Placements for Metallurgical Engineering are good. Although very few students get core placements. Last year the placement average for the branch was 94.5%. The highest and average CTC offered to the students were 28.7 LPA and 8 LPA. A few of the major recruiters for the branch were Mecon (PSU), JSPL, Tata Steel, Vedanta, etc.
The metallurgy department of IIT BHU is the oldest in our country and it has a good track record of producing fine metallurgists. As far as placement is concerned almost 85% of students get placed who register for the placement. Many core companies, as well as non-core companies, present job offers to students. The students can pursue their interests because a majority of companies are open to all branches.
For the passing batch of 2019, 44 students of Metallurgical Engineering out of 47 students who registered for placement got job offers. The average salary was 9.67 LPA. Students were offered jobs in the core, analytics, product management, consulting, and software firms. Among the core firms, past recruiters are Tata Steel, JSW Steel Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., Hindalco Industries, Applied Materials, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, etc. Among the non-core firms, past recruiters are Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, JPMorganChase, OYO, Mastercard, Zilingo, ZS Associates, Novartis, etc.
Every year the number of job offers is increasing in IIT BHU. For the placement year 2019-20, there was an increase of 9.32% in the total number of offers. Since more and more companies are accepting students of all branches, the placement scenario is also improving every year. For the passing batch of 2020, the highest package was 31 LPA and the average package was 10 LPA for B.tech metallurgy students. For IDD Metallurgy, the highest package was 17 LPA and the average package was 14 LPA.
Some students don’t sit for placements because they already have an idea of some startup or they may be preparing for some entrance exams for further higher studies. The students also do not have much problem to acquire internships because the Training and Placement Cell of IIT BHU present ample opportunities for students to acquire paid and unpaid internships due to which some students even land up with Pre Placement Offers. So overall placement is not a problem at IIT BHU if you are good
