What are my chances of getting into IIMs, FMS, IIFT, XLRI with the below details?

RS
Ranjit Sinha Posted On : June 24th, 2021
B.Sc Mathematics & Strategy and Management Consulting, Shiv Nadar University (2016)

IIFT conducts its own entrance test while for XLRI you need to appear for XAT. All other colleges like FMS, IIMs accept CAT scores only. All these are difficult entrance tests on their own, so focus on getting a good percentile in all the entrance tests in the first place.

After getting a good percentile, getting calls and eventual conversion depends on a lot of factors including past academic records, work experience, and GD/PI performance.

  • Since your overall profile is being evaluated, with an average academic past, IIM Ahmedabad will only call you if you score close to the 100 percentile.
  • IIM Bangalore may call you below that then its final selection also puts importance on consistency and high academic scores.
  • IIM Calcutta is known for putting higher stress on past academics and a score of more than 99.6/99.7 percentile can only guarantee a call.
  • The newer and baby IIMs may call you in the 99 percentile region.
  • As far as IIFT and XLRI go, also scoring something close to 99 percentile or more can only help you.
  • The best approach should be to target other private B-schools and non-IIMs such as FMS Delhi, NMIMS Mumbai, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, XIMB Bhubaneswar, IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, etc.

Ultimately past academic records, work experience you cannot change. The only thing in your hand is your CAT/XAT/IIFT percentiles and your GD/PI performance. Focus on getting as high a percentile as possible.

Will I be offered a seat in MBA (I'm waitlisted at 113) even after accepting the MBA marketing program at TAPMI?

VJ
Vrishank Jain Posted On : May 27th, 2023
PGDM Post Graduate Diploma in Management, T. A. Pai Management Institute (2019)

Yes, TAPMI has a separate waitlist for all of its programs. So if you manage to convert the MBA program you will be offered a seat irrespective of whether you have accepted the marketing program or not. You would then have the choice to choose between the 2 programs.

How would you compare KJ Somaiya's PGDM with NIRMA's MBA in terms of placement and opportunities? Which one will be better?

BG
Banika Gaira Posted On : December 26th, 2022
PGDM in International Business (college major) & Marketing, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) (Graduated 2020)

Comparing the 2 B Schools that are KJ Somaiya and NIRMA, I would say both are equal in terms of placements, opportunities and exposure. The only factor you need to consider here is location. NIRMA is a good choice if your hometown is nearby. But if you want to enjoy your college life, explore and make memories, KJ Somaiya is the best. Located in Vidyavihar, a student-dominated area in Mumbai, it has an amazing campus with top-notch facilities.

Placements

The table below draws a clear comparison between both the B Schools.

Particulars

KJ Somaiya

NIRMA

No. of companies visited

Placement percentage

INR 26 LPA

Average package

INR 10.98 LPA

INR 10.50 LPA

Top Recruiters

Zomato, SBI, ITC Limited, Airtel, EY, Hindustan Unilever Limited

Oracle, Hyundai

So from the table, we can infer that placement-wise both colleges are almost the same. The difference lies in their location and the type of college life they offer.

What is better choice doing MS in Management from USA or doing MBA from top B schools like JBIMS, FMS, ISB, XLRI, SP JAIN (IIMs excluded for a while)?

RS
Raman Kumar Shekhar Posted On : June 18th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

One of my friends was pursuing the One Year Management Program in the US. So, I can give you the scenario of doing management from the US.

Pursuing a one-year program from the US is not a good option, no matter which university you are choosing.

  • As they lack in providing internship opportunities. International students also find it hard to get job opportunities because of their visa sponsorships.
  • Before enrolling into any B-school first get clear what you want from the course and university.
  • Above mentioned, JBIMS, FMS, ISB, XLRI, and SP JAIN, all are good and give you a good job opportunity.
  • While MBA programs from ISB, FMS, XLRI are economical, SP Jain Mumbai and Jamnalal Bajaj Mumbai are also good.

Therefore, before getting into any B school first become clear what you want. If you want to work in the US, then go for a full-time MBA program from the top 20 colleges only.

Is NMIMS Mumbai famous for an MBA in operations?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 6th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

MBA in Operations is not something that NMIMS is known for, but MBA is.

Most MBA Core students choose either Marketing or Finance, so Operations has a small number of students. (This could be a good thing or a bad thing.)

The case method is the main way that the School teaches. It uses real-world business situations that offer interesting possibilities in difficult situations. The focus here is on practical information and learning that fits each person's needs. It has a lot of intellectual capital in the form of professors who are well-known in their areas and work hard to make the school a dynamic place to learn.

Aside from the classes, placements in the operations field are also pretty good, and companies offer operations management students a wide range of jobs.adv
