An undergraduate degree from IGNOU is acceptable for taking the CAT and getting into an IIM.

An IGNOU degree in no way means that you can not try for the IIMs. But whether an IGNOU degree will lower your chances or not, is solely known upon the interviewers.

Your chances of getting selected largely depend on your overall profile. One of my seniors at IIM Ahmedabad had completed his UG from IGNOU. His overall profile was really impressive, and he also possessed work experience of 2 years as a CA. Thus, he was selected for IIMA.

Make sure to maintain an impressive academic profile, and score well in your CAT exam. If you do so, an IGNOU degree most likely won’t hinder your selection into IIM Ahmedabad.

No, there won’t be any difference in chances. CAT accepts IGNOU degrees. So, you will be eligible to take CAT. If you score above IIM Ahmedabad cut off and have a decent profile, you can get admission.

IIM Ahmedabad 2018-20 batch had a student who graduated from IGNOU. So, doing graduation from IGNOU won’t limit your chances of admission.

Even if one student who studied from IGNOU gets selected in an IIM, it is evident there are no such criteria followed by IIM that states that students from IGNOU will not be selected. If you check their eligibility criteria, you will find out that there is no such thing written on it.

Talking about your chances, it mostly depends upon your overall profile and the interviewers.

One of my friends studied at IIM Ahmedabad and in his batch i.e. the PGP batch of 2018-20 had one student from IGNOU. Apart from pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounts and Finance (BCAF), he had 17 months of work experience as a Chartered Accountant (CA).

Hopefully, it instills confidence in you to go ahead and prepare for the upcoming CAT exam without any preconception.
