B.Tech Chemical Engineering,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2021)

It will be hard to get any branch at Heritage Institute of Technology with a rank of 80176 in WBJEE. Here are the 2021 cutoff trends for Heritage.

Branch  WBJEE Cutoff
Electronics & Communication Engineering  7752
Computer Science & Engineering  3214
Biotechnology  14684
Chemical Engineering  20546
Mechanical Engineering  23694
Civil Engineering  19809
Electrical Engineering  10192
Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering 13759
Information Technology  4090
Computer Science & Business System  7688
CSE (AI & Machine Learning)  4597
CSE (Data Science) 5331

It’s better if you start your preparation for next year by dropping a year. Aim for a rank below 10000. One of my friends took a year drop last year and jumped from 77000 ranks to below 8000. If he can do it, you can also do it. It is not impossible.

However, if you do not want to take a drop and anyhow want to take admission at Heritage then there is a management quota to help you out.

Can I build an appropriate profile for MS in USA while studying ECE in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata?

SK

Yes, you will be able to build up your profile appropriately at Heritage Institute of Technology. If you are interested in Antenna Theory and Microelectronics then, this could be a precious opportunity for you as they have their own IEE EDS Chapter.

Most of the lecturers are quite disciplined about organizing a research paper for students and if you’ll be a bit serious about your course then there are high chances of your paper being published.

Moreover, there were many seniors of my friend who gone abroad and some made up to Pen State.

Which coding language is taught in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata?

RB
Ritavari Banerjee Posted On : September 24th, 2021
B.Tech in Computer Science from Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2020)

I have a few friends from the Heritage Institute of Technology and according to them, if you belong to the CSE department, JAVA, C, and C++ are taught. You can opt for additional subjects like AI wherein you will be taught Prolog. JAVA, C, C++ are taught in other branches as well.

Having said that, you can learn any coding language on campus if you are interested. The coding culture at the campus is great. You will find many gifted coders there who can help you learn. You can also learn coding languages from open source platforms like Udamy, Coursera, geeks for geeks, etc.

How was your first day in Heritage Institute of Technology?

SR
Srinjana Raha Posted On : October 11th, 2021
Studied at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

Heritage Institute of Technology has a two-day orientation program called COMPASS which usually happens in the last few days of July.

  • There will be some lectures, professors’ introductions, etc. which honestly are really boring in the auditorium at the Central Block.
  • The seniors are really helpful contrary to what you may find in many other engineering colleges.
  • Ragging is completely absent from the campus and the seniors will actually help you during your first few days. They may ask for your introduction or have a general conversation to lighten you up

You might be asked to wear formal dresses, not to wear any belts, ties, watches, etc. for a month. The institute has a student-friendly environment and you will love your experience there.

Can I get into Heritage Institute of Technology with 22,000 GMR or will I have to opt for donations?

MS

This might sound weird but there are better colleges available with your rank. Most importantly, Heritage Institute of Technology won't admit you to any of the branches with 22,000 GMR. Hop onto the next best option because there's much more to life than a college.

Another great option would be Techno India, Salt Lake. It is a wonderful college, amazing with placements, and has an ultra-modern infrastructure. The location is advantageous as well when compared to HITs. Also, you'll get the Mechanical or the Civil Department there.

Regarding donations, I do not think there is such a process, nor would I support it if I knew. Work on your scores, get selected based on merit as it will be more helpful throughout your life.

Any college will be great if you are hard-working, so in the end, it boils down to you, college is what you make of it.

What are the big changes after Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata became autonomous?

SD
Sourav Das Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2019)

HIT Kolkata is a famous engineering college affiliated with MAUKAT. It has been ranked 154th in the NIRF Ranking for Engineering 2020.

According to the facts I got to know from the internet -The college became autonomous in 2012, on the recommendation of UGC by the West Bengal University of Technology (now MAUKAT).

One of the friends who graduated from HIT in 2015 reviewed that it did not affect their batch. The students affected by the change were those who took admission in 2012 or after. It is better to ask the alumni who studied during 2012. They will be able to give a brief about the big changes that happened in the curriculum.

