Each of them has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. And, instead of choosing the oldest college or the highest package as the criterion, students should conduct a SWOT analysis to see which colleges best align with their long-term goals.
IIM Indore: Because of its age, it is regarded as a premium choice among the student fraternity. However, a closer examination reveals that the batch size of 600+ is a grave trap for students with mediocre backgrounds. With a large batch size, you have little chance of being shortlisted by big brands appearing in their report. However, getting into an older college with a good reputation will work out in the long run if one works hard in the corporate world.
IIM Shillong: Founded in 2008, not long before the new IIMs, it has its own interviewing process rather than the CAP. Both the new IIMs and Shillong are progressing at the same rate. On the other hand, the state of affairs in the world. This is primarily due to logistical constraints; recruiters for IIM grads are typically top-level managers. Each minute counts for top-level executives, and losing time for travel is the last thing they want to do.
IIM Ranchi: One of the country's fastest-growing IIMs, it has seen phenomenal growth in recent years. IIM Ranchi has outperformed Shillong in a short period of time. IIM Ranchi has two flagship courses, PGDM and PGDHRM, and is the only IIM that offers HR-specific courses. With most of the early alumni in higher HR positions, they have an advantage over other colleges in convincing them to bring companies to campus. As a result, their placement is improved, and with smaller batch sizes, everyone has nearly equal opportunity. However, IIM Ranchi has its own constraints, as it is still operating from a temporary campus. IIM Ranchi is the slowest to build its own campus.
IIM Indore is the 6th IIM in their category. It is an autonomous institution ranked 7th for MBA by NIRF 2020. They have a faculty strength of 106 members, most of them being PhD holders. Accenture, Capgemini, HP and IBM are the frequent recruiters that visit the college. They often organize seminars and provide internships to deserving candidates.
IIM Indore might be the better choice compared to IIM Shillong and IIM Ranchi due to the following reasons -
Faculty:
Faculty wise IIM Indore takes the lead as the faculty here are the most experienced when compared to IIM Shillong and IIM Ranchi even though the latter too possess experienced faculty.
Alumni Base:
This plays an important part as it defines a better relationship with the campus and the recruiters that visit regularly. IIM Indore campus is older than the other two campuses and thus scores in this regard. IIM Indore’s alumni are spread across different domains and geographical locations in the corporate world for a long period of time.
Placements:
Placements in IIM Indore are comparable to the top IIMs however the huge batch size means that there will be intense competition among the students to bag niche roles in reputed organizations.
IIM Shillong also has a good placement record better than some new IIMs however it suffers due to its location which is a disadvantage and some top organizations miss out due to this reason.
IIM Ranchi is amongst the fast-growing new IIMs and offers specialized PGDHRM. The placements are best among the new IIMs and the smaller batch size offers better opportunities for the students.
