Which is better: Silicon Institute of Technology or KIIT? Why?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : July 26th, 2023

I will compare SIT and KIIT on certain parameters-

  • Fees- KIIT charges around 2.5 times more than SIT.
  • Curriculum- In terms of curriculum, KIIT has the upper hand. KIIT is a university while SIT is a part of BPUT. The curriculum and paper-checking patterns of BPUT are quite vague and not that good.
  • Infrastructure- KIIT has a far better infrastructure than SIT. SIT lags behind in terms of infrastructure. SIT provides really slow wifi on campus.
  • Academics, Research, and Faculty- The faculty at SIT is better than KIIT. KIIT offers decent research opportunities but its students do not take much interest in the same.

The teachers in SIT are partial. The study environment is lenient and students who do not even study also end up scoring an 8 CGPA. In KIIT, however, the academic situation is even worse.

  • Location- Although both institutions are not very far from each other, KIIT has a better location because SIT campus has mobile network issues.
  • Campus Placements-  KIIT offers good placements, and packages can cross 6.5 LPA. However, more mass recruiters offering 3-4 LPA jobs visit the SIT campus. KIIT also has a good number of mass recruiters visiting the campus though.
  • Fests and Events- KIIT holds fests and events for its students. On the other hand, SIT mostly has no events and even if something does take place, the students of SIT itself end up performing.

I would suggest you choose KIIT because if you work hard enough, you can end up in a company like SAP Labs with a good package. SIT offers only average placement opportunities for which the packages range from 3-4 LPA. You can choose SIT if you wish to go for higher studies.

Are there lot of restrictions for girls in KIIT Bhubneswar hostel?

FS
Falguni Sharma Posted On : July 25th, 2023
Studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

The hostel rules imposed on girls at KIIT University are very illogical and unreasonable. The first and foremost rule is the check-in at 7 p.m. Girls are prohibited from even roaming around.

  • One of my friends narrated an incident wherein she wanted to go out for a movie and she falsely filled in the details as her place of visit being Big Bazar. The warden denied permission saying it was too far.
  • Another incident was when she wanted to go out with her friends in the afternoon to attend a function but the warden denied permission.
  • Another issue she faced was when she received mail from her home, the address of which has changed, the authorities refused to accept the Mail and verified little details like the ticket number and its timings.
  • Another illogical incident took place when she had to approach many people just to get her application signed for attending a class outside the campus.
  • The hostel authorities even crib if the students come 15 minutes late from the coaching.
  • Parents are not allowed inside the hostel after 6 pm.
  • The girls cannot even laugh or speak loudly at night and everything they are visiting the mess they have to cover their bodies.

These were some incidents of illogical restrictions imposed on the girls that stem from a huge communication gap between the college and the hostel authorities. I hope KIIT stops gender discrimination and makes more logical and flexible rules.

Which is better in terms of placements KIIT SRM or UPES?

AB

KIIT, SRM, and UPES are some of the best private colleges in India. Placement statistics change for every college according to year and branch. I am a B.Tech CSE student and therefore, my answer will talk especially about the CSE branch.

In KIIT, around 90% of the students get placed as the placement season starts. Companies mostly require a 6-6.5 CGPA and the cutoffs can go to maximum 7.5 CGPA for some companies. A 6-pointer may end up with a better job than a 9-pointer because of skills. The placement scenario is good.

KIIT is better among the three for placements because it has an E-cell or Entrepreneurship Cell which is not present in the other two colleges. Over there, an internship camp is organized in which the students can get an internship in their field of interest, in different companies.

SRM- In SRM, there is a system of mass recruitment and most students get placed. Mass recruitment companies recruit students in large numbers with an average package of around INR 4.5 LPA. If you study hard, practice coding, are strong in aptitude, database, etc., you can get a package of INR 5-6LPA.

UPES-  CSE branch, the placement percentage is around 90%.  However, the number of companies that visit UPES is limited. IBM is a big company and offers the maximum placements. Amazon, Wipro, Dell, Flipkart, and others also visit the campus for placements.

Thus, because of its Entrepreneurship Cell and Internship camp, I would suggest that KIIT has the best placements out of the three. However, placements at SRM and UPES are also quite good and the placement figures for all three are at par.

What were the CGPA requirements for placements in KIIT?

SC
Srijita Chowdhury Posted On : July 25th, 2023
B.Tech from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)

There are two aspects to your placements, whether you are concerned just about the immediate packages or if you are concerned about the long-term career prospects.

As far as only the packages are concerned, CGPA matters only in some of Companies. To stay on the safe side, try scoring between 6.5–7.0. The reason CGPA is considered for shortlisting is because of the huge batch size. Usually, students scoring less than 8.5 don’t clear these interviews. Apart from CGPA, you will have to convince the recruiter that you are a suitable candidate for the job through your communication skills and knowledge.

For your career prospects, CGPA alone is never enough. For some the placement drives are excellent opportunities while for some they are horror. However, when your career is concerned placements are not the only thing that can help you. So it’s better to not get overwhelmed. I know someone who failed to get placed in KIIT and ended up with the highest package in off-campus placements. If you want a bright career, try focusing on your passion rather than placements. Do something you absolutely love and success will find you one day.

