IIT Guwahati is visited by many reputed Indian and foreign firms both Indian and foreign from both private as well as public sectors. IIT Guwahati has wrapped the first phase of the 2023 placement drive with 919 offers. 1269 students had opted for placements this year. IIT Guwahati's highest international package was recorded at INR 2.4 CPA whereas IIT Guwahati's highest domestic package stood at INR 1.2 CPA. Some of the top recruiters included Larsen & Toubro, Schlumberger, Piramal, TVS R&D, GAIL, etc.

IIT Guwahati's mechanical engineering department placement percentage stood at 74.73%. A few Public sector companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Nuclear Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), etc, have also recruited candidates. Both the private and public sector companies are expected to recruit more candidates.
