The situation of B.Tech Chemical at MANIT Bhopal is much better on paper than in real life.

The curriculum looks brilliant on paper, but the department faculty is relatively inexperienced to stick to it in a proper manner. The placement scenario is average, yet better than the situation of some other core branches at MANIT.

In case you want to choose Chemical only to switch to some other branch later on, make sure to maintain good grades in your first year. However, at the same time, research on the opportunities in Chemical Engineering. You might not get a branch switch. Under such circumstances, you’ll have to stick to Chemical for the remaining part of your B.Tech degree.

This field has a lot of opportunities in the government sector, private sector, IT sector and research. Chemical Engineers are considered as mainstream engineers in process and manufacturing plants. So make sure to research well before choosing Chemical Engineering.

You won’t regret joining Chemical at MANIT. At the end, everything will depend upon how much effort you are willing to put in.

As a student of B.Tech Chemical at MANIT, here are my personal experiences of the Chemical Engineering department-

PROS

  1. The batch strength is around 60, which is quite small as compared to other branches. Because of this reason, you will get to have one-on-one interactions with your teachers.
  2. The department HOD and senior faculty members are extremely helpful. They genuinely care about the students of their department.
  3. Though the department is not very old, it records decent placements each year.
  4. The number of classes are fewer for B.Tech Chemical, so you’ll get ample time to prepare for GATE, CAT, GRE, or any other competitive exam.
  5. The department has better infrastructure than the others, and its labs have improved over the past few years.

CONS

  1. The department does not have Professors, and the senior most faculty consists of Assistant Professors only. This heavily impacts the standards, especially because MANIT is an Institute of National Importance.
  2. The department lacks permanent faculty, and most courses are taken up by contract faculty. These teachers are extremely rude, egoistic, and underqualified.
  3. MANIT follows relative grading, but the department has a strange method of evaluating grades. No one is given a perfect 10 in any subject, even if the score is 97/98. This destroys the purpose of relative grading.
  4. The department has no library, and the college library also needs a lot of improvement.

You’ll have a mixed experience at the Chemical department of MANIT Bhopal. Nevertheless, I would suggest you make the most of your time at this college.
