What is your review of Tezpur University?

AR
Anindya Roy Posted On : October 16th, 2021
M.Sc. Physics, Tezpur University (2017)

One of my friends attended Tezpur University. His experience with the university has not been good. Here are some of the things that she shared with me.

  • The administration there is headed by only one person and the VC is not cooperative.
  • You will get in trouble if any of your batch mates get involved in any misbehavior.
  • Attending classes there is very important and otherwise, you may not be allowed to do your internships.
  • The library is inadequate. The wifi facility on campus is also not that good.
  • The placement record of the institute is average. The average CTC offered at the recent placement drive was 3.5 LPA.

So, if you have other better options go for it.

JB
Jayshree Bhagat Posted On : June 2nd, 2021
(Ph.D.) Research Scholar at Tezpur University (2019)

One of my friends studied Mechanical at Tezpur University. Let me share his experiences and knowledge about the college. He, being a student there, will know the intricacies of the college and how they function.

  • Faculty: The mechanical department hosts a really good faculty. Most of them are good at teaching and all of them have a great research-oriented mindset.
  • Projects: About 80% of the projects are based on numerical simulations. These include optimization, analysis, modeling, developing CFD solvers, Comsol modeling and the rest are mainly experimental.
  • Specialization: The department mainly started its M.Tech course in 2013 with a specialization in Applied mechanics. The Thermal and Fluid Engineering specialization began in 2016 and from 2018 onwards, another specialization in Machine Design was also started. The department is definitely growing with time.

Placement:

Categories

Mechanical at Tezpur University

Course Fee

2.00 lakh

Highest CTC

6 LPA

Average CTC

3.5 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Dabur, Oil India Ltd, Patanjali, Cummins India Ltd, etc.

Overall, the mechanical department at Tezpur University is not as good as IITs but it is much better than many private as well as newly built NITs in the country.

Students are getting placed, but why are the pay packages of the B.Tech students of Tezpur University so low? Is it bound to improve in the upcoming years?

SR

studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Tezpur University

A few of my friends graduated from Tezpur University. Here is their insight on the placement issue.

The engineering department of the institute is relatively new. It will take some time for the institute to create its credibility and an alumni base. The brand value of any institute is a product of these two factors. So, TU will still need a few years to become recognized among the recruiter circle.

According to my friends, the university needs to be a little liberal in their internship rules too. As of now, students are not allowed to take external internships. This is a wastage of opportunity since many recruiters recruit students after the completion of their internships.

Studied at Tezpur University

I have a few friends from Tezpur University. According to them, the hostel facilities at the institute are quite good.

  • WiFi - Most of the time the campus WiFi works well. However, you will have to deal with crappy connectivity from time to time.
  • Food - Food offered at the mess is average. You are allowed to use the gas in mess to cook too.
  • Canteen - Almost all hostel have their separate canteens, that stay open all night.
  • Peers - At the beginning, it can be challenging to blend in, but with time it gets easier.
  • Common room - It is a great hangout spot. You can play various games like carrom, table tennis. You can also catch up on sports programs on tv.

Overall, the hostel facilities on TU are decent.

Which one is good Tezpur University or NIT Silchar or NIT Agartala?

TA

All three colleges are good engineering colleges and each of them has their unique pros and cons. For instance,

In terms of placements and academics, the preference order would be

  • NIT Silchar>NIT Agartala>Tezpur University

In terms of campus life, the preference order would be

  • Tezpur University>NIT Agartala>NIT Silchar

As a whole, NITs are well known for their excellent placements, brand name, faculty, and elaborate alumni network whereas Tezpur University is known for its widespread beautiful campus, research culture, and extracurricular activities.

So, you can choose the college that meets your expectations of college life.

Which one is better for a B.Tech Assam Engineering College or Tezpur University?

DR
Dinesh Rawal, Posted On : November 11th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Tezpur University (2013)

It is better to go for B.Tech at Tezpur University (TU) than Assam Engineering College (AEC). Following are the reasons for the same:

  • TU has great faculty and infrastructure, and you will get a lot of exposure.
  • The only drawback is the lack of placements. Being a new institution very few companies visit the college.
  • AEC on the other hand, is very old, and has a strong alumni network.
  • Placement is better at AEC compared to TU, but still it keeps fluctuating which makes students unsure.
Categories B.Tech at AEC B.Tech at TU
Course Fee INR 44,000 1.76 lakh
Placement Percentage 80% 50%
Highest CTC 17 LPA 14 LPA
Average CTC 6 LPA 3.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Capgemini, IBM, Wipro, Reliance, etc. SAP Labs, Amazon, Intel, Dabur, etc.

If your aim is to get a job right after your graduation, then you should join AEC. But if you are interested more in research and exposure and want to opt for higher studies, TU will be a better option.

Which is better academically (preferably CSE and ECE branch), NIT Manipur. NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim, NIT Nagaland or Tezpur University?

DG
Dona Ghosh, Posted On : November 11th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Tezpur University (2020)

Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision.

  • If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.
  • Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing.
  • Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.
  • You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU.
  • Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.
  • Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.
  • The two departments are much older too.
  • The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.
  • TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs.

Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.

B.Tech Civil Engineering, Tezpur University (2020)

The criteria for admission to Tezpur University vary according to different courses. The details are as follows:

  • For B.tech, you have to appear for JEE Mains examination based on its score your application would be considered.
  • However, 60% of seats for B.Tech are reserved for North East students and 40% of seats are available for all the other candidates across the country.
  • For post-graduation courses, Tezpur University conducts its own entrance examination named TUEE. Which is conducted in both the northeastern part and across the major cities of the country like Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.
  • Tezpur University accepts GATE scores for the M.Tech program.

Therefore, the admission procedure is quite hassle-free if your application fulfills the requirements accordingly.

Which is better for MBA, NIT Silchar or Tezpur university?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 12th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

NIT Silchar is an engineering college so its MBA program isn’t exactly very credible. Tezpur University is a much better option than NIT Silchar in terms of faculty, exposure, and job opportunities. One needs to bear in mind that the reputation of the program matters more than the reputation of the institute.

Here are a few pros and cons of joining NIT Silchar for an MBA program

  • NIT Silchar's MBA fees is INR 1.6 Lakhs which is much less compared to the MBA fees of other B Schools.
  • The companies visiting mainly target BTech students and only the mediocre roles are offered to MBA students.
  • The infrastructure, hostels, and other facilities are great
  • Silchar has a pleasant climate throughout the year
  • The campus life is very vibrant with many events taking place back to back.

Cons:

  • The remote location of Silchar poses many connectivity issues.
  • There is almost zero industrial exposure offered to the students.
  • Some faculties are below average

So, so NIT Silchar is a decent choice for an MBA only if you failed to make it to the IIMs, private B Schools, IITs, other NITs, and Tezpur University.
