Manipal University is ranked 1st among the research publications of private universities in India by SCLmago. Admission to various courses at the institute is based on the entrance test of the university.

The HRD ministry approved the VIT university with grade ‘A’. Admissions are based on the merit and entrance test followed by counseling. Almost 100% of placements offered to students.

Given below are the differences between VIT and Manipal university.

Admission:

VIT University:

• The whole application process is online and the application fee is 1200 INR.

• Admissions are based on merit or entrance test known as VITEEE and NATA followed by counseling and interview.

• With this, students are also required to have at least 70% in 10+2 in their required subjects according to the programs. There is a relaxation of 5% in 10+2 for SC and ST students.

Manipal University:

• The admission process is online with an application fee of 1400 INR.

• The university conducts an admission test for most of the degree programs which is known as MET (Manipal Entrance Test).

• Students are also needed to complete their 12th with at least 55% in order to be eligible for admission. There is a 5% relaxation for SC and ST students.

Placements:

VIT University:

• In the latest placement drive at VIT one about 8000 job offers were made to students by Accenture, Wipro, TCS, and Infosys.

• The average CTC offered is 6 LPA.

• The highest CTC offered is 41 LPA.

The infrastructure and faculty of the university are top-notch. Almost all classrooms are air-conditioned and well-equipped. Teachers are well experienced and knowledgeable in their respective fields.

Manipal University:

• Companies like Accenture, Amazon, American Express, Dell, Bristlecone India, etc visit the campus every year in search of good placements.

• The average and highest CTC offered to the students is 6 lakhs and 42 lakhs respectively.

The university is known for its great infrastructure. Swimming pools, gym, gaming centers, and other facilities are available on campus. The faculty is also well experienced.

Overall both the Institute are good and offer quality education. The placement rate of both universities is almost the same. The infrastructure of Manipal University is exceptionally great but VIT offers better faculty.

Making a comparison between two branches is not appreciable as each branch has its own pros and cons. 

• CSE at VIT Vellore is one of the finest branches after top IITs. The college produces quality students every year who are usually leading top MNCs today or pursuing higher degrees in top US universities.
• There is a strong coding culture at VIT Vellore and technical knowledge is given to them which is one of the major requirements for this field. 
• There is a startup ecosystem that involves learning machine language and artificial intelligence that can help students to gain many opportunities for their future ahead.
• According to recent placements statistics, the total number of offers made by various prestigious companies was 717. 
• The highest package offered was INR 75 LPA, with the top recruiting companies as Dyte, PayPal, and DE Shaw.

CSE at VIT Vellore is one of the best colleges offering ample opportunities to all the students studying.

My brother had the option of VIT for CSE on merit still he chose PEC metallurgy. There are various reasons as to why he took that decision:

• VIT is more expensive. Even if he had gone on merit, it would have cost him much more than PEC.
• Placements in core companies in ECE are negligible. You can sit for IT companies, but they pay less to ECE undergraduates than CSE counterparts.
• If you are a north Indian, culturally VIT might be different and might take time to adjust.
• Metallurgy is an undervalued branch in India; many of my seniors are pursuing MS from Germany, the United States, and France, and some have gone to IIMs and FMS with strong credentials.
• One of our seniors received a PPO of 15 lakhs, which is more than many students from elite branches.
• You can choose to upgrade, but you'll quickly realize that it's not that simple because the grading criteria favors those who are less deserving (no offense).
• Whether you accept it or not, those who claim that placement in metallurgy is poor (as it is in all branches except CS/IT) are correct. Placements in the core are hard to come by.
• Only 4000 people in GATE are from metallurgy, whereas there are 1.8 lakh from CSE and 2.1 lakh from Mechanical, implying that the probability of you getting a PSU is greater than that of a mechanical engineer.

I personally believe VIT is overrated because a friend who did not even pass mains received 2000 AIR in VITEEE. In the CBSE 2016 boards, he scored 78 percent, which was below average.

For B.Tech courses VIT has been ranked #15-300 in India for the year 2020 by NIRF rankings. In Tamil Nadu, the university was ranked #4th for courses in B.Tech. On the other hand, Manipal University was ranked #8-200 for top universities in India by NIRF rankings in the year 2020.

Admissions

• Manipal University, Manipal:

  • Completed his/ her 10+2 grade or equivalent from a recognized board With Physics, Mathematics, and English as the compulsory subjects with 50% marks.

  • The candidate taking admission should also qualify the Manipal Entrance Test (MET)- 2020.

  • 3.35 Lakhs is the total fee for the CSE course in the 1st year.

• VIT Vellore:

  • The candidate must have completed 10+2 with PCM or PCB as the subjects.

  • Minimum 60% marks should be obtained by the aspirant in 10+2.

  • The selections are done on the basis of counseling and marks obtained in the entrance texts i.e., VITEEE.

  • The total course fee for ECE in VIT is 1.98 Lakhs.

Placements

• Manipal University, Manipal:

  • 6.2 Lakhs was the median salary offered to CSE students in the University.

  • Top recruiting companies in Manipal are Forbes Marshall, Mercedes Benz, Hyundai, Cipla, Hero Moto Corp, Maruti Suzuki, INFOYSIS, Intel, etc.

• VIT Vellore:

  • 713+ companies visited the campus with a total of 705 dream offers.

  • The highest package offered was 41.60 LPA and 6.05 LPA was the average salary offered.

  • Microsoft, Philips, HP, TCS, Wipro, Intel, Bank of America, Infosys, Deloitte, and Bosch among many others are top recruiters of the University.

Campus

• Manipal University, Manipal:

  • The campus is about 313 acres in the area.

  • Hospital facilities, sports facilities, and innovative centers are available for students, Wi-Fi facility is available everywhere across the campus, restaurants, libraries, hostel, labs, etc. are some of the facilities available on-campus.

• VIT Vellore:

  • The campus size is about 250 acres.

  • Clubs, library, sports facilities, hostel, health services, transport facilities, pollution friendly management projects such as liquid waste management, solid waste management, solar power, wind power, etc. are some of the facilities and activities going on in the campus.

If the subject is not the priority then VIT is a lot ahead of Manipal as it provides excellent placements and living environment to the students. But it all depends on the choice and interests of the aspirant seeking admissions.

A few cousins of mine have completed their B.Tech from VIT Vellore with different branches. With them being successfully placed, their experience says you must choose VIT among both of these. Here’s why:

• Mechanical engineering at VIT Vellore is far better as you will get better exposure there. There is a huge emphasis on students coming up with their innovations and technology.

• The quality of students at VIT can be easily compared with that of top NITs, as there is no caste-based reservation at VIT unlike PEC, Chandigarh.

In the end, it is best recommended to choose VIT Vellore for Mechanical engineering as it offers better exposure and opportunities. However, PEC is also a good college and its fee structure is quite nominal as compared to VIT. In case of budget constraints, go for PEC.
