is for 5 years whereas the IT course is for 4 years.
  • Students who want to pursue a master's degree like MS or MBA get a better opportunity and have chances of getting a good job offer.
Categories IPM at IIM Indore B.Tech in CS at DTU
Course Fee 26 lakh 7.81 lakh
Course Duration 5 years 4 years
Highest CTC 25-28 LPA 15-20 LPA
Average CTC 14 LPA 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies ICICI Bank, Nestle, Asian Paints, American Express, etc. Capgemini, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, etc.

The IPM course now has been converted into a degree course, But still, students usually prefer the 4-year B.Tech course rather than the 5-year long IPM course. If you want to study management after your class 12, then IPM will be a good option for you.

Can I get into CSE in LNCT Bhopal with a rank of 118,000 in the Mains?

KS
Krishna Srivastav Posted On : September 24th, 2021
B.E. Information Technology,Lakshmi Narain College of Technology,Bhopal (2019)

While a clear-cut answer to this question isn’t possible, here are some insights regarding ranks and admissions according to my friends who are currently studying there.

One of my friends is a final year student from LNCT pursuing B.Tech in IT. He secured a rank of 1,27,000 in 2017 but he wasn’t able to secure a seat in CSE Branch with that rank. Instead, he took a seat in IT in the 1st round itself. Yes, he didn’t wait for the 2nd or 3rd round. However, you can wait for at least the 3rd round to see if your chances increase for the CSE branch.

Secondly, it also depends on your quota. Most of the time it is quite impossible to secure a seat with such a rank without any quota. My friend who belonged to the unreserved category couldn’t get in even EC with a rank of 69,000.

In recent years the required cutoff for CSE at LNCT Bhopal was 83761.

At last, if you are looking forward to a bright future in CSE or IT, establish your skills in programming on your own. If you are dependent on your college for learning something such as programming, your chances of grabbing programming job profiles are less.

Which should one choose for studying, IITM or IIIT Hyderabad for CSE?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : August 1st, 2023

One of my friends has completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s in CS from IIIT Hyderabad and still suggested his younger brother go for IIT Madras.

He feels that IIIT Hyderabad certainly gives you an edge in getting placed initially but it restricts your prospects to a large extent. IIT Madras on the other hand gives a wider perspective and scope. Students get to learn specifics in their sub-field.

The lab facilities offered at both institutes are equally good. However, you can join as an intern/RA later in any of these institutes. So this affects the research edge in specific areas. IIT Madras seems to have better research options mainly because of its huge size.

Outside life shouldn’t be a problem in either institute because both are excellently located and offer a great urban life. So look at the vegged picture and choose wisely!

How good are the placements of Amity University, Noida for the CSE?

SS
Smriti Sharma Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
B.Tech-CSE from Amity University, Noida (2019)

Your placement entirely depends on your performance and skills. If you have developed professional and industry-oriented skills during your graduation, you are definitely going to be placed with a good package.

Impotent Factors:

  • Getting a good placement depends a lot on your CGPA. At Amity you will need at least 6 CGPA to be eligible to sit for placement.
  • If you have maintained your CGPA above 7.5, you are most likely to bag a good package.
  • In the other case, if your CGPA is around 6.5 but you hold a certification in some course, say Artificial Intelligence, or any coding language or have received some award or felicitation memento in an extracurricular domain, you are likely to be placed in a good company.

But if you do not fall in any of the aforementioned categories, you are likely to be in trouble.

Now let us have a quick look at previous years’ placement records for B Tech. CSE at Amity University, Noida.

Highest Package

18 Lac per annum

Average Package

3.0 Lac per annum

Major Recruiters

Ford, Microsoft, Yamaha, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Aricent, Genpact, etc.

To sum up, it is better to grow interpersonal and industry pertaining skills during college life in order to secure good placements. The University offers decent placement offers to the students. And you can’t blame the University if you fail to attain the requirements to get good placements.

Should I take up math and computing at IIT Delhi, or B.Math at ISI Bengaluru?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : April 5th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Whether you should opt for MnC at IIT Delhi or B.Math at ISI Bangalore depends on what you want from your graduation and your career prospects.

Academically both institutes are excellent and none is better than the other. So my answer entails the drastic difference in the curriculum and scope of the two programs.

Bachelor of Mathematics, ISI Bengaluru

This program has high-tech mathematical stuff and purely focuses on Mathematics. The Institute is smaller than IIT Delhi and ideal for those who have a single passion in life, Maths. The coursework consists of abstract algebra, analysis, probability theory, and so on. Additionally, it has compulsory courses in Statistics, Probability, and Physics as well. Although it offers some CS courses also, the program does not focus on Computer Science much.

Math and Computing (MnC), IIT Delhi

The curriculum of the MnC program is more inclined toward computer science than Mathematics. The program focuses more on applied mathematics, rather than pure mathematics. As a result, graduates from this course can start jobs earlier than those from ISI.

In a nutshell, if you are willing to go for higher education and research in mathematics, then ISI should be your goal. If you are a person interested in the practical application of concepts and want to eventually be employed in a company, then IIT Delhi is the best place for you.

Is civil engineering at NIT, Kurukshetra better than CSE (computer science and engineering) at PEC University of Technology?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

It's difficult to choose one between NIT Kurukshetra Civil and OEC Chandigarh CSE because both branches are different with diverse scopes and opportunities. You will have to consider a lot of parameters while choosing one of these

Personally I will suggest you opt for the CS branch unless you have any specific inclination towards civil engineering or any other branch. The excellent placements of this branch are not the only reason I am suggesting you go for it. The courses taught are rather easy and can be covered through self-study which may not be possible for Civil.

You are aware of the academic situation of most engineering colleges these days. Most professors have no interest in teaching. I believe that if you can get CS in PEC you can also get CS in NIT Kurukshetra. It has a better alumni network so it's a better option than PEC. Civil students will have options like research internships, masters or Ph.D. later, get into IES, etc.

Here is a comparison of a few statistics that might help you further make a well-informed decision.

Parameters

NIT Kurukshetra

PEC

Fees

1.6 Lakhs (BTech first year)

2.07 Lakhs (BTech first year)

Ranking

58 out of 200 in 2023

101 out of 200 in 2023

Highest CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

Rs 64.5 LPA

Average CTC

INR 13.89 LPA

Rs 13.5 LPA

Top Recruiters

ICICI Lombard, HCL Technologies, Microsoft, Adani Group

Microsoft, RBS, Goldman Sachs

In the end, your choice of college won’t matter much but how you spent your 4 years will.

Can I expect to get into CSE in Sikkim Manipal University (Sikkim branch) with a rank of 19500?

JS
Jay Sinha Posted On : August 13th, 2022
studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

SMIT cutoff for CSE stays around 19000. So, you will have a good chance of getting CSE. Even if you don’t get CSE, during the first round of counseling, you will have a good chance of getting admission during the waiting list counseling. Students applying for the Sikkim campus are less in number, so you have a good chance of getting admission.
