One of my friends graduated from JNTUH in Transportation Engineering. Here is his review of the M.Tech courses offered at JNTUH.
According to my friend, it’s better to keep JNTUH as your second preference. Choose Osmania University, if you have an option.
Unfortunately, the ground reality is very grim for TS PGECET candidates. For example, there is a candidate who marginally cleared GATE, and then, there’s another who scored rank 1 in TS PGECET. Both will have their names on the counseling list, but the GATE qualifier will be given priority over the TS PGECET topper. This makes your chances of getting into OU and JNTUH very slim as the competition is quite high for both these colleges.
Unfortunately, there is no proper answer to this question. In reality, GATE qualifiers are preferred by JNTUH over PGECET rank holders. Even Rank 1 in PGECET can not guarantee your admission to JNTUH.
But to give you a concrete number, you must get at least rank 50, unless you want a less popular branch like Biomedical Engineering. But then again, most of the seats are filled at JNTUH by GATE qualifiers.
It will be better if you prepare for GATE instead of PGECET, to get an M.Tech seat in JNTUH or Osmania.
To calculate your percentage from SGPA, you must first know your CGPA. There is a simple formula for that. It is-
CGPA= Credits*SGPA/Total number of credits
Suppose you got 7 and 8.5 SGPA in your first two semesters respectively, and there are 25 credits in each semester. Then, your CGPA will be-
(25*7+ 25*8.5)/50= 7.75
Thus, your CGPA for the first year will be 7.75.
Next, to calculate CGPA from percentage, you need to follow this formula-
Percentage= (CGPA- 0.75)*10
In this hypothetical scenario, your percentage will turn out to be-
(7.75-0.75)*10=70
So, your percentage in the first year will be 70%.
This is how you can figure out your CGPA and percentage from your SGPA. Moreover, you can figure out your semester-wise percentage by replacing CGPA with SGPA in the percentage formula.
If you have missed the last date for applying for an Original Degree (OD) at JNTUH, you may still be able to apply for it by paying a late fee. However, the availability of this option and the amount of the late fee may vary depending on the rules and regulations of JNTUH.
It is advisable to contact the JNTUH Examination Branch or the concerned department at the earliest and explain your situation. They may be able to provide you with more information and guidance on what steps you can take next.
In some cases, it may not be possible to apply for an OD after the deadline has passed. In such a situation, you may need to wait for the next cycle of OD applications or explore other options such as applying for a duplicate certificate or transcript.
Doing an M.Tech in EC is better at JNTUH. Though Osmania University is an old institution with a history of more than 100 years, it lacks in PG and Ph.D. courses.
JNTUH on the contrary has a good reputation along with great infrastructure and strict guidelines in terms of the faculty members. The university cross-checks the background of each faculty member who will be teaching the students every year.
The following table shows a brief insight into both institutions:
Particulars | OU | JNTUH |
Placement percent | 70% | 80% |
Highest CTC | INR 20 LPA | INR 17 LPA |
Average CTC | INR 5 LPA | INR 9.5 LPA |
Lowest CTC | INR 2 LPA | INR 3.5 LPA |
Top recruiting companies | Infosys, CTC, BEL, Wipro Tech, BEML | TCS, Oracle, MRC, Vedanta, ZOHO |
In terms of curriculum, JNTUH follows the latest syllabus and has a strict attendance system. It has a biometric attendance system and you can be detained if you have less than 75% attendance. If you are looking forward for higher education in engineering, go for JNTUH.
IIIT Sri City is better than JNTU Hyderabad. It has a better peer group which is reflected in the higher cutoff requirements. IIIT Sri City follows the course structure and curriculum of IIIT Hyderabad. So, you will receive better learning and resources.
The institute has maintained an excellent placement record over the years. Companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Amazon, etc. take part in IIIT Sri City placements. The average CTC offered is around INR 6 LPA.
The fee structure at JNTUH for the popular courses is as follows.
All the fees mentioned above are for the first year. The fee for IDDMP courses is INR 70,000 per semester.
The structure of the fees also depends on the reimbursement of the same and the Management Quota. The fee reimbursement candidates get an exception of fees of INR 35,000 and they will have to pay a fee of INR 65,000 a year.
The candidates in the management quota have an understanding with the college department that is mutual. The bracket price comes around to 4 or 5 lakhs once you have completed the degree.
I will suggest that you don’t apply for the intermediate analogy in Graduation. It's a way you can easily pass the subjects based on your convenience throughout the full time of the course. You won’t get any stars in your memo but you will have a memo for each supplementary you write.
The individual memos help you in applying to foreign universities. For other applications, you require a Consolidated Marks Memo which can be easily obtained after clearing all papers. These memos have stars even if you pass in all subjects.
Hope this helped you!
