Which is better: electronics/EXTC from KJ Somaiya or DJ Sanghavi?

SS
Sumit Saha Posted On : September 4th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering & Information Technology, K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering

I have friends from both KJ Somiya and DJ Sanghavi. Based on the conversations I had with them, here is a brief comparison of the institutes.

  • Teaching: Both institutes have good faculty bases and good academic infrastructure with well-established laboratories.
  • Student crowd: The crowd at both institutes is similar. Both have a Gujrathi minority.
  • Campus: KJ Somiya has a bigger campus. It has a full-size football ground, basketball ground, volleyball ground, tennis court, etc. DJ Sanghavi has a small campus but it offers better infrastructure.
  • Placements: Placement wise KJ Somiya is better than DJ Sanghavi. The former offers better packages. Most of the companies that recruit from KJ Somiya are from the IT industry. Also, a few telecom companies visit the campus placements.

Here are the placement highlights of both the institutes in brief.

Category  KJ Somiya  DJ Sanghavi
Average CTC  5 LPA  6.60 LPA
Highest CTC  18 LPA  20 LPA
Major recruiters  Microsoft, HDFC Bank, Jio Adobe, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley

Both Electronics and EXTC students can appear for Telecommunications companies. However, EXTC has better scopes in this field.

How's ECE at NIT Kurukshetra?

SR
Sumit Roy Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

The ECE department at NIT Kurukshetra is average and not at par with NIT standards so go for it only if you are genuinely interested in the branch. Here are some strong reasons why I oppose joining this branch

  • The classroom sessions are boring and only a few exceptional professors are even interested in teaching
  • The workload is challenging and so is the curriculum. You will have to study really hard to maintain a good CGPA, something that directly affects your placements. It will be even more difficult if you lack interest in the branch.
  • The placement scenario is also nothing you will be looking forward to. Only a handful of companies come for ECE students. The majority of the batch will be placed in IT companies, and for this, you will have to study extra CS subjects. The competition is overwhelming and you will feel drained.

The detailed placement statistics of the ECE branch at NIT Kurukshetra have been tabulated below:

Eligible Students

124

Placement Offers

84.68

Range of Package

INR 6.02 LPA -INR 50.59 LPA

Median CTC

So don’t go for ECE unless you are genuinely interested in it or you are committed to hard work for 4 long years.

MP

Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

If you want better infrastructure and exposure, and money is not an issue for you, choose CS/ECE Jaypee Noida. Regarding placements, speak with the seniors at Jaypee.

In terms of placement, IET Lucknow will undoubtedly provide you with numerous opportunities. You will be given a variety of opportunities, and there will be no limitations imposed by the college administration team.

How is ECE branch at the NIT Durgapur?

Namrata Das Posted On : September 7th, 2023

As a final-year ECE student at NIT Durgapur, I will share my observations about this department with you.

NIT Durgapur offers no research facilities as such. So if you enter the ECE department expecting research-based innovative studies, you’ll be disappointed. You’ll score a good CGPA. You will get the opportunity to intern at CERN, through a good CGPA. Other than that, the curriculum doesn’t really offer much growth. Most people aren’t that driven or hardworking over here.

Since 2017, however, changes in curriculum and faculty have opened doors for improvement. The infrastructure and lab facilities of this college need a lot of improvement. Phd. scholars should be selected more carefully for teaching the students.

I recommend you try Jadavpur ECE. You can also search for some other option that is better than NIT Durgapur ECE.

Should I go for DTU for mechanical or IIIT-Delhi for ECE?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : October 5th, 2023

I have friends in both the colleges DTU and IIIT Delhi so I can give you a comparative analysis of these colleges

  • IIIT Delhi charges almost double the fees of DTU, so if you have financial constraints, DTU is a better choice.
  • IIIT Delhi has a rigorous campus life and heavy workload sparing no time for extracurricular activities.
  • DTU students score better CG even though they are involved in many nonacademic activities. A high CG score is crucial for MS or further studies and even more so during placements.
  • IIIT Delhi has a smaller batch size so it's easier to become part of any cultural competition because of quantitatively fewer people competing for the same.
  • DTU has a bigger campus and better infrastructure than IIIT Delhi which operates from a tiny campus.
  • Except for core electronics, you can almost pursue any career as a DTU student because of the free time you have. The mechanical societies of DTU are excellent.

The choice between the two is a matter of personal goals and inclinations.

I got ECE at RVCE Bangalore. Now I can get ECE branch at NIT Surathkal. Which is the better option?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : September 14th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

One of my friends is currently pursuing her final year Btech in ECE in NIT Surathkal and shared a few key points

  • Placements: The placement scenario for the ECE branch of both NIT Surathkal and RVCE is somewhat similar. Most companies like TI and Samsung visit both the colleges and offer similar packages. However, NIT students face intense competition due to relative grading so grabbing good packages is more challenging than at RVCE.
  • Brand : It cannot be denied that the NIT tag adds a lot of value to your resume and opens multiple doors of opportunities.
  • Faculty : The ECE department of NITK has one of the best faculties in comparison to any other departments. Most of them are highly experienced and you can do many projects under them. The course curriculum is also revised frequently.
  • Opportunities : RVCE is located in Bangalore and thus offers better off-campus opportunities than NIT Surathkal.

