As mentioned in the answers before me, IIT Mandi is not a good choice for Masters’. It is located in a remote area with low connectivity. This makes it difficult to reach, and consequently, affects its placements to a great extent.

Other than location, the college lacks a strong alumni network. B.Tech students from new IITs either opt for an MBA, or choose to pursue their M.Tech from an old IIT. IIT Mandi as of now, does not have a very strong reputation in the industry. An 8-12 LPA CTC is not up to the IIT standards, but this is usually the package range offered to B.Techs from IIT Mandi. If B.Techs are struggling to get placed, the situation would obviously be tougher for postgrads.

Choose M.Tech VLSI from IIT Mandi only if you do not have a better option.

IIT Mandi isn’t a good option for pursuing an MS in VLSI. It doesn’t have a strong alumni base, as the institute is new. The location of the campus is remote. The location factor creates constraints for placements. IIT Mandi placements aren’t good for MS VLSI. After completing the course, most students either go for a Ph.D. from old IITs or tier 2 universities abroad.

IIT Mandi is not a good option to pursue an M.Tech. The newer IITs are still not in the same league as the older IITs in terms of building trust with prospective employers. Also, the question is misleading.

Location- The campus is located in Mandi which is more than 200 km from the nearest airport in Chandigarh. Though the location is really beautiful, the lack of an airport close to the campus creates a hindrance in terms of HRs visiting the campus. Thus many top companies give the campus a miss.

Placements- In terms of placements, a B.Tech graduate from IIT Mandi will get a package of INR 8 LPA to INR 12 LPA. For the year 2018-19, the average CTC was recorded as INR 13.5 LPA. Thus you can imagine the salary an M.Tech graduate would be getting from here.

New IIT- The brand of IIT Mandi is not that strong to warrant trust among companies. This will surely improve in due course of time. But at the present, it is difficult to land jobs with salaries anywhere close to old IITs.

Alumni- This is a mere 11-year-old IIT with the M.Tech courses having started much recently. Thus neither there is much of a strong alumni support nor is the brand among the employers about the students of the college high.

Most M.Tech pass-outs of IIM Mandi prefer joining an IIM for MBA or an old IIT for Ph.D. or going abroad for an MS from a tier-2 university. It will take you another 5 years to build a successful career. So, It’s better if you don’t keep IIM Mandi as an option.
