IIIT Bhubaneswar is a relatively new institute compared to some of the older IIITs in the country. Here are some points that can help you understand how IIIT Bhubaneswar fares in comparison to other IIITs for undergraduate studies:
Pros:
Cons:
Overall, IIIT Bhubaneswar is a good choice for students who are interested in pursuing undergraduate studies in computer science and engineering. While it may have some limitations compared to some of the older IIITs in the country, it is still a relatively new institute that is rapidly growing and improving in terms of its infrastructure, faculty, and curriculum.
Before considering admissions at IIIT Bhubaneshwar, students must keep the following factors in mind.
The institute is not considered an Institute of National Importance. The university was created post the act of legislative assembly of Odisha, whereas, in order to be considered as an INI, the institute has to be created under the act of the parliament.
Facilities & Reputation:
It must be noted that the institute's facilities and reputation cannot be compared to any of the IITs or NITs. In terms of funding, these institutes are much higher and also have comparatively better faculty.
Placements:
If you look at the statistics of other colleges in Bhubaneswar like silicon or CV Raman, they will have a better placement record compared to IIIT Bhubaneshwar. The placement track is not that great.
Fees:
Being a government institute, the fees charged is extremely high. The average tuition fees come to nearly 8 Lakh, excluding the hostel and mess charges. This is quite high for a government college.
Infrastructure:
The infrastructure is not up to the mark and the practical labs are not well maintained. Students are only allowed to visit the lab for 3 hours. The food served in the mess is not good quality and students will be required to eat from outside mostly, which adds on to the cost.
Faculty:
Barring a few of them, most of the faculty members here are not good at teaching at all. It results in a negative student experience.
WiFi Facilities:
The Wi-Fi facilities are not up to the mark either, the speed will completely depend on how close you are to the hotspot. Even the location of the campus is in a remote area.
Brand Value:
If you are looking at the IIIT brand, it will be better to go to IIIT Bangalore or Delhi considering they have their own developed brand. Here, you will not find any such thing.
Choosing Branch:
Be careful while choosing your branch of study too. CSE is comparatively the best branch here, followed by EEE and ETCE. The IT department is also good but not better than CSE.
The institute does not have an alumni network either. So, if you really want to take admissions, prefer CET, Burla, or Silicon who have better faculty members and a great curriculum as well.
