MS in Applied Mechanics at IIT Madras (2020)

Yes, it is worth it. But, you should go for it only if you're keen on it.

Having said that, if you are about to pursue MS, then you are clearly more inclined towards research activities.

Their basic difference between M.Tech and MS is that M.Tech is a time-oriented course pursued following a B.Tech, while MS is completely a research-oriented program.

However, you cannot ensure yourself a job profile following the completion of MS in India. India is not generally famous for having higher scopes for R & D. If you are planning for future multi-disciplinary jobs, then opting for M.Tech or a Dual degree is most likely the better option than the latter. It is because their coursework is commonly more integrated.

Even M.Tech does not necessarily guarantee you a future placement as well. But, if you are from a good department and rather belong to a decent subgroup, it is only then that you will obtain a good opportunity.

Now, since MS is completely research-oriented, you will require support and guidance. Therefore, you need to maintain a good rapport with your guide and faculty.

Apart from that, MS in mechanical, applied mechanics and CSE further sees more opportunities than any other subject.
