Which is a better option: an MTech in food at NIFTEM or an MS in food at CFTRI for a BE graduate?

AB
Abhinandan Banerjee Posted On : November 20th, 2021
M.Tech from National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (2020)

Among NIFTEM and CFTRI, the former is a better option. It is unique and the grooming and exposure that you will get at the campus are better than any other campus that offer food technology degrees.

For a post-graduate degree, textbook learning may not be up to the mark. But if you are industry-oriented then, it is one of the best options for you.

For the first two semesters, you will need to study around 8-9 subjects and do two visits under Village Adoption Programme. For the third semester, you will have to do a semester-long internship. You will be evaluated based on the projects that you handle during your internship. For your final semester, you can get your internship extended, get a PPO in a company, or come back to campus and take a research project. In recent years the highest CTC offered at the institute was 8-10 LPA.

Yes, if you get a chance you must apply to CFTRI. It is one of the best colleges for food technology studies.

You will get a lot of industrial exposure and practical knowledge. Also the scope of food technology is very high in the southern regions of India. It is assured that you will have a great experience overall.

The only complication is the application process. They only accept candidates who had Mathematics in their 12th standard. Also, you have to qualify the entrance test to secure a seat there.

What is better to do M.Sc. from CFTRI Mysore or M.Tech from abroad?

RG
Rajit Ghosh, Posted On : November 22nd, 2021
B.Tech in Food Science and Technology & Food Business Management, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) (2020)

An MSc. from CFTRI Mysore is considered to be one of the best for food technology in India. It has been the pioneer in providing quality education in food. But you need to keep in mind that it is a government institution. Therefore it has its own limitations, in terms of research, funds and several other things.

On the other hand if you choose to go abroad, your guide has full autonomy for the funds. They take the responsibility of spending the money and what projects to pursue or not. It is known that colleges abroad have better facilities and better working conditions. Indian institutes lack this although they have state of the art facilities but they are of no match for the colleges abroad.

Also, the hard work you will put in to get into CFTRI is much more than getting admission in any college abroad. They also provide better returns. If your financial background is good you can then choose to go abroad rather than studying in India.
