Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 20th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Both NIT Trichy and BITs Pilani are prestigious institutes offering high-quality engineering education. Moreover, CSE and ME are equally good with different opportunities and prospects. So the choice between BITS Pilani CSE and NIT Trichy Mechanical depends on what your preferences and career prospects are.

BITS Pilani CSE is a great option if

  • You want to join a top private organization like Google, Facebook, Quora, Amazon, Microsoft, etc
  • Your primary goal is getting high packages even at the cost of extreme work conditions and workload
  • If you have a strong passion for coding
  • If you have no financial constraints and can afford the high BITS Pilani fees.

However, NIT Trichy Mechanical is a good option if

  • You are looking for a stable Government job through UPSC Engineering Services Examination
  • You want to go for PSUs such as IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, etc through GATE
  • If you are a research enthusiast and want to work in a research-oriented government job as a Scientist or Engineer in organizations like RDO, ISRO, BARC, etc
  • If money is your secondary preference and you primarily focus on attaining a better work-life balance.
  • If you have financial issues and BITS Pilani fees are out of your budget.

Ultimately, it’s you who can decide the right college and stream for yourself. Just remember that these are just stepping stones to success and it’s you who has to work hard to become successful.

How is mechanical engineering at PSIT, Kanpur?

SD
Susmriti Dutta Posted On : January 20th, 2021
B.Tech from Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2019)

Mechanical engineering is not good in PSIT Kanpur. You will regret your decision of taking admission there. Following are the reasons why you should not join PSIT Kanpur

  • PSIT Kanpur has very strict rules and regulations and parents have to pay a fine for everything.
  • 90% attendance is compulsory, CCTV cameras are installed inside all the classrooms.
  • You cannot even sit and study in the library if you have some boring lectures going on.
  • You will not gain any knowledge even after spending 4 precious years.
  • PSIT Kanpur lacks a competitive environment for GATE, CAT, etc. If a student wishes to prepare for any competition exam, the college rules are so strict that there will be no time left for your preparation

Here’s presenting some facts about Mechanical Engineering at PSIT Kanpur -

Categories Mechanical Engineering at PSIT Kanpur
Course Fee 5.60 lakh
Placement Percentage 80-85%
Highest CTC 8-10 LPA
Average CTC 3.7-4 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Infosys, Wipro.

One of my friends qualified GATE with a respectable score that will lead him to do masters from IIT Bombay but believe me PSIT has no role in this. I even believe that if he would have done B.Tech from any other college then he would have got a better score in my final year.

Therefore whoever is planning to take admission in PSIT. I will suggest you not to take admission here.

Should I prefer JMI CSE or DTU mechanical?

RM
Rahul Mishra Posted On : April 16th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Delhi Technological University (2023)

Among the above two institutes, for students interested specifically in computer science, JMI CSE should be a better option. But, students having no specific preference in streams should consider Mechanical at DTU.

The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two departments of the institutes.

Particulars

CSE at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Delhi

Mechanical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU)

NIRF ’20 Ranking

28

36

Total Fees (B.Tech)

Rs. 64,600

Rs. 7.8 Lakhs

Median Salary Offered

Rs. 7.2 LPA

Rs. 9 LPA

Total Number of Seats

185

Key Highlights:

  • As discussed above, students interested in Computer Science and IT should take JMI CSE, which generally has some decent opportunities. The top 7% of the batch gets more than 7 LPA package salary in JMI CSE.
  • Students having no specific preference can choose DTU Mechanical, which provides a large amount of exposure inside the campus, along with several good opportunities during and after the course.
  • Students at DTU Mechanical usually get a 7.5+ LPA package offer in some of the best companies working in the core mechanical sector. The course of DTU Mechanical is considered to be one of the best in India.
  • JMI has much lesser fees than DTU, which makes it a lot of a more preferred option. For students successful in getting a decent placement offer at JMI, it provides a much better return on investment than DTU.

Considering all the above factors, both the institutes have their own set of advantages and are worth considering.

What should I prefer: Mechanical Engineering at HBTI, Kanpur or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

AL
Ajay Lakhra Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance.

  1. According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.
  2. Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them.
  3. If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about.
  4. The faculty of IET Lucknow is better than that of HBTI.
  5. You will have numerous opportunities outside the campus. The placement statistics for the mechanical department are not very good at both institutes, but placement in the CS department is extremely good.

Make your decision based on the branch and not the institution as it would have a major impact on your career.

Indrani Bhattacharya Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Management

IEM Kolkata is a very prestigious private college in West Bengal and it is basically known for some of its branches such as Computer science, Information Technology and Electronics, and Communication engineering.

Mechanical at IEM:

  • Few new branches including Mechanical introduced in the institution that has been added in the recent year.
  • The students do not have much of a college life. There are not any extracurricular activities.
  • There are only a handful of supportive faculties in these branches.
  • There are no proper classrooms, labs for the mechanical branch. The Mechanical engineering department is situated on the Management campus.
  • The students are made to follow some irrelevant rules and attend classes and seminars that have nothing to do with their future goals.
  • The course curriculum is not industry-oriented.
  • In placements, students are mostly placed in IT companies.
  • You won’t get much assistance for GATE preparation here too. Faculties are not very supportive and focus more on attendance.
  • Although, students of the Mechanical branch at IEM are doing a good job in student chapters like IEEE, ISHARE, etc.

The college is good for other branches but for mechanical, you should look for other options.

Should I choose mechanical engineering in IIT-D or CSE at NIT Surathkal?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 16th, 2023

Both Mechanical and CSE are good branches and offer ample placement opportunities. In this case, you should choose between the colleges.

IIT Delhi is one of the top Engineering colleges in India. They have the finest faculty, and IITD alumni have the highest number of unicorns in India. With an IIT tag, you can easily grab a job in top MNCs. Being an IITian opens great opportunities for you to pursue your higher studies at US/European Universities.

IIT Delhi Placements are top-notch. Even its Mechanical branch records an average salary close to 12 LPA. Several Finance, IT, and non-IT MNCs are open for every branch during placement season at IIT Delhi. So, you can switch to an IT career later on. For UPSC/GATE aspirants, Delhi is the ideal location.

CSE is a more in-demand branch at present. However, IIT Delhi offers much more opportunities to its students than NIT Surathkal. Therefore, I would suggest you choose ME at IITD rather than CSE at NIT Surathkal.
