Coding is an important part of the IT culture at IIIT-A. But more than 75% of freshers have little to no experience in programming. The programming basics that one learns during the 10th-12th class are all taught in the first semester of the course. During the first year, students are taught the basics- Functions, Pointers, Linked Lists, Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming, etc.

It is your consistent efforts and undying spirit that will allow you to slowly learn and enhance your coding skills. IIIT-A has a wonderful coding culture that will draw you toward coding.

The programming courses during the first year use C. The language is extensive and does take a good amount of time to get a hold of. You may take a few online courses on C language to prepare for this journey. There are numerous online resources available using which you can grasp the basics of this language.

Therefore, you should pursue IT from IIIT-A even if you have no experience in programming.

Yes, opting for IT in IIIT Allahabad even without any prior experience in programming is definitely a good choice. There are several factors to prove that being a programmer at school doesn’t certify one’s capability in programming at the college and career level.

  • The amount of programming taught in school is up to basic levels only. ICSE/ISC or CBSE boards have computer programming in their curriculum but to a very lesser extent.
  • Almost 70% of the students in CS, IT, and ECE are non-programmers before joining the college in most institutes.
  • There are students who have received 100 marks in computer science at the school level in ICSE/ISC and have failed miserably in coding competitions at colleges. On the contrary, there are students with no prior coding experience but have been excellent coders with constant practice.
  • The school-level coding questions are very easy and basic. They cannot be the yardstick to judge one’s coding capabilities.

Therefore, though it is good to have basic programming experience at school, it is not something utterly necessary for taking up CSE/IT.