Ultimately, both colleges are equally good in their own way. It’s up to you to choose the right one for you!

IES or ISRO: which is better for the ECE branch?

SS
Sudipta Sen Posted On : January 14th, 2021
M.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, G.B Pant University of Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand

The winning institute cannot be unequivocally spotted here as the choice depends upon whether you want to land into a techno-managerial job or purely a technological job.

Here are the few listed points to study both the options:

Job Security: Both IES and ISRO are government jobs, hence the job security is implicit.

Job Reputation:

  • ISRO is a reputed-job in India but IES is one of the most prestigious jobs in India.
  • IES gets a chance to network with the bureaucrats of India.
  • They are called "civil servants" of India. As they get promoted, there is a chance to be in a position that is on par with IAS.

Other Perks:

  • IES gets a chance to travel within the various parts of the country for video conferences, while ISRO provides the opportunity to travel abroad for work.
  • IES is a mix of management and technical jobs. You have to lead your subordinates along with working technically. IES can go for higher studies in management.
  • In ISRO you will have a purely technical job. You can opt for it if you are interested in growth opportunities in the technical field of work. If you want to pursue higher studies in a technical field then you can also go for this job.
  • In ISRO you will get to work with many talented people from India and abroad.
  • You get a promotion based on time in IES, not based on performance like in ISRO.
  • IES gets a chance to get transferred and work with different departments or ministries. While in ISRO, you will be constrained to a single department.

These are the perks of both jobs. To decide which is better for you, choose what is the line of work you want to join.

How are the placements in IT, CE and ECE in DTU?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : July 6th, 2023

DTU has been recording excellent placement over the past few years. DTU Placements 2022 received 2459 offers. Students received 14 international offers of more than INR 1 CPA.

DTU's highest package was recorded at INR 1.8 CPA whereas the average package stood at INR 15.16 LPA. In all, 403 recruiters participated in DTU Placements 2022, the top firms being Samsung, Instabase, Atlassian, Sprinklr, Amazon, Alphonso, Salesforce, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.

As for the branch-wise statistics, the table below will guide you:

Particulars

IT

ECE

EC

No. of Students Placed

101

148

63

Number of Offers

128

179

75

No. of Students Registered for Placement

124

183

113

Average package

INR 23.987 LPA

INR 15.754 LPA

INR 8.845 LPA

Highest package

INR 90.07 LPA

INR 64.23 LPA

INR 17 LPA

Apart from the above statistics here are a few points to know about the placement scenario at DTU

  • Monetarily, IT is better than ECE followed by CE which has very few offers.
  • Most non-technical firms are open for both ECE and IT but not for CE.
  • The package offered by non-technical firms depends on your skills and not your branch.
  • IT firms are open for all branches but IT and ECE students will prefer CE students.

Overall, the placements at DTU are great and out of the branches you mentioned, IT takes the lead followed by ECE and CE.

What is the highest and average package offered in ECE at NIT Durgapur?

AS
Akriti Sinha Posted On : September 6th, 2023
B.Tech in Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur

The reality about ECE placements at NIT Durgapur is that the ECE core sector companies rarely visit for placements and most packages are offered by IT sector companies. A few core companies that have visited in the past are CDOT, Sankalp Semiconductors, Idea Cellular & Reliance Jio. Recently big shots like Qualcomm, TI, and NXP have started visiting the campus for recruitment.

As for the stats, the institute does not release the highest package. Here is what is released officially

Average CTC

INR 17.49 LPA

Placement %

88.37%

All in all the future of ECE in NIT Durgapur seems promising both in core and IT!

Which is better for CS/ECE NIT Hamirpur, NIT Jalandhar, IIIT Kancheepuram, IIIT Jabalpur ?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 14th, 2023

First, I would like you to address your branch preference. Choosing a branch should be the top most priority. CSE and ECE are quite different from one another. Although IITs/IIITs/NITs do offer a branch change option, it is quite difficult to get it. So I would suggest you make up your mind on which branch truly interests you.

Now coming to the colleges. Choose IIIT Jabalpur for a CSE branch. This is because IIITs offer good placements, curriculum and culture in this branch. Even IIIT Kancheepuram is a good option for CSE. But the distance from home and food form an integral part of this decision-making. Assuming you aren’t from South India, the lifestyle and eating habits might be difficult to adapt to. As far as NIT Hamirpur and NIT Jalandhar are concerned, choose them if you are planning for an ECE degree. They are good colleges as well.

First prioritize your branch and then choose your college among these four. I won’t suggest you go by college rankings. Basically, choose your branch first and then decide the best college for yourself.
