Your marks are quite impressive. You can easily get into COE at Thapar University without much hassle. If you are unable to secure admissions in the branch you prefer then there are a few ways through which you would be able to acquire it.

Following are some of the ways that might benefit you:

  • Although the possibilities can be demanding, you must wait for final spot round counselling.
  • If everything works in your favor you might end up with the branch of your choice.
  • Appear for December Test to switch the branch held by you at the end of the first semester.
  • Be a hard worker in your studies to maintain a CGPA of 9.6 and above.

All these ways might help you increase your chances of changing your branch to COE in the second year.

What are the B.Tech timings at Thapar University?

RB
Rishabh Bimbraw Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

The college hours are mostly 8 am to 5 pm. But the timing depends on the schedule of the batch. The new batches have some additional subjects which are held and these often go up till 6 or 7 pm. The batches with electives may be held after 5 pm.

You will get an hour or two for lunch breaks in between when classes run till late. But this schedule is not regular as some days, the classes may be from 8 am-1 pm or 10 am-3 pm, thus it all depends on their class schedule. If the student needs to go out of campus, they must report back to the campus before 7 pm.

Can a student sit in placement session after getting placed in other company at Thapar University?

Yatika Mehla Posted On : February 19th, 2024

Based on the packages offered at Thapar University, the recruiting companies are divided into three categories- Category 1 companies offer 1 LPA- less than 4 LPA, Category 2 companies offer 4-8 LPA, and Category 3 companies offer more than 8 LPA.

Those who are selected in a category 3 company, can’t sit for further placements. Those who are selected in a category 2 company, can sit only for category 3 companies. Those who are selected for a category 1 company, can sit for both category 2 and category 3 companies. But each student can receive a maximum of 2 offers. Moreover, those who are placed in a “Dream Company” can’t appear for placements any further.

This is the complete information on receiving multiple placement offers at Thapar University.

What should be the order of preference for branches in Thapar University?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 3rd, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Trust me when I say there is no fixed order of preference for branches. The choice of branches is a very subjective matter and depends solely on your inclinations and future prospects.

Choosing a branch just because it has good opportunities and everyone is running for it does not mean it will be the perfect one for you. I have seen many students take CSE just because of the hype and then regret it later as they realize they have no interest in coding. I will suggest

  • Go for core branches like electrical and Civil if you aren’t sure of your interest and just want to land a stable government job.
  • Go for easy and light branches like chemistry if you are willing to pursue MBA.
  • Go for CSE or ECE, if your only goal is getting high packages in top companies.

So my personal preference order looks like this.

CSE>Software>IT>ECE >Electrical >EIC>Civil>Chemical>Biotechnology

Hope this was helpful!

How is the mechatronics branch of Thapar University?

GS
Gargi Sharma Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

The branch is new to the university but your scope in it will be really good. It is a blend of mechanical, electronics and control, software, and computer engineering.

According to the latest trends, this will be a really good combination for the latest job requirements. As a student, you will get to learn concepts on control, design, and analysis. Basically, as a mechatronics graduate, you will be a master of many domains. This is surely a major plus point and you will be able to use these skills for research purposes.

Just ensure that you will work hard since there is a lot of wide scope for post-graduation. This is mainly true for universities abroad. The placements are good too.

How difficult is to get a CGPA of 8.5 in first year in Thapar University?

YA
Yohan Awasti Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.E. from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

It is not at all a big deal to score 8.5 in the first year. Just focus during lecture hours and then just give a reading once in a while and dive into the books a little time before the exams especially during Midterms and End Semesters. This will fetch you great marks.

Also do take quizzes and sessionals seriously as they often become grade changes in many cases. Try to aim for 75 marks in each subject. Even if you fail, if you try you’ll end up getting 60+ in each subject and that is enough for getting 8.5 CGPA in the first year.

From where B.Tech is better? Thapar, Patiala or NIT Kurukshetra?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

There are several factors that you need to consider while making a choice.

NIT Kurukshetra is definitely much more economical than Thapar. There was a time when Thapar was superior to NIT Kurukshetra. But with time, things have changed a lot for both the colleges.

At NIT Kurukshetra, the teaching quality varies with departments. Most professors are very learned and supportive. The professors of ECE department are quite learned. However, they are also very strict with their students. The placements are good at both. You can check the placement scenario at Thapar and NIT Kurukshetra

NIT Kurukshetra and Thapar are both good colleges and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Can I recover my marks after very bad mid semester examinations to get 8.5+ CGPA in Thapar University?

KG
Kriti Goyal Posted On : August 3rd, 2023
Studied at Thapar University (2019)

Yes, you can certainly recover your marks even after a few bad mid-semester exams at Thapar University. One midterm will not affect your overall grades so you can rest your worries. One of my friends scored a 6.3 in his first semester but passed out of college with an 8.74 aggregate GPA. Here are a few tips that might help:

  • Stop playing video games completely.
  • But some new stationery and find a good company that motivates you to study.
  • Make a well-structured timetable for studies and follow it religiously.
  • Attend at least 90% of classes and tutorials to minimize the duration of self-study sessions.

You don't have to worry about your poor marks in mid-semesters as you still have time to improve.
