Before checking if your profile is eligible for getting shortlisted, let’s go through the admission criteria of IIM Trichy once.
Stage 1: Criteria for shortlisting candidates for PI
From your profile, your CAT percentile of 96.33 is enough to get you shortlisted for the PI round. Even your sectional cutoff is pretty good.
Stage 2: Criteria to Select Candidates post Personal Interview (PI)

Since your CAT percentile is already good, you need to work hard for your Personal Interview. In PI, you will be judged for the following:
Next comes the UG score which is calculated as - UG performance score = (percent score at UG * discipline weightage) * 0.5
In your case the total score will be- 25.704
You lack in the following areas
10th and 12th marks carry very little weightage. Still, you can compensate for these low marks by paying extra attention to your PI preparing and acing the interview. Another area where you have an upper hand is work experience.
So I will say your chances of converting IIM Trichy are not exactly low. With the right motivation and an excellent interview, you can increase your chances of getting a call. Your CAT percentile has already got you halfway there so put in extra some efforts to make it into IIM Trichy.
When it comes to choosing a business school, the competition is fierce and the options can be overwhelming. Three institutes that are considered to be among the top in the country are the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).
If you are interested in an operations profile, then VGSOM is a great choice. It is considered to be one of the best institutes in the country for operations specialization, after NITIE. Additionally, the return on investment (ROI) is high. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, may have a lower average package compared to the other two institutes, but it has the prestige of the IIM tag and a decent profile. The hostels are also fabulous, with single rooms available for students.
NMIMS is considered to be more costly and the batch strength is over 500 students. The top 150-200 students get superb packages and roles that are at par with other top B-schools, however, the next lot of students may have a lot of start-ups, etc. If you want to play safe, VGSOM or IIM Ranchi might be the best option.
However, if you are willing to take a risk, NMIMS might be a good choice as the profiles there are really good. It's ultimately up to you to decide which institute aligns best with your career goals and objectives. Rest assured, whichever institute you choose, you will be choosing a great institution as all three are among the top institutes in the country.
Both of these colleges belong in the same tier of B-School, but IIM Udaipur has a slight edge over IIM Trichy. IIM Udaipur is an academically driven place. You will get access to good learning opportunities. It also maintained a good placement record over the years. IIM Udaipur placements 2022 highlights the average and highest CTC offered was INR 19.5 LPA and INR 34.96 LPA.
In the long run, it can be argued that the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) may offer better opportunities for learning and growth compared to the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM). While an opportunity to learn from any IIM is certainly wonderful, it is worth noting that the IIMs are known for their rigorous academic programs and may push students very hard.
In terms of specific areas of study, IIM Trichy may have a stronger focus on finance compared to IIM Udaipur, but in other specializations, the two institutes may be relatively similar. However, IIM Udaipur may offer more support for entrepreneurs and may provide easier access to international exposure. Ultimately, the decision of which institute to attend should be based on an individual's priorities and goals.
IIM Trichy cutoff for 2022 was 93 percentile. Here are the cutoff highlights in detail.

The shortlisted students need to go through the PI-WAT round for final selection.
IIM Trichy is a better option compared to IIM Kashipur. It ranks higher than IIM Kashipur and has a better placement record. According to the NIRF 2022 ranking, IIM Trichy ranks among the top 20 B-Schools in the country.
The institute wrapped its 2022 placement drive with an average CTC of INR 17.01 LPA. The highest CTC offered this year was INR 34 LPA. Recruiters like Capgemini, Samsung, Accenture, JP Morgan, etc. were among the top recruiters that took part in IIM Trichy placements 2022.
When considering whether to attend a new or "baby" Indian Institute of Management (IIM) or a more established one, there are two key issues to consider.
Firstly, it is possible to graduate from a new IIM and secure a job that pays significantly more than your current 12 LPA job but it will depend on your performance in business school, and the better-established IIMs will have a greater probability of making this happen. For example, if you attend IIM Trichy or IIM Ranchi, your chances of securing a higher-paying job will be higher.
Secondly, and more importantly, the question is whether you should join a new IIM in your first attempt if you are already holding a 12 LPA job. It is recommended to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) again and try to get into a better college, preferably one of the top 6 IIMs or other reputable institutions such as FMS, SP Jain, or MDI.
This will provide a greater opportunity to secure a higher-paying job in the future. While it is true that a new IIM may offer good opportunities and placements, the chances of getting a better placement are higher in more established institutes, it is better to aim for these institutes on the first attempt.
The CAT cutoff for this year at IIM Trichy for the General Category is
Quantitative Aptitude |

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning |
70 |
Verbal & Reading Comprehension |
70 |
Total (Overall Percentile) |
92 |
For female candidates, an extra 1% will be awarded in calculating your final total score for admission.
Despite the cutoff, a certain percentile cannot guarantee your admission. This is because the CAT score is a major but not the only parameter which constitutes the admission criteria. Other factors include the Personal Interview, Work Experience, Gender Diversity, and past academic records. Moreover, your rank also depends on the collective performance of your entire batch.
I don’t see any logic behind studying for CAT while already studying at a good IIM like Trichy. It is a leading B School based on almost all parameters like faculty, infrastructure, and placements.
But if you even consider studying for the CAT, let me tell you it’s impossible. This is because the curriculum is very rigorous and even 24 hours a day will seem less to match the hectic schedule. You will be busy with quizzes, assignments, resume preparation, club activities, and academics. It is advisable you make the best out of these activities rather than spending your time preparing for CAT.
Even if you do prepare and get into IIM A B or C, do you have a convincing answer as to why you left Trichy?
Personally, I will suggest you be satisfied with Trichy and invest your passion in becoming among the top students and getting the best package during placements. Focus on a single achievable goal rather than multiple unachievable goals.
