What makes it so hard to get admission in FMS Delhi despite they don't give weightage to past academics?

CB
Chitra Basu Posted On : May 23rd, 2023
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (2018)

Even though the FMS website does not share any criteria regarding past experiences but in the final merit list for admission they give 10% weightage each for marks obtained in class X and class XII. Along with this, they also give 5% weightage to Extempore, 15% weightage to Personal Interview, and 20% weightage to Group Discussion.

You may do very well in the 90% of the final merit list criteria but the 10% past academic performance is where you face the final heat and students who have scored exceptionally well have a higher chance to convert a seat in FMS Delhi.

Why do students choose FMS Delhi?

SS
Sunil Singh Posted On : December 31st, 2022
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2021)

By choosing FMS Delhi do you mean just choosing FMS or choosing FMS over other top B Schools like IIMs? The answer remains the same for both. People who choose FMS over other B Schools are aware of the certain advantages that cannot be availed at any other B School.

One of my cousins wrote the CAT in 2018 and got selected in almost all the B Schools other than IIM Calcutta. She was overwhelmed yet she had no dream school in mind. That’s when she started inquiring about FMS. She reached out to alumni of top B-schools and mentors. She also asked herself questions like

  • What do I want from a B-school? ( Placement opportunities, campus life, exchange programs, etc..)
  • What are my priorities?
  • What would I wish to do after 10 years?
  • How am I going to fund my B-school education?
  • What do I seek from a corporate job in the future?

Once she had the answers to these questions in her mind, she knew FMS would be best for her. The excellent placements with the lowest fees were too good an opportunity to miss. FMS also gives the freedom to choose and pursue anything going further.

When people choose FMS over other IIMs it’s not because it’s better than them. It’s because it suits their needs best. So choose what is best for you, not best for everyone. Don’t fall into the trap of rankings and let your decision be fueled by them.

The University Grants Commission funds FMS which is a national institute. There are no exceptions for residents of any particular state. According to Delhi University regulations, certain categories are entitled to reservations and exemptions. FMS is an equal opportunity institution for the remaining seats, with no discrimination based on race, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, age, or physical handicap.

To be admitted to FMS, Delhi, candidates must have a bachelor's degree of at least 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in the case of SC/ST candidates, only passing marks are required). Candidates from the OBC/PWD and CW categories must have 45% at graduation.

Should I choose IIMB over FMS Delhi?

RG
Rishikesh Gupta Posted On : December 30th, 2022
CAT 2018: 99.82%ile. Converted FMS Delhi and IIM Bangalore

Many people choose IIM Bangalore over FMS Delhi because of its brand image. Also without any doubt, IIM is at an altogether different level than other B Schools. Considering the IIFT rankings of this year IIM Bangalore ranked 1st whereas FMS ranked 4th.

But if you consider the ROI, FMS has an upper hand. Its incredibly lower fees in comparison to IIMs make it the best choice for people who are low on budget and don’t want to get involved with educational loans. It’s the best cost-effective MBA program in the country. The placements here are also at par with IIMs.

So choose IIMB over FMS only if

  • You can invest 20+ lakhs or are willing to take out a loan
  • If you are looking for a brand image more than just the essence of an MBA
  • You want to experience an impressive campus life

If these are your reasons for pursuing an MBA. IIM Bangalore is a better choice. Else go for FMS, nothing there will disappoint you.

Is FMS Delhi losing its touch?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 30th, 2023

No, I don't think that FMS is losing its touch.

Arguments in favor

  • Even now, the placement is excellent, on par with that of more established IIMs.
  • Superior return on investment.
  • The benefits of attending DU, include its many student organizations, rich tradition, and active club scene. All of this is unparalleled.
  • And you get to call Delhi home! The nation's administrative centre. This is where most things congregate.

Negative points includes

  • Small Campus size
  • The rankings aren't particularly good because they take into account things like a school's physical facilities, faculty, and student body as a whole.

To sum up, I'd want to emphasize that FMS is a highly regarded business school, should you be offered admission. Avail yourself of it.

You can apply to FMS Delhi through its official website. The process is online. You have to fill out the application form and submit it. For the general category, the application fee is Rs.1000, and Rs.350 for other categories.

There are 2 stages that a candidate goes through before getting selected for MBA Programme. The first stage is appearing for the CAT Exam conducted by the IIMs. On clearing the required cutoffs and the composite score, a candidate is called for the second round which comprises ofExtempore Speech and Personal Interview (PI).

Why are IIM A, B, and C valued over FMS, Delhi when the difference between the fees are so high?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

It is true that a person’s caliber can in no way be judged from the Business School that they have graduated from. In practice, however, things work very differently.

The general assumption is that if a candidate has secured a top rank in one of the most challenging exams and studied one of the top curriculums in the country, then they are really good in their field.

IIM A, B, and C have been around for a very long time and its graduates have carved a niche for themselves in the corporate world. Most companies in India and many abroad have IIM A, B, and C graduates in top positions. The alumni spread the goodwill of these institutions in silicon valley and other parts of the world, leading to international repute. These institutions are ‘brands’. An IIM A, B, and C brand opens numerous opportunities for you.

Judging IIMs based on ROI solely is not wise. Most IIM graduates end up paying their loans in a period of 3 to 5 years. Also, keep in mind that salary does not remain constant, it keeps increasing each year. Even if you take a loan to fund your MBA, it will be worth it.

If you get the opportunity to study at IIM A, B, or C you should grab it at the earliest.

FMS Delhi is better for an MBA. The institute is ahead of IIM Kozhikode in terms of fees, placement, ROI, cutoff, and other aspects.

FMS Delhi fees are only INR 1.92 lakhs, while the average CTC for the institute is INR 32.4 LPA. So, the return on investment is pretty good. Around 100+ companies participate in the placement drive each year.

The executive or part-time MBA Program offered by FMS Delhi is among the best in India. It is meant for

  • working professionals who aim to climb the career ladder within their existing jobs
  • people who want to improve their employability in other companies.

Therefore, it does not offer placement like it is offered in the FMS full-time MBA Program. But around 30% switched industry/companies. Around 5% became entrepreneurs.

The highest salary: > 60 LPA

Average Salary:  30 LPA
