One of my friends is in his last year and hasn’t experienced anything related to ragging. Although there might be some fun interaction with the seniors but no extremities that hurt.
Here are some insights of NIT Calicut in the context of ragging.
Dress code ragging
Physical abuse
Academic performance
My friend has done assignments and called his seniors sir but nothing more than that. Nobody is forced to do anything if somebody does then he will be subjected to strict punishments as mentioned above. Even the assignment thing doesn’t last for long as there have been many instances where teachers could identify the handwriting and many students have been caught in this act. So, you can relax as there are no chances for extreme ragging or bullying of any kind.
First, you have to reach Calicut and for that, you can take a flight or train. I would suggest you take an Indigo flight from Delhi to Calicut airport. It’s a connecting flight via Mumbai and the duration is almost 5 hrs.
It's 32 km away from NIT and you can reach it either by Bus or Taxi. And it’s better to take Taxis because you will have to change the bus once you have reached Calicut city. Also, you can use the rail. It will take almost two and a half days to reach Calicut from New Delhi. NIT Calicut is 23 km which is approx 45 minutes journey from Calicut railway station. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are available to be hired at the station.
Taking a bus is the cheapest, costing only Rs 19 per adult. The bus station is just a 5-minute walk from the railway station or you can even take an auto-rickshaw to the bus station. Ola cabs also have started their service in Calicut recently.
Moreover, there is a bus stop right in front of the NIT main gate and the Taxis can take you directly to the hostel campus or the administrative building.
Having friends studying at NIT Calicut, I am well aware of both the positive and negative aspects of the institution. Let us go through it to give you a proper idea about the institute.

Negative aspects:
Just like the two faces of a coin, NITC has both positive and negative sides. From your perspective, if positives outshine negative aspects do consider joining NIT Calicut.
NITC is pretty good in terms of both curriculum and placement. But ECE in general is a vast branch where you have to study bits and pieces of electronics, Electrical engineering, Communication Engineering, and Computer Science. Initially, it might seem a bit overwhelming but once you get the hang of it, you will understand the beauty of the subject.

Overall, NIT Calicut is a good University to pursue ECE at. In the end, it comes down to your dedication and passion for the subject.
Yes, NIT Calicut is a good option for an MBA. It offers good academics. You will get to learn the nitty-gritty of management from experienced faculties. The course curriculum gives students the freedom to choose two specializations.
NIT Calicut placements are pretty good for MBA. During the recent campus drive, students received a maximum CTC of INR 8.89 LPA.
I have a friend from NIT Calicut and he was able to provide some information regarding their M.Tech in Offshore Structure.
As for NIT Calicut, it boasts of an outstanding Civil Department. However, the placement offered by the institute may not be that good. But you can manage to get jobs through off-campus placements. You can earn a lot in the field as you gain experience.
There are a bunch of things that you should do before you graduate from NIT Calicut which might sound simple and silly but worth looking back down the memory lane.
Tick all the things to do in your bucket list before graduating from Calicut. You never know what you will regret not doing when you still are a student.
According to one of my friends' experiences, preparing for M.Tech along with your studies is very difficult. Often you do not get stipulated time to prepare for ESE due to the mini-projects and assignments that you get very frequently.
Also, you need to especially take care of your CGPA, but if you are not worried about the CGPA you can go ahead with preparing at the full pace like few other students who do the same.
Thus, we can conclude that preparing for ESE simultaneously is really a very big task. If you have the caliber of doing the same, you can follow your will and start accordingly.
If you are fine with the higher fee structure of BITS Goa, then it will be a better choice for you. The infrastructure of both colleges is similar to each other but the alumni network is better at BITS Goa compared to NIT Calicut.
But if you are interested in mechanical engineering and want to pursue it as your passion, then you should probably choose NIT Calicut. The placement records of the Mechanical department in core companies are better at NIT Calicut. The average package offered is also higher than BITS Goa. Many students opt for jobs in non-core companies especially in the IT sector from BITS Goa and they learn coding too during their graduation.
If you are looking for a job related straight to what you have studied, then choose NIT Calicut. However, if you have a plan to go for higher education, probably abroad, then BITS Goa will be a better choice. Its alumni network will also help you a lot in securing a job in a reputed company.
Starting a journey doesn’t require any tips as such. You just need to keep your morale high throughout the journey. Also, NIT, Calicut is an amazing place to study in. Yes whatever happens in these four years here, you're going to remember it for your lifetime.
Life at NITC can be segregated into two parts:
