Is economics honors a better option or IPM offered at IIM Indore?

SJ
Shrey Jain Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Studied at Integrated Program in Management, IIM Indore (Graduated 2021)

Firstly Economics Honours required an in-depth study of Economics whereas the IPM program focuses on the many areas of Management. There is a drastic difference between the nature of both courses. No doubt Economics knowledge is beneficial for the IPM program but is not necessarily important. In IPM, Economics is just a 4 credit course in a term of about 30 credits.

IPM hugely emphasizes Quants over Economics. So if you are more interested in Economics, then IPM is not for you. Your choice should be a good college from DU North Campus. If you manage to get into one then pursuing Economic Honors is a much-preferred option over IPM. Don’t choose a below-average college for Economic Honors. In that case, go for IPM only.

Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

AR
Arnav Roy Posted On : July 24th, 2023
Lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

While my brother was preparing a list of top colleges offering Political Hons, he never came across St. Xavier’s Kolkata while Delhi University and Hindu College specifically topped his list. This in itself proves Hindu College to be better than St. Xavier’s. Additionally, most of the teachers and seniors advised him to choose Hindu.

He was lucky enough to clear the cutoff and join the college. To date, he has no regrets about his decision. The best part of the institute is its superior location in Delhi. The crowd this college welcomes is another reason he was inclined towards it. The seniors are very cooperative and ragging is not tolerated.

The faculty pool comprises professors from top national and international universities. Most of the students pursuing political science either target Civil services or are inclined toward international relations and other political issues. While many may find flaws here because it’s a government college, trust me in the long run it’s your efforts and talents that matter. A college can only provide for you; it is you who has to make the most out of it.

Yes, you can migrate from DAV College Chandigarh to PU main campus in your 2nd year of BA

You just need to know about the requirements for doing so. These could include: marks required or seats vacancy, etc.

The students involved in the youth elections will be able to guide you. Try getting a hold of a person who is a party member. He may be able to get you in, by admission or by referral.

Also note that there could be a slight chance that in PU, the reference required has to be powerful or influential.

Can I do BA with psychology after dropping 2nd yr Diploma in engineering?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 24th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

It's understandable that you may be considering a change in your field of study, especially as a 2nd-year student. To determine if psychology is the right fit for you, first, you should do some research and gain a better understanding of the field. While many people consider this field as cool and interesting, the reality is far from this.

Psychology is a difficult field unless you are genuinely interested in it and are certain about pursuing a career in it. A career is a long-term shot and you should be determined to go for a PhD from a top institute. Many times people are attracted to a certain field only to find later that they just wanted a way out of engineering. It's very necessary to do a self-analysis.

Also, I would like to clear the misconception that you don't have to get your bachelors in the same field as your master's. Unless you are planning to get a master's or doctorate, a bachelor's in psychology is not an easy degree to find a comfortable living after graduating. You can just take a minor in psychology in order to meet the eligibility criteria to enter many graduate school programs. But, if you want to pursue a research-based Ph.D. program you will likely need to get actual research experience, which may be harder if you only did a minor.

Additionally, you can read up on the latest research and articles in psychology, and explore different subfields of psychology, such as clinical, developmental, social, and cognitive psychology. It's important to remember that changing majors can be a big decision, and it may take some time to determine if psychology is right for you.

Does Tamil Nadu open university degree BA in an English literature certificate have value in Kerala universities?

SP
Sreeja Prasad Posted On : November 3rd, 2020
CSE from IIT Bhubaneswar (2020)

Tamil Nadu Open University the first Open University of Chennai located in the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. The courses offered by University are recognized by UGC, NCTE, RCI, and DEB. Various UG and PG programs such as BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, MBA, MCA, MA, MSc, and various certificate and vocational courses are offered to candidates including BA in English.

BA English literature is the most common course among the students of humanities and various specializations under humanities. However, distance education programs for BA hold lesser value. Here are a few highlights about the BA in English program offered by the institute.