Why is studying engineering in KIITs considered bad?

AR
Arnav Roy Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

KIIT has not released the branch-wise placements for 2023 to date. However, it has released the overall placement figures for B.Tech, for the year 2023.

As CS is the most rewarding branch in terms of placements at present, you can closely associate these placement figures with the performance of the CS branch and the top 20 students of CS.

KIIT has recorded 90% + campus placements till date. Approximately 3000 students got on-campus placement offers.
4500+ offers were generated from 350+ companies out of which, 120+ were new.
The average CTC was recorded at approx. INR 6.50 LPA.
80 companies offered a CTC of INR 10 LPA and above.
The Highest CTC offered was INR 63 LPA by YugaByte Software (P) Ltd.
2100 students were offered summer internships via the “Capstone Project” route.
1500+ paid semester internships were offered.
Capegemini was the top recruiter on campus. It gave offers to 346 students. It was followed by Bosch Global Software Technologies (P) Ltd. with 242 job offers.
IT Mass Recruitment Campus Drives generated 1300 job offers from companies like Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, Mindtree, Bosch, Ericsson, IBM, among others.

These were the major placement highlights for B.Tech for the year 2023 at KIIT. From these figures, you can clearly see the promising state of placements at KIIT for the CS branch.

Which private engineering colleges are better than kiit university?

SR
Sandhya R Posted On : July 25th, 2023

KIIT is certainly one of the most highly-reputed colleges in Eastern India and its official rankings are a testament to the same. One of my friends was in a great dilemma and took Civil Engineering at KIIT during counseling but ended up getting admission somewhere else. Till the end, he wasn’t satisfied with the institute especially because of its increasing intake.  The high competition makes it impossible to get a good job and all the high fees you spend goes to waste. He knew KIIT offers a very dynamic college life which he will be missing out on if he doesn't take admission but the high strength dissuaded him.

That being said, you can choose among the following private engineering colleges which are well-known for their excellent education and placements.

  • BITS Pilani
  • BITS Hyderabad
  • BIT Mesra
  • RVCE Bangalore
  • VIT University
  • Thapar University
  • Manipal Institute of Technology
  • IIIT Hyderabad
  • Dhirubhai Ambani IICT
  • MIT Pune

Hope this was helpful!

How can I score CGPA 9 in KIIT?

AD
Ananya Dasgupta Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)

I am an alumnus of KIIT. In my B.Tech Civil Engineering course, I scored a 9.43 CGPA and ranked 2nd overall in my branch.

For a 9+ CGPA, I would recommend you follow this advice-

  • Hostel- You and your roommates will most probably come from different backgrounds, both economic and cultural. Learn to accept the differences and do not waste your time and energy on petty arguments. After your first year at KIIT, when you will be shifted from King’s Castle VII, try to get a room with people who carry the same values and mindset as you. However, be ready for adjustments and compromises with them as well.
  1. Classes- Do not unnecessarily miss your classes at KIIT because there you will learn important tips on preparing for your examinations and other competitions. Also, try to study for 2-4 hours each day after classes.
  2. Read- Read motivating and inspiring books during your free time.
  3. Set a goal for yourself- Be it an MBA from an IIM, getting a good placement offer, or any such goal, make it in the first year itself and work hard towards achieving it. With such a goal in mind, you will study harder toward getting a good CGPA.

Apart from studies, do enjoy your life at KIIT, make amazing friends, and develop leadership and managerial skills by participating in societies like the Photography Society, Music Society, Dance Society, etc.

What are the best things for KIIT University students to do on weekends?

SD
Salini Dasgupta Posted On : July 26th, 2023
studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

I am an alumnus of KIIT. I was a B.Tech Electrical Engineering student. I would first like to tell you how our weekdays looked like. Our classes went on from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening. After which, we spent some time chatting amongst ourselves in the Kathajodi Campus. The Soc people ended up planning some group activities. Others mostly returned to the hostels.

One thing that I regret is not spending much time in the library. A library is the biggest resource present at any institution. Weekdays are usually filled with other commitments, so make sure to spend some time in the library during the weekends. The library is not meant to just study your curriculum or for lab copywriting. Make sure to do some extra reading. Other than that, try exploring the KIIT campus on foot.

I thought I must offer some advice because I regret not putting in some extra hours for my personality development. You will get numerous other fun tips from people around you at KIIT, but none will tell you to do some extra work for just a few hours during the weekends.

Is there direct admission in KIIT?

BS
Biswajeet Sinha Posted On : July 25th, 2023
B.Tech in CSCE from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)

If you haven’t appeared for KIITEE and want to get direct admission to KIIT, you will have to choose one of the 2 ways mentioned below

  • Either visit the admission department located on campus and talk about direct admission. They call it management quota and the fees charged for the same is higher than regular admission. For CSE it’s the highest and its in decreasing order for the rest of the branches
  • If you have a good JEE Main rank or 12th score, then they will consider your admission with donations.

These are the only 2 ways I am aware of to seek direct admission to KIIT.
