Is it true that aeronautical engineering branch in Madras Institute of Technology had the least placements this year?

KG
Kinjal Ghosh Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology (2019)

Yes, not only this year but for the last 5-6 years, MIT Aeronautical Engineering has been facing a lot of trouble in general.

  • The primary reason is that it is one of the university departments of Anna University.
  • In India, there are fewer core companies, and they mostly visit the IITs and NITs.
  • Most of the students are attending IITs and NITs, which also decreases the number of students getting admission in MIT.
  • Exams are used by public sector companies such as DRDO and ISRO to hire employees, and students had to apply after completing their undergraduate degrees.
  • The curriculum isn't very good, in comparison to other streams.
  • Some businesses require specialization, so they opt for P.G.
  • There was no proper guidance from the staff. This is a major issue in the department.
Categories Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology
Course Fee 2 lakh
Highest CTC 23 LPA
Average CTC 10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Defense Research and Development Organisation, ISRO, NASA etc.

Anna University's core placements are declining at a faster rate, and this is not limited to the Aeronautical department. If your goal is to get a job, then it is suggested that you do not go for Aeronautical Engineering at MIT.

What will be the cutoff for the Madras Institute of Technology 2018 (aeronautical engineering)?

SR
Sritama Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu (2016)

The cut-off marks are generally very high for aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology. This may vary according to the category you belong to.

  • If you are a general category student then the cut off marks will be 198 or more.
  • It will be 196 for BC, 194 for BCM, 195 for MBC and 190 for SC/ST students.

The cut off marks are decided based upon the percentage of subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths specially.

Suppose if you are a state board student, then the total marks would be 200. If the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Maths are 190,196,195 respectively then the percentage is -

Physics

[190/200 x 100] = 95%

Chemistry

[196/200 x 100] = 98%

Maths

[195/200 x 100] = 97.5 %

Cut Off

97.5 +[(95+98) ÷ 2] = 194

The cut off marks are very high for aeronautical engineering. You must score very good marks and get higher rankings in order to secure a seat in this branch. The competition is also too high.

What is the ranking of Madras Institute of Technology in aerospace engineering in India?

DR
Danna Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
B.tech from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

The ranking of Madras Institute of Technology doesn't really matter because there is no scope for Aerospace Engineering in India. It may sound very good in the beginning but after joining this course you will face difficulties. It will create a negative viewpoint for this course and you will feel like dropping this course after 1 or 2 years.

The placements of this branch are also very poor due to less demand in the industry. Securing a job at Hindustan Aeronautics or ISRO will be a little difficult due to fewer openings. ISRO recruits most of the engineers from IISc, so you might have to wait for a few years to get a job there. You can also do MS abroad and then try getting a decent job over there.

Categories

Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology

Course Fee

2.00 lakh

Median Salary Package

13.6 LPA

Though this is one of the most difficult courses in engineering, still no one cares much about it and thus has very less demand too. It will be better if you can opt for any other branch rather than choosing Aerospace engineering.

Does having a BE course of aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology have a wise choice?

RS
Rinku Sharma Posted On : July 17th, 2021
B.E. Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology

BE in Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology is not a good option if you are genuinely interested in the subject. The points below give sufficient reasons supporting the cause.

  • In Aeronautical Engineering at MIT, most of the faculties are not good in core concepts of Aerospace. Most of them have good concepts in Thermodynamics and Structures only.
  • Almost no faculty in MIT teaches concepts in system integration or flying in general. There is no class to teach at least design a plane out of paper.
  • The management of MIT doesn’t allot proper projects and doesn’t allow anyone to get associated with some good ongoing projects.
  • Most of the students who come to MIT for an M.Tech or Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering are just interested in getting the degree. Very few are interested in doing some work in fields related to research.
  • Students at MIT are not allowed to go for internships, even if they succeed in getting one at some recognized or even international institutes.
  • The curriculum of Aeronautical Engineering is not at all properly designed, being developed without any proper introductory knowledge of mechanics. It forces the students to follow the teachers’ notes, preventing them from indulging in self-study, projects, and group activities.

The best choice for students interested in this subject is to go for mechanical engineering in some other college, maybe a one with a lower cut-off even. After that, he/she can opt for an M.S. or M.E. in Aerospace Engineering, having a strong base in mechanics from UG.

Is Acharya Institute of Technology the best for studying aeronautical engineering?

SS
Sunit Sharma Posted On : July 5th, 2021
Studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Acharya Institute of Technology (2018)

The B.E program in Aeronautical Engineering at Acharya Institute of Technology is a good course to undertake. Here is why.

  • The faculty and the teaching pedagogy are good.
  • The teaching curriculum is also better compared to similar ranked colleges. Scoring marks in the internal exams is quite easy which helps you in the end semester exams and thus your grades.
  • You are a fresher and the branch itself is a bit of a niche. So you cannot expect many core companies to come here for placements unless you are from any top-tier institute like the NITs or IITs. According to the recent placement highlights the highest and average CTC offered to the Aeronautical Engineering students are 5 LPA and 4 LPA respectively.

One of my friends did his Aeronautical Engineering degree from Acharya Institute of Technology and vouches for the course. If you are interested in the course then you can surely join it. You will have a good future in the field if you work hard.

Does Acharya Institute of Technology provide internship training in companies for aeronautical engineers?

KS
Krishna Shrivastava Posted On : March 19th, 2021
Studied at Acharya Institute of Technology

For students in Aeronautical Engineering, there are very limited opportunities in India for graduates. There are several instances in which students, even after interning from top organizations and universities, fail to frame a proper career in Aeronautical Engineering.

One of my friends graduated from Acharya Institute of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering, and he was considered to be the topper of the batch. He did a paid internship from Canada, which was organized by the college itself. He went to several renowned places like Bombardier’s engine manufacturing unit, etc during the internship period of 3 months. Even after such an opportunity, he failed to achieve a proper career in Aeronautics. He was a hard-working and skilled candidate but landed in a mechanical designing firm with a low-paying job.

Industry Trends:

  • In India, the market in Aeronautics is not yet established properly. Though Aeronautical Engineering is an excellent stream, one must have to be 6-7 years ahead to grasp a proper opportunity.
  • The only chances of employment for graduates in Aeronautical Engineering are the Indian Air Force, some moderately operational airline companies with a small number of maintenance staff, and finally, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
  • Candidates who have completed master’s degrees from foreign institutes or IITs in Aeronautics have a relatively higher chance of getting jobs. Companies like Boeing India, UTC, Honeywell, Airbus India, Sirkosky, Tata Strategic Defense, etc recruit such candidates.

Course Curriculum:

The curriculum followed in Aeronautical Engineering at Acharya Institute of Technology is old and not proper according to industry needs.

Therefore, although the institute provides training and internships to students in Aeronautical Engineering, there is a lack of demand for such engineers in the market and so it is not a good option.
