Yes, you can prepare for GATE while doing an M.Tech from IET Lucknow. You will have to self study and make a schedule that works for you. There are GATE coaching centers near IET. If you opt for hostel accommodation, you can easily manage your coursework and preparation for GATE.
Taking IET Lucknow’s CSE will be a better option. In terms of academics and placements, it is an excellent choice. According to IET Lucknow placement highlights, CSE students receive salary packages in the range of INR 5-12 LPA. Top MNCs like Google, Amazon, etc. recruit from the campus drive. Students also perform well in competitive examinations such as GATE, CAT, etc.
You will have the option to prepare for JEE while attending IET as well.
Well, it depends on many factors but most importantly on luck.
After 1st round of counseling, you have not been allotted a fee waiver. You are behind a lot of students but those are toppers who hold much better ranks than you. If they have the required rank they may get some better colleges maybe even some NITs.
If they leave or shift and you are just below them, then you can get the fee waiver seats after their vacancy. However, you need to have better rankings from your fellow compatriots as well. Otherwise, the next best candidate will be offered the seat.
The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Lucknow admits students to its undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) through the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE).
The cutoff for admission to these programs through UPSEE varies each year and depends on several factors, including the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, and the availability of seats in each program.
However, based on the previous year's trends, to get admission to IET Lucknow, you would need to score a rank under 1000 (approximately) in the UPSEE exam for CSE, IT, and ECE programs.
It's important to note that the cutoff score for each program offered at IET Lucknow is different, and you will need to check the official website of the institute for the specific cutoff score for the program you are interested in.
Additionally, meeting the cutoff score is only one of the eligibility criteria for admission to IET Lucknow. The institute considers other factors such as the candidate's academic performance, the number of applicants for a program, and the reservation policies, among others, for final admission decisions.
One of my cousins is part of the institute and has varied opinions. Primarily, it depends on the faculty of the institute. Other than that, here are things he says are essential to note,
Other than that, always be vigilant. Hope this helps answer your query, wish you all the best!
If you have secured a general rank of 9758 in the UPSEE examination, the probability of you getting admission into branches like CSE, IT, ECE, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering in IET Lucknow is less.

I have a friend pursuing engineering in IET Lucknow, here are some tips for you.
There is almost no chance to get a seat in IET Lucknow according to your rank. If you will be lucky then you can get a seat. You can change branches after completing the first year.
You will require a good SGPA in both of your semester exams and should be getting under the top 10 then only you will get into the CS branch.
It completely depends upon your overall academic credential, alongside the general girls’ rank. However, it is not quite easy securing a seat at IET Lucknow. On the flip side, it also partially depends on the number of students actually enrolling in IET, Lucknow. It has a huge role to play, nonetheless.
Here is the required cutoff (girls) in recent years, for all the courses followed in IET, Lucknow.
Course Structure | Opening Rank | Closing Rank |
For a 4 - Year B.E. or B.Tech. Course | ||
B.Tech in Chemical Engineering | 2111 | 2428 |

IET Lucknow is among the top-rated institutes in the country that is affiliated with Dr. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) while MMM Gorakhpur has been reconstructed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
There is no such huge difference between IET Lucknow and MMM Gorakhpur. The quality of the faculties and the college infrastructure is good in both of these colleges. As per the GATE score and IES, the ratio of students of both of these colleges who qualify for the entrance exams is the same every year.
The main difference among both of these institutes lies in terms of placements. Here are the placement highlights.
Particulars | IET Lucknow | MMM Gorakhpur |
Highest CTC | INR 36 LPA | INR 8 LPA |
Average CTC | INR 5 LPA | INR 3.5 LPA |
Top recruiters | Amazon, Unacademy, D E Shaw & Co, Barclays, Code Nation, Go Speedy Go, Yamaha, Humming Wave, etc. | TCS, Infosys, Microsoft, Wipro, Juspay, Prism cement ltd, Global logic, etc. |
The difference seen in placements is due to the number of companies that visit the college, IET is near to NCR region and due to its location, it has better placements than MMMUT.