Curriculum:

  • The syllabus of the BA English program follows a credit system. In the 1st 2 years, students are required to complete 36 credits and in the 3rd year, there are 32 credits.

  • In 1st and 2nd year, along with English, students need to study another language, such as Tamil, Urdu, French, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu.

  • The course curriculum includes the Age of Chaucer, Restoration Age, Romantic Age, Victorian Age, Social History of England, American Literature, Modern English Literature, Introduction to Literary Criticism and Theories, Introduction to Language & Linguistics, etc.

Infrastructure:

  • The college has a top-class library and facilities like canteens and classrooms are also available.

  • The infrastructure of the college is fairly good and Wi-Fi facilities are not available for students.

  • Classrooms and the library are very big with lots of subject-oriented books and journals.

Faculty:

  • TNOU has vast faculty members with more than 15 years of teaching experience.

  • Most of the faculty members are Ph.D. holders in their respective fields or disciples.

  • All of them are very fluent in English and the local language Tamil. They always try to attend to each student separately and clear their doubts.

Placement:

  • TNOU offers a variety of Seminars, Guest Lectures, webinars, Conferences, Corporate Meets, Personality Development & Communication Skills Programs, and Counselling Sessions to prepare the candidates before the placements drive.

  • Till now TNOU has successfully placed 60,000 students.

  • The salary packages offered to the students ranged between rupees 15000-25000 per month.

One should try to find out if the University has a good background for the degree you are seeking admission into. The university does not have to be a government university. For instance, an MBA from IGNOU and symbiosis always has a higher value than a distance MBA from any IIM but a full-time course at IIM could match nothing. So do your research and choose accordingly.

Which is better for a BA Hons. Economics Hindu College or Hansraj College?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 7th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Even though both colleges hold immense prestige and boast of their academic excellence, for many, Hindu College stands ahead of Hansraj College for Economics Honors. Many students consider Hindu College to be in 4th position in terms of Economics studies, after St.Stephens, SRCC, and LSR.

Some highlights of Hindu College are-

Post-graduation studies- The students pursuing their Economics (Hons) from Hindu College get the opportunity to join prestigious institutions for further studies. To name a few-

  • Oxford University, Delhi School of Economics, London School of Economics
  • University of Bath, Warwick University, and other prominent universities of the UK
  • IIM (including IIM Bangalore), XLRI, FMS, SP Jain, MDI, and other prestigious business schools in India
  • Placements- Students are offered positions in firms such as Google, Jaypee Trading, KPMG, DE Shaw, and others. Some students even receive multiple offers
  • My sisters’ batchmates (2010 graduates) are currently placed in top Private Equity firms, Top investment banks, and consulting firms of great prestige. Some secured much-revered government positions as IAS and IFS officers.

Though these are not statistical figures for an accurate comparison, the data can still provide important insight and value judgment on Hindu College.

Ultimately, it is a matter of individual preference regarding which college you choose. Both colleges offer students immense opportunities, in fact even similar opportunities, so to say.

Also, some of my friends do mention that the economics faculty at Hansraj might be better than the one at Hindu.

How better is Shyam Lal College evening for a B.A. Hons in political science?

PS
Priya Sen, Posted On : November 3rd, 2021
studied at University of Delhi (2018)

One of my friends studied at Shyam Lal College (SLC) Evening. Let me share his views about the college which might give you some information.

  • The overall performance of the faculty is average. Ad-hoc teachers only take regular classes.
  • The student crowd is not good. Students who are focused on their career are less, therefore have no sense of enthusiasm or competition.
  • The library is not good. Lots of study materials are unavailable.
  • Due to careless teaching and less dedication in studies, the students during the internals are bound to get low scores.
  • No extracurricular activities take place. Societies are for namesake. They exist only on papers.

It is suggested that you opt for other colleges because if you are very ambitious, you might get disheartened studying here.
