Both the Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) and Federal Institute of Science And Technology (FISAT) are very good institutes and have almost similar rankings in the state of Kerala. Now you can compare both the institutes on various parameters. I have taken two broad and the most popular parameters for this comparison.
Placement - In this regard, the School of Engineering (SoE) of CUSAT is better than FISAT. According to the recent placement statistics, the average and highest CTC offered at CUSAT is 4 LPA and 15 LPA respectively. Cochin University College of Engineering Kuttanad (CUCEK) campus of CUSAT is also similar to SoE in terms of placements.
Infrastructure - Here FISAT takes an upper hand and has better facilities than both SoE and CUCEK. SoE is slightly good and is comparable to FISAT but CUCEK lacks a lot of facilities compared to both.
So it totally depends on you and what your priorities are. If you only aim for placements then choose CUSAT. If you want good infrastructure, then FISAT is preferable.
If you get any other better options from other NITs or IITs then go for it. Assam University is overall good considering the environment, infrastructure, and facilities. The CSE department is better among the others.
Assam University has a diverse student crowd. Success mainly depends on how well you know the subject you are pursuing, your skills, and how you prepare to shape your future. If you are hardworking enough the institute would not be a problem. If you need a more disciplined institute that will guide you in every way, then it might not be a good choice.
IIIT Guwahati offers only two courses currently in its undergraduate B.Tech program; ECE and CSE.
Currently, no cut-off CGPA exists above which you can apply for the branch change. Try to score as high as possible and try to be among the very top few of the branch. The higher your CGPA is, the better your chances are for a possible branch change.
It is suggested it would be better if you can aim for a CGPA of 9.2 and above.
But I would also suggest you not burden yourself with the grades and numbers too much and enjoy your studies as much as possible. Study well and strive hard for your success and definitely, you can do wonders at any branch.
As these are two distinct branches of engineering, you should pursue a topic that piques your interest.
Categories | CS at Thapar Patiala | Electrical at PEC Chandigarh |
Course Fee | 13.23 lakh | 6.39 lakh |
Highest CTC | 20 LPA | 8-10 LPA |
Average CTC | 11 LPA | 6 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Wipro, Infosys, TCS, IBM, etc. | Phillips, L&T, JP Morgan, TCS, etc. |
It all depends on what you're interested in. If you are interested in CS, then choose Thapar (if fees are not an issue) or electrical in PEC Chandigarh.
Out of the three, you should definitely consider MNNIT Allahabad for studying B.Tech in CSE. Below are some of the reasons for the same.
The official placement data of CSE for the year 2020 is given below.
Eligible Candidates | 168 |
Number of students placed | 162 |
Percentage of students placed | 96.42% |
Average salary | INR 18.02 lakhs per annum |
Highest salary | INR 39.022 lakhs per annum |
So undoubtedly, MNNIT Allahabad is a very good college for pursuing CSE and certainly is the best among the given options.
It is suggested that among these you should get enrolled in the institution which is nearest to your hometown. And if they offer good facilities for CSE courses you can then depend on it.
As per the NIRF Rankings your preference for choosing an institution among these should be as follows:
Considering that you choose from among the top two of the above-mentioned list. My brother went for SVNIT Surat in the year 2018 based on certain other factors involved.
You can refer to the tables mentioned below for the placement statistics of both these institutions for the year 2020.
Categories | CSE at NIT Durgapur | CSE at SVNIT Surat |
Course Fee | 5.56 lakh | 5.63 lakh |
Highest CTC | 33 LPA | 37.5 LPA |
Average CTC | 9.09 LPA | 14.18 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Infosys, TCS, PWC, Deloitte, etc. | HSBC, DE Shaw, Cognizant, IBM, etc. |
For the other institutions mentioned, you can check out the official website or some online portal to get an idea about the status of placement at these institutions. Lastly, make your choice after thorough research and then only select an institution.
NIT Trichy is one of the top 10 institutions in India for Engineering, NIT Patna makes it to the 56th position in the NIRF Rankings 2023 for Engineering.
Despite this, I would suggest you go for CSE from NIT Patna. Out of my experience of meeting different people, I would suggest you choose a better course over a better institution. CSE is in demand these days, while Civil might not be a good choice placement-wise.
A friend of mine pursued his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a top NIT. He did not land a decent job. After that, he cracked GATE and went for his M.Tech in Civil Engineering from DTU. Even after his M.Tech, he landed a package of INR 5.5 LPA.
Civil Engineers from IIT Guwahati in my friend circle started preparing for UPSC because of not getting a job.
I believe that a course tag is permanent unless you switch your stream during your Masters. Therefore, I would suggest you take CSE from NIT Patna instead of Civil from NIT Trichy.
A rank of 3861 is not enough for getting a seat in CSE at Amrita University, Coimbatore. The points below provide a brief overview of the chances of getting a CSE seat on other campuses.
Therefore, it is very much clear that such a rank is not enough for CSE at Amrita University, Coimbatore, but may fetch a seat in the last rounds of counseling at the Amritapuri campus.
In terms of brand recognition and exposure, NSUT IT is better than PEC Chandigarh. Delhi offers way better exposure, due to the presence of the industry belt in the area. There are many reputed technological institutes in Delhi such as IIITD, so the learning opportunities are ample.
CSE and IT aren’t too different. The major difference between the two branches is hardware and 90% of students are more invested in software roles. If you aren’t particularly interested in the hardware section of Computer Science, choosing NSUT will be better. NSUT placements are great for IT. Students of the branch get salary packages in the range of INR 4 - 20 LPA.
It doesn’t matter in which branch of engineering you are in, every branch has some theory sessions and practical sessions. It is important to take the help of technology to implement theoretical concepts practically.
You can definitely carry a laptop in the class but you might not be allowed to use it during lectures. You need to take prior permission from the faculty if you want to operate it for programming or learning a lesson. If anyone denies you to do so, you can directly contact the HOD. Other than that, you can use it during lunchtime for practice sessions.
LNCT has well-established labs for each branch and they are updated with the latest software. You can utilize the laboratories easily if you don’t have a laptop.