Overall, the autonomous status provides elasticity in the curriculum and teaching methods.

How is the ECE lab at Heritage Institute of Technology?

SD
Samriddhi Das Posted On : September 17th, 2021
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2019)

One of my friends studied at the Heritage Institute of Technology. According to him, you will be able to use all the equipment in the labs.

  • There is access to transistors, wires, resistors, breadboards, chips, etc. The equipment can also be asked for if they are damaged or lost.
  • The labs are also equipped with the latest technology. However, there is no lab dedicated only to ECE at Heritage.
  • The department of ECE of Heritage boasts of having the best faculty in the state.
  • Apart from there, the individual computer centers are used for courses that are based on application and/or software.
  • Labs of other departments such as the Computer and Informatics Center, are where you will undertake courses related to the programming languages like C or JAVA, and DBMS or Database Management.
  • The labs in the EE department will be electrical for the Electrical and Power Electrical courses.

The labs for only specific courses contain equipment that can be necessary for individual domains. Some of these labs are:

  • Analog Electronics Lab
  • Microwave Lab
  • Basic Electronics Lab
  • Digital Electronics Lab
  • VLSI Lab
  • Microprocessor and Microcontroller Lab
  • Antenna Practical Lab

You can always count on the quality of the equipment available in the labs. Most of the equipment is new and gathered especially from the Analog Electronics Lab and Digital Electronic Lab. The Wireless/Antenna labs also possess equipment which is sensitive and well maintained. There is a drawback, sadly. The machines in the MicroProcessor Lab were found to be outdated, but they worked fine.

Is there any placement skill training in Heritage Institute of Technology?

AB
Arunabha Basu Posted On : September 27th, 2021
Studied at XLRI School of Business & Human Resources

Yes, there is. There will be multiple rounds of training, from the first year, you will get soft skills training, until the beginning of final placements in September of the seventh semester, when the college conducts particularly focused Group Discussion and Personal Interview Training.

At the starting of the 7th semester, there are special classes organized by the training & placement office of HITK and grooming sessions for getting specific skills that are helpful during placement. Heritage does have a Training and Placement Cell, and based on what I've heard from seniors, they do teach you in your final semesters so that you can succeed in things like Computer Programming, Written Aptitude, GDPI (group discussion and personal interview), and eventually obtain a decent job.

How is Heritage Institute of Technology?

VA
Vineet Agarwal Posted On : September 21st, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical from Institute of Engineering and Management (2019)

Heritage Institute of Kolkata is a decent engineering college. However, there are not many good companies that are visiting the campus for the placement drive. Mostly MNCs like TCE, Wipro, and Infosys visit the placement drive for mass recruitment. In the recent placement drive, the average and highest CTC offered were 4 LPA and 16 LPA.

If a student gets a placement in any of the companies then he/she would not be allowed to sit in the campus placements for the other companies. That means, if a student gets the placement earlier, then they can't apply for any other better companies that come later with the better packages. And you won’t know which company is coming for the placements beforehand.

The faculty is not up to the mark. Only 2% of the faculty is good, interactive, and friendly. The management of the institute is also not proper.

Therefore, the Heritage Institute of Technology is better for academics but is not so good for the placements.

Can I get a CSE in Heritage Institute of Technology with a 3 870 rank in the WBJEE?

SR
Shubhangi Rana Posted On : September 13th, 2021
Studied B.Tech Civil Engineering,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2021)

With your rank, it might be not possible to get CSE at the Heritage Institute of Technology. WBJEE Cut off for 2021 closed at 3198 for All-India Quota. Except for CSE, you can get any other branch at HIT or you can wait for further rounds.

Before opting for Heritage, you must know that the fee structure is quite high at the institute. Even if you are financially stable, it might not be a good idea to go there. The academic curriculum is outdated and the environment is not appropriate for engineering.

You will see rich kids joining the college, fashion parades, luxurious cars and etc. There is nothing as such engineering at HIT but only fun. This lavishness is all thriving in the city where there are majorly people who are striving for a job being in their thirties only.
