Is VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) better than NIT Silchar (National Institute of Technology Silchar)?
VIT is leading in terms of ranking over NIT Silchar, and this is because
- The excellence and number of sponsored projects undertaken and completed by VIT faculty members are incomparable to those of NIT Silchar faculty members.
- The number of Publications in Journals and conferences by faculty members and students is far higher at the VIT.
- The perception of VIT students in reputed graduate Schools is first-rate.
So it is better to choose VIT than NIT Silchar.
How is NIT Srinagar in comparison to NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala for a student from Delhi-NCR?
One of my friends from Delhi is pursuing MTech from NIT Silchar. He claims it to be the best college in the North East at least for North Indians. However, the quality of food served is not very good and there are many varieties of veg food around the campus. The campus life is vibrant but it's better to go for other NITs in the North. NIT Silchar is a decent choice if you are getting CSE, ECE or Mechanical else go for CSE in NIT Agartala or NIT Srinagar. Also, if your goal is to pursue higher studies, then go for NIT Agartala as it has better connectivity from Delhi, the hub of coaching institutes.
Is NIT Raipur better than NIT Silchar?
Here are various factors on which one can compare these two institutions-
- Placements- NIT Raipur offers better placements for CSE/IT/core branches. This is because of its advantageous location. It is located near IIT Bhilai, increasing its chances of being visited by good companies.
- Connectivity- As compared to Silchar, Raipur is better connected to the rest of the country.
- Campus- NIT Silchar has a lush green campus. NIT Raipur lags behind in terms of campus facilities and hostel accommodation. This is because it was built much before.
- Ranking- As per the NIRF 2023 Engineering rankings, NIT Raipur stands at 70th position. On the other hand, NIT Silchar stands at 40th position. This can be attributed to NIT Silchar’s better campus and hostel facilities.
Both the colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses. You should choose based on your own priorities. Also, the choice should be based on what branch you are getting at both.

The food items are usually changed on a daily basis and are repeated after 1 or 2 days. The best food is served at Dinner and on Sundays. The last Sunday of the month is the Grand feast where many delicacies are served.
How is the life of a fresher at the NIT Silchar?
NIT Silchar is incredible in terms of infrastructure and the lush green campus. The freshmen have separate hostels that are fully furnished and have all the facilities. Eventually, you will start to enjoy your campus life with your classmates or roommates. Of course, there are some cons at NIT Silchar that you may face at every college. Overall, it would be a good experience.
How is the girls hostel in NIT Silchar? Is the campus environment safe for girls?
NIT Silchar consists of three blocks for the girls' hostel, which are situated near each other. GH1 and GH2 are mostly allotted for undergraduate students, and G3 is for postgraduate students. Every block has a mess and a private canteen, which works from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The campus ensures strict security and provides a safe environment for the students. The CCTV cameras are working 24 hours a day on the campus. The hostels are situated near the children's park and badminton court, which is a place to get relief from the hectic schedule of classes. Overall, you will have a good residence at NIT Silchar.
Which is better for CSE: IIEST Shibpur or NIT Silchar?
IIEST Shibpur is one of the oldest Engineering and Technology colleges in India. An excellent placement record ever since it’s the foundation is held by the college, right from the department of mining to an exceptional upgrading placement log in Computer Science (CSE).
Ranked 51 among the Engineering Colleges of India by NIRF in 2019, NIT Silchar is among the prestigious institutes specialized in departments like civil, mechanical, electronics, mining including Computer science (CSE) mentioned on the official site and some other reliable websites to be contemplated.

IIEST Shibpur: Almost 90% of students got placed in Microsoft, Google, Amazon, IBM, and a lot more prestigious companies from a CSE vantage point mentioned in some official government sources with the highest CTC of 39.12 Lakhs.

What will be better, NIT Silchar or NIT Patna considering all aspects?
Both NIT Silchar and NIT Patna have their strengths and weaknesses.
- NIT Silchar- NIT Silchar has a rich heritage and a greater campus size of 625 acres. Infrastructure wise, NIT Silchar is better than NIT Patna. As per the NIRF 2023 Engineering Rankings, NIT Patna is placed 56th and NIT Silchar, 40th. So the NIT S ranks higher in the NIRF Rankings. NIT Silchar has a more beautiful campus and better extracurricular facilities.
- NIT Patna- NIT Patna offers a better location. It has better transportation facilities and better connectivity. It puts out higher cutoff ranks for admissions, and it hosts good college fests. It has a small campus and lacks good infrastructure, but it has been allocated 125 acres in Bihta for the construction of its new campus.
As far as placements are concerned, both the colleges are good. Also, both offer decent sports facilities.
According to me, both colleges are good. However, NIT Silchar will offer you a better campus and infrastructure. Ultimately, you need to choose between them based on your personal preference.
I am confused over joining IIIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar for Computer Science branch. Many of my friends have warned me of poor teaching in IIITG. How far is it true?
Both the colleges are not very good. But if you want to choose between IIIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar then it would be better to choose NIT Silchar. Because at IIIT Guwahati, the administration, infrastructure, and faculty members are not so good. If you will face any problem in the college then the administration does not even care. You will have to survive on your own.
NIT Silchar has better infrastructure as compared to IIIT Guwahati. The student union of the college will take care of the problems and they will raise their voices against them. If you have the option of not choosing northeastern colleges then you must go ahead. At the end of the day, it depends upon you how you want to spend your four years in college.
