Both IIT Bombay and IIT Bhubaneswar takes admission for M.Tech ME based on GATE scores. You need to score more than the required cutoff in GATE to get a shortlist from these institutes. Seats are allotted through COAP counseling. The required cutoff varies depending on the competition each year.
The prerequisite for MTech is B.Tech or BE in a relevant stream with at least 60% marks.
To take admission in any of the IITs for the M.Tech (ME) course, you first need to appear in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering) Exam and score valid marks to clear the cut off required.
Every IIT follows different procedures to select the candidates for the M.Tech after the candidates are shortlisted by their GATE score. Usually, the process consists of a written test followed by a personal interview.
The Written Test consists of two parts: General Aptitude and Core Subjects. However, the syllabus of the written test depends upon the conducting body. Some IITs consider only core subjects while some include both.
Here is the general syllabus for both parts:
The Written Test usually consists of Multiple Choice Questions, however, in some cases, the test can be descriptive in nature. Students clearing the round of written tests are qualified for the personal interview round. The interview usually revolves around concepts studied at the undergraduate level. Those who clear the interview process are finally shortlisted for admission in the M.Tech programs of IIT.
