Whose IT is best, IIIT Allahabad, Motilal Nehru NIT (MNNIT), or NIT Surathkal?

All the aforementioned institutes are well known for their IT programs. However, in terms of course structure and academic ambiance, one should give preference to IIIT Allahabad over MNNIT and NITK. This is because the institute mainly focuses on CS education and its curriculum is also CS tailored. However, in terms of placements, IIIT Allahabad and MNNIT are almost at the same level followed by NIT Surathkal.

IIIT Allahabad is the best option among these for IT. It offers better academics, research opportunities, and placements. 120+ recruiting companies visit IIIT Allahabad placements each year. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 21 LPA. Every year more than 90% of students get recruited from the IT branch.

All three institutions provide top IT courses. Let us compare the institutions based on the following factors.

Placement: (Winning Institution - NIT Surathkal)

The placement at NIT Surathkal is great and the best among all the three institutes. Even though the IT department at NIT K is just a decade old.
MNNIT comes next while the placements at IIIT Allahabad are not up to the mark.

Infrastructure: (Winning Institution - NIT Surathkal)

NIT Surathkal has a beautiful campus, a good hostel facility, and classroom infrastructure which IIIT Allahabad lags in.
When it comes to laboratories, IIIT Allahabad is way better than NIT Surathkal and MNNIT. IIIT Allahabad has advanced machines which are also better than the machines at NIT Surathkal and MNNIT.
The research output is also better at IIIT Allahabad. It has research groups and labs, dedicated to research purposes only. It has completed many impressive projects. Robotics research is also done at this institute.
Meanwhile, NIT Surathkal is in real need of a remote login system facility.

Faculty: (Winning Institution - MNNIT)

MNNIT bags first position in this case, NIT Surathkal stands on the second position considering it has a lesser number of IT faculty.

Curriculum:(Winning Institution - NIT Surathkal)

The curriculum at NIT Surathkal is top-notch. The institution keeps revising its curriculum from time-to-time by introducing new industry-relevant courses such as cloud computing and functional programming.
The old courses are either totally removed or are combined with the new ones. NIT Surathkal has merged the theory, practical, and projects into a single course.
Courses such as OS and Software Design which are usually taught in the third year, are taught in the second year itself at NIT Surathkal.
The only drawback as compared to other top institutions is that there is less scope for electives.

It is not apt to call one institute the best among the given three. It is all about choices. You can go to NIT Surathkal if you are a smart and ambitious person. But, if research interests you, IIIT Allahabad and MNNIT are better options.
