CUSAT hostel fee is pretty minimal. You need to pay around INR 300/month.
Although the fees for CUSAT hostel are nominal, the quality of living can’t be compared to other government colleges like NITs and IITs. Washrooms and other facilities aren’t at optimum standard. But if you compare it with the amount then the facilities are sufficient.
The hostels don’t have wi-fi facilities, so you will have to depend on local ISP. Also, there is no guarantee that you will get a hostel room in the 1st year itself. Many freshers have faced this and got hostel rooms, generally in 3rd or 4th year.
All the hostels at CUSAT colleges are quite pocket friendly when compared to the other similar hostels. But it must be noted that there are a number of flaws in terms of room allotment.
One of my friends had a very bad experience at the hostels. He took admission as an M.Tech student and opted for a hostel. He paid the fee in advance but didn’t get any details of the room allotment. The students were promised the room within a week but it stretched up to 1 month. They decided to stay in a private hostel and kept visiting the hostel for 1 month.
After struggling for so long, the warden gave them an explanation stating that some students are illegally staying in PG hostels even after passing out. The administration level at CUSAT is not good and hostels are not taken care of properly. Wardens lack support from their superior which leads to illegal stay among students. There are instances at the hostel where students did not get a room for 6 months and struggled badly.
There are strict rules and regulations about ragging at the hostels and all the first years are allotted a completely different hostel to prevent all forms of ragging. They have actually taken serious steps to ensure that ragging is put to a stop.
Hostel Mess
There are numerous popular hostel stories that have been doing internet rounds for quite some time now and all of them are interesting to read. Countless students have found homes beneath those walls and created countless stories of their own with their experiences.
