For admission to old IIMs such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, CAT scores close to 100 percentile or a little less are primarily used. Academic performance above 80% in Xth, XIIth, and Graduation, on the other hand, can be an added advantage for candidates seeking admission.
Candidates are expected to have taken the CAT with a minimum score percentile in order to be considered for admission. After completing higher secondary education, a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification must be obtained for a minimum of three years.
If the candidate has grades or CGPA rather than percentage marks, the equivalence is based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university where the bachelor's degree was obtained. If the desired university does not offer equivalence certification, the equivalence is certified by IIM Bangalore.
It’s a good thing that you have a good academic record. However, there are other factors that play important roles in getting a call from IIM B.
CAT score is one of the most important factors. The score of each section is also taken into consideration.
Here is the CAT cutoff of the year 2020 for IIM Bangalore.
Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Reservation |
General | 80 | 70 | 75 | 85 |
OBC | 75 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
EWS | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
SC | 65 | 60 | 60 | 70 |
ST | 55 | 55 | 55 | 65 |
PWD | 50 | 50 | 50 | 60 |
The other factor that plays the most important role is the Personal Interview. You should prepare well. Many talented students fail to impress the interviewers and not get into the college by a very small margin. The students with work experience get some benefits. Even if your scores in other factors are pretty average, the work experience will balance it out.
