Which is better, UIET (Chd.) or NIT, Jalandhar?

Both UIET (Chd.) and NIT Jalandhar are among the well-known colleges in India for Engineering. NIT Jalandhar is ranked 31 in Engineering by The Week 2020 whereas UIET is ranked 22 by Outlook 2019. NIT Jalandhar is a Government Institute whereas, the University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET) is an Engineering college which is affiliated to Panjab University.

Admission- As far as B.Tech. is concerned both of the colleges accept JEE Mains for admission.

• For UIET the required eligibility for BTech is 75% in 12th PCM from any board.

• Students with 60% in 12th PCM from any board are eligible for BTech at NIT Jalandhar.

• The course fee at UIET is 4.08 lakhs and for NIT Jalandhar the BTech courses cost around 5 lakhs.

Placements-

UIET –

UIET Chandigarh placement rate is quite good but over the last couple of years, it has witnessed a bit of downfall.

• Out of all the engineering branches, CS and IT has the best placement record.

• The major companies to recruit students in the UIET campus are Infosys and TCS.

• The highest package offered was 16 LPAand an average package of 5.62 LPA was offered.

• Over 52 companies visited the campus last year.

NIT Jalandhar-

NIT Jalandhar has a placement cell that coordinates with top companies or organizations for the placement process.

• The highest package offered was 31.12 LPA and an average package of 7.53 LPA was offered.

• The prime recruiters of the college are Adobe, Amazon, and Microsoft.

The college offers placement training for all UG and PG programs.

Discussed below are a few additional information about the two institutes.

UIET-

• It has an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) to foster the growth of entrepreneurship and start-up environment in the students.

• Also, the institute organizes one of the biggest annual cultural festivals of Chandigarh named ‘Goonj’.

• The college has well-equipped labs, and air-conditioned lecture theatres with projectors, boards, and LAN connections.

NIT Jalandhar-

• In NIT Jalandhar, the laboratories and computational facilities are well developed and faculty members are alumni from premier institutions in the country.

• The infrastructure of the college is moderate since most of the buildings are old but some of them are reconstructed and classroom labs are equipped with necessary facilities.

• NITJ also has several scholarship options for deserving candidates. Some of the scholarships are Dr. Pratap Singh Memorial Scholarship and Means Cum Merit Scholarship.

NIT and UIET are both good as a decent Engineering college but due to being a National Institute, NITJ has a bit of an advantage over UIET in terms of reputation as well as placement records. Also, on the other hand, UIET provides a better curriculum facility and college experience. So, now one can choose according to their preferences.
